Battle of the
Chatterbox: Pudding's Place
Battle of the
Battle of the Five Armies
I saw this awhile ago, but I didn't post about it. Ugh! Even though it was better than the other ones, the whole thing with Sauron and ugh! That is not in the book! It seems like they were trying to make it into the next LotR. They failed miserably. I could rant for hours about how good the lotr movies are, but I can also point out 999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999 things I hated about the Hobbit movies.
The guy who plays Thorin was terrible and
SPOILER ALERT*******************************
In the book, neither Thorin, Kili, or Fili dies! The whole part where the "white orc" or whatever it was pretended to die then stabs Thorin in the fiot is probably the only good part at all.
Anyway, your opinion is your opinion.

I haven't seen it yet, but do you think I should? My dad and I were considering renting it. Is it at all worth it?

While I found BotFA to definitely be the weakest Hobbit movie, I did enjoy it. I totally agree that they were trying to match LotR- they tried to make three movies out of one book; and it showed, especially in this movie. It felt very stretched out and kept dragging, especially during the fight scenes (aka most of the movie). They relied too heavily on nostalgia and in particular the one music theme from Lotr, you know, the Shire one, but overall, it was a decent movie and I liked it. Epecially TAURIEL. TAURIEL MY SWEET ELF LADY AND LIGHT OF MY LIFE.
Also... it's been ages since I read it but Kili, Fili, and Thorin do die in the book?

Ugh, Tauriel! She no in book. She=
And the whole thing with Kili?
In Everinne's words: GAG ME WITH A SPOON!!!
UGH!
UGH!
If I hadn't read the book, it would be a decent movie, but ugh!
If Tolkien were alive today, I think he would be disgusted.

NEITHER KILI NOR THORIN DIED? Are you KIDDING me?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? That, I thought, would be the best part! I absolutely did not care at all for Thorin's actor and thought that at least if he could die that would prove he actually has a use for existance. And with Kili I thought they needed the romance with Tauriel because he WAS going to die and they needed to do something soppy with that--because if he died otherwise, the audience would just be like, "which dwarf was that again?" But to let them both live! I am ashamed of Peter Jackson.
Did I really say "gag me with a spoon" on the CB? I know I say it in real life...anyway, thank you for quoting me.
Tolkien is likely rolling in his grave so violently, his corpse is getting good exercise (morbid humor alert.)

Ha, I can see how you wouldn't like the love triangle.
Personally, I think that Tolkien would okay with this part of the adaptation, because I know I am. P. Jackson and Co. added Tauriel in order to create a larger cast, and they choose to make her a woman instead of a man because Tolkien wrote zero women into the book. And I really enjoyed seeing the relationship between Kili and Tauriel onscreen (partly because it's fun to watch them together) but mostly because they are individuals who overcame and looked past the prejudices and history of their respective races. And I found that overcoming weaknesses - fear, greed, prejudice - was a major theme and this fit in quite nicely.
Additionally: while obviously my parents are not an elf and a dwarf, it was nice to see this reflection of my family on screen.
If Tolkien were alive today, I hope that he would see Tauriel and her relationship with Kili as a sign that society has moved forward. Perhaps he might not have liked the movie series as a whole, but I hope he would have appreciated it.

I get what you're saying, but in LotR it is a huge deal that Gimili and Legolas are friendly, and it is the first ime in forever the two races have gotten along. Whatever.
@Everinne
Yes, you did say gag me with a spoon. I forget where, but you did. I remember stuff like that because it is funny.

I'm confused. Fili, Thorin, and Kili all died in the book and the movie. What are you guys talking about? Come on, guys, it was an incredible movie!
(February 2, 2015 - 3:51 pm)
Okay, so they DO die in the film? Now I'm double confused. I know they all died in the book, but I infered from what S.E. said that none of them did in the movie.
And I wouldn't have minded the Legolas/Tauriel/Kili love triangle if there seemed any real heart in it. I felt no emotion or love in any of them to warrent its existence. Most of all Kili.
(February 2, 2015 - 8:36 pm)
They died in the book? It's been forever since I read it so...
SPOILER
Kili, Fili, and Thorin all die in both the book and the movie.
Reality:
I am an idiot. I haven't read it since I was six. Sorry!
(February 5, 2015 - 8:57 pm)
Well, actually, Thorin did die, and in some versions Fili dies, others Kili dies, others they both die, but I don't like any of those, because Fili and Kili are my favorites. Well, Fili was my favorite, after Kili fell in love with that HORRIBLE TERRIBLE ELF WHO DID NOT EXSIST AND SHOULD DJFJGGRKIRJGKGRORGG.<- That's me ranting online. Anyways, she wasn't in the book, and she was played by Evangaline Lily. She played one of the main characters in this show Lost. ALL SHE DID was create love triangles and track people. ALL. SHE. DID. Then there's Legolas.
I'm not even going to start. Then I won't be able to stop.
