I wish I could see it along with Monster University. My family doesn't go to the movie theaters often, even though I love going. So it looks like I'm going to have to wait until they come out on DVD.

I saw it with my younger sister. We both loved it.

I swear Edith is my spirit animal. During Agnes' party, and some other time later, she was jumping around dressed as a ninja, she destroyed that piñata, and she was like "EW!!!"

My theory on: (SPOILERS):

El Macho faked his death 20 years ago, right? So why? Originally, when they first introduced him, I guessed that he was El Macho, retired, but he has a kid now, Antonio, and he runs a restaurant, like Gru with his jam. I thought it was going to be a parallel.

However, that's not how the movie went. So I have a new theory. Twenty years ago, El Macho faked his death because he had met someone he loved, and he obviously can't go around being a villain if he wants to marry her. He fakes his death, gets married, and nine years later, has a kid, Antonio. (I'm assuming Antonio and Margo are the same age.) Something happens to his wife, either a divorce, or maybe she dies (we never meet her, not even at the end, but I was surprised that Antonio didn't appear at the end either), and that prompts his return to villainy.

Just a theory.

So after seeing it on Sunday, here is my review:

It was an EXCELLENT movie. The voice acting, animation, story... it was all, as in the first movie, wonderful. The cartoonish aspects, like the Looney Toons-style violence and the gibberish of the Minions, was hilarious.

Kristen Wiig's work for the voice of Lucy made me think about the voice acting in particular. I've heard her voice before on The Looney Toons Show, where she plays Lola Bunny, a character introduced in the 1996 film Space Jam. In her debut appearance, Lola was very hip and showgirlish, the perfect way to complement the character of Bugs Bunny. On TLTS, she is bubbly and stupid, an annoying recycling of the mildly entertaining (and also bogus) "dumb blonde" stereotype. Here her voice is put to better use, and I recognized it instantly after she said, "Ooh, works pretty good," when tasering Gru.

The action keeps consistent in relation to the first movie, and the villain seems... I don't know. El Macho's a good villain, and makes me think of an evil Speedy Gonzales (a very funny image). But Speedy Gonzales was once taken off the air sometime in the 2000's because they felt it might be racist to Mexican people. I have feelings about that character...

However, the movie really helped define the franchise. With the similar action, weapons, villains, and music (I sung and beatboxed along to the theme during the credits, which I stayed for to watch the Minions' audition), it really got me thinking that the sequels could bring a new staple to the movies, an indefinetely continuing franchise like the James Bond movies.

The said Minion audition at the end of the credits, by the way, is for an upcoming spin-off and prequel movie featuring those little yellow guys in the center of the picture. Minions is going to hit theaters on December 19, 2014 (unless they change the release date sometime between now and then). It will be AWESOME!

Soon as I can, I'm going to draw a picture of the Minions doing something (don't know what yet) and post it here. Keep watch for my drawing, cause it'll be awesome!!!
