Pan!Choca and I

Pan!
Choca and I had a discussion, but I want to find out if any of you have any opinions about it. I certainly do.

It was cliche. Really cliche. To put it in Choca's words, "I just don't get why (most of) Disney's new live action films are transforming ALL the villains into misunderstood innocents." Of course, if they make the Wicked Witch a good guy, Malificent a good guy, they're going to make HOOK a protagonist too.

My main opinion is this: they're turning a timeless classic into something stereotypical and overused. My example: TIGER LILY. They changed her character SO MUCH it's scary. Before, she was the damsel in distress, the Princess of the Native Tribes. Now, she's the omnicient, unbeatable Mary Sue, Chieftess of the Native Tribes. You can't screw around a character like that.

Also. What does this prequel explain, really? Tinker Bell? No, it just shows a fairy called Tinker Bell. How did she and Peter develop a bond? Hook's hand? Of course not, he had both hands in that movie, obviously. The ticking crocodile? A croc, maybe, but no tick-tocks. Peter's shadow? No, why would they bother with something petty like that?

My last point is as follows, with credit to Choca. Peter was not raised in an orphanage. He fell out of his pram in Kensington Gardens and was carried to Neverland by the fairies after Tink found him. And he isn't affected at all by his past in either the play of the movie.

The best words I can use are Choca's. A PREQUEL HAS TO BE CONTINUOUS. This just was not continuous, and therefore a major disappointment.

I apologize for the rant. I hope you were able to snore through it. Now tell me your thoughts! (I'm terrible at last sentences. Sorry.)

It was exciting, but . . .

1. In the Peter Pan book, Tiger Lily IS awesome, but yes, she does get captured.

2. Yes, Peter lived with the fairies in Kensington gardens.

3. THEY NEED TO MAKE ANOTHER MOVIE IN ORDER TO EXPLAIN THE REST OF THE QUESTIONS!

Thank you for your time.

I actually thought it was REALLY good, I loved it so much! I decked out in my Peter Pan attire and went to see it and hardly took my eyes off the screen! I'm a MAJOR Peter Pan fanatic, I have been pretty much my whole life. I have read a lot of Peter Pan books, inlcuding the original, as well as several movies. Pan has become one of my favorites!

I actually personally liked the varation of Hook starting out as a friend. I thought he was well portrayed, as well as being forced to labor under Blackbeard.  I thought it was actually pretty cool to see Tiger Lilly in a different sort of role than she generally is portrayed. In the original story, yes, she's a warrior, and I liked that portrayal of her in this movie. I know Peter fell out of his pram, but I liked his defiance in the orphanage, as well as the explanation of how he met the lost boys and where they came from. I especially liked the Jolly Roger coming to London bit. It left room for a sequel which I definitely hope we'll get!

Over all I definitely loved this movie, I thought it was brilliant, an excellent twist on a classic, and very entertaining!

haha yeah

...

I did not read through all of that but now I want to write a story where there is a misunderstood(ish) villian like character for the main and for the antagonist a Mary Sue who thinks what they are doing is right, everybody loves them and that they are perfect.

I mean, sometimes things like that are cliched, but also *I have not seen Pan* but from the trailers it does not seem cliched...

I haven't gotten to see it yet, but I really, really want too.  Peter Pan has always been one of my favorite stories.  Also, I do not believe this is a Disney film.  As for making villains good, I absolutely understand where you're coming from.  Malificent is, in my mind, the evilist of evils, but I also enjoyed the remake of Sleeping Beauty.  So what I tend to do now is think of them as completely different stories.

Oh, and I didn't read all of your comment because I still have to watch the movie.  ;)  I basically just read the first paragraph.
