ART POSTING

(Subject not going through....Third time's the charm...??)

Art stuff thread starting...NOW!  If you draw stuff, you can post it here! I draw in a sort of anime/manga/toon style, but if you don't, don't let that stop you from posting your stuff!  I would love to see other people's art so post away!  They can be OCs, fan art, or just random stuff.  You can use any media, including digital, like I do!  Just to let you chatterboxers know, I started this thread so we can share our tricks of the trade with each other.  Feel free to: ask questions about how to draw certain things, post techniques, share art, and mostly HAVE FUN!  If you draw your OCs, feel free to share information about them such as their names and that sort of thing.  Same goes for fan art since not all of us know where these characters are from.  You don't have to be polished with your art.  I myself am just a beginner at anime/manga/toon.  I'm not good at hands so if any of my hands looks particularly cruddy, you know why.  I also struggle sometimes with feet so same goes for that.  If any of you know how to draw a particularly good hand or foot, feel free to share your trick for it.

Going to post a picture of my OC, Tuxedo, if this post goes through okay.

I made another one :3 In case you can't read it, the name is Tasha, and will be taking over Mia, my CAPTCHA for now(I'll miss you Mia while ur on vacation!)

Species:  ignus furrure (fire fire in Latin or was it Greek I just forgot)

I feel this drawing I made more realistic and less of a dark ages type of art. This is digital art BTW using an app. :3 Hope you like it!

OHMYGOSH!!!!!!!!!

Bluebird, that is so legitimate! You have real talent! You could get paid to illustrate like, books for that! I'm sure Booksy will love it! You're so good, and you're always improving yourself, getting better and better somehow. I love that drawing so much! I think digital art can just be so cool, especially when it's characters. High five, Bluebird.

I've been drawing for a really long time, but I've never actually been able to get anatomy right in the slightest.  So can someone maybe help me with that?

I was actually thinking about making an anatomy thread. I'm here to help, Lucy, but I'm still learning, too!

I would recommend either checking out an anatomy book from the library or buying one yourself. I have one called 'Classic Human Anatomy in Motion' and although it was kind of expensive, it was worth every dollar. Looking at proportion charts helps, too, and using references, and just practicing drawing people all the time. Now for the tips! (This is going to be really long)

Faces~

To simplify facial proportions, the eyes are usually positioned on a line drawing halfway through the face, the bottom of the nose is on a line halfway between the chin and the eyes, and the bottom of the bottom lip is positioned halfway between the chin and the bottom of the nose. Remember to give people foreheads (I used to make mine super tiny, so...) and to help with hair, draw a hairline or a part. Remember that eyes are positioned in sockets and that cheekbones sometimes stick out when shading realistic faces. Another important thing is that when the jaw opens, the face from the front become longer, and from the side, it swings down a little bit. Think of the jaw like a hinge. Am I make any sense? Probably not.

I think I will post a tutorial at some point. Faces are tricky because there is a lot of variation.

Shoulders/arms~

First of all, you HAVE to remember the trapezius muscle when drawing shoulders. It is a more prominent muscle on men but still visible on women, so look it up if you aren't familiar. The clavicle (AKA collarbone) can stick out along with the scapula (shoulder blades) and are important in moving the shoulders. Depending on how the joints are moving and amount of body fat, they may or may not be as prominent. (The clavicle doesn't just stick out in the front of the body under the neck, if you look at your shoudlers you may see a small bump on top of them, that's the end of the clavicle)

Arms are hard to explain, but elbows usually fall at the waist, wrists slightly under the femur joint, and hands halfway between the waist and knee. Some bones that stick out are the elbow and the ulna (the bone on the outside of your wrist). I think I will post an arm tutorial eventually, too. Also, arms CONNECT to the torso- it's hard to explain, but remember that people have armpits!

Hands~

Where to start. Hands are really hard to draw, but Cockleburr made an awesome tutorial that you can look at. There are three main finger joints and three 'sections' that bend (not including the thumbs' If you are drawing realisic hands, there are tendons and veins sometimes visible on the back of the hand.

Torso/Pelvis~

I draw torsos by making a box for the ribcage and another box for the pelvis and connecting them. Both are very important and sometimes visible, depending on how the body is moving/amount of body fat. People can have a lot of muscles, a lot of fat, no fat, etc., so torsos can be very different. Female torsos are usually shaped more like hourglasses, with wider hips, and male torsos are more triangular with smaller hips. The spine is curved always even when people are just standing still, (I'd recommend looking up a picture of the spine. It's kind of important) and when bending down it can be visible. The 7th vertebrae appears as a small bump on the back of the neck.

Legs~

If you cut the body in half, it would be about at the femur joint/top of the leg, so if you don't count the pelvis then the legs are equal to the rest of the body. Ankle bones are visible on both side- the inside bone (fibula) is higher that the outside bone (tibia). When viewed from the side, the lower leg IS NOT curved inward, the tibia is slightly curved outward, but sometimes legs are stylized this way to look more graceful. There are a lot of muscles connecting at the kneecap and it sticks out pretty far so be sure to include that when drawing legs.

Feet~

The joints of the toes are similar to those of the hands- there are 3 joints in each toe except for the big toes (which is similar to the thumb), but in the toes, you cannot see all three joints on the surface. Tendons can be seen on the top of the foot, like hands. I'll try to do a tutorial on this, too.

Whew! That was long. Expect tutorials, because this is hard to explain in writing.

Thanks SO much for this Bluebird! Very explanatory and helpful. I actually saw an anatomy book in a bookstore a few weeks ago, and almost bought it!

@Storm Windwhisperer:

you draw and write like someone I know. Do you happen to answer to the name of Maloo? (Admins, that is not their actual name. It's a nickname, like Starseeker.) If not, well, you're probably very confused, and I'm sorry. But if you are, WELCOME!
