Dr. Who?

When my friends talk about the show, I don't really get it, I don't watch the show, but may in the future. Can someone please explain it to me? If they do, they will get a virtual puppy.

My friend is obsessed with Dr. Who and has forced me to watch a ton of episodes. It's not really my cup of tea, but I think this is how it goes...

The Doctor is an alien who can time travel to different times and planets. He's always battling some sort of alien, and he always has a companion, usually a girl, who travels with him in his tartas (his time traveling machine) and helps save the world. They are always in danger, but they always save the world before the aliens take over.

There are probably people out there who can explain it better thatn I can, but that's basically the main part of it. Hope it helped! :)

Doctor Who (more commonly referred to as The Doctor) is the last of a race called time lords, the rest of who perished in a battle against creatures called Daleks. When he dies, he is reincarnated into another body. Right now, we are on the 11th reincarnation. The Doctor has a time/space travel machine called a TARDIS, which is actually broken. The TARDIS has been having issues for a very long time. It is supposed to change shape to match its surroundings, but is stuck in the form of public call box. The current Doctor travels with a girl named Amy Pond and her husband, Rory. He travels around saving the universe. Villians include:

Cybermen

Daleks

The Silence

The Weeping Angels

And others

Personally, my favorite aliens are the weeping angels. They are statues of angels that have their face covered by their hands, making it look like they are weeping.  When you look away from a weeping angel or can't see it anymore, it moves toward you and gains a haggard, sort of vampiric appearance until you look at it again.

Sorry for the length, but I am a big fan of Doctor Who.

Thanks O light of blue, I tried to start watching the first episode of the new series earlier... but Netflix failed 5 times in a row. My lucky day <_<

It's not surprising that you don't understand what they're talking about. Most people will never be able to grasp any of the concepts or understand anything unless they watch the show.

Doctor Who is an amazing show, and I really enjoy watching it. While the Doctor is on his 11th regeneration, he has no companion currently, and will soon be joined by Clara Oswin (I think that's her name), who may be a reincarnation of Oswin Oswald who the Doctor met in the first episode of the new season.

The Weeping Angels are my favorite monsters too.

If you have not already seen it I recomend you watch it.

The first episode I ever saw was in the middle of season 2 or 3, it doesn't really matter where you start, but you'll understand more if you start closer to the begining of the TV series. I haven't seen the original movies yet, and don't plan to anytime soon, though I know I should.

My favorite Doctor was his 10th incarnation (portrayed by David Tennant), but his 11th incarnation (portrayed by Matt Smith) is a close second.

My favorite companion of the Doctor's is Donna Noble, because she was hillarious. Others I liked include Amy Pond, Rory Williams, and Rose Tyler. I was never a fan of Martha, mostly because she was a rebound companion from Rose, and didn't have much of a chance as being very widely liked.

Currently the Doctor is married to River Song/Melody Pond who is the daughter of Amy Pond and Rory Williams. Though in the past he was in love with Rose Tyler, who was sent to another dimension and now lives with the meta-crisis Doctor, who is called John Smith (the Doctor's main alias). Since the meta-crisis Doctor comitted genaside by allegedly killing off all the Daleks (they come back), he is not allowed back in the original Doctor's reality, so he stays with Rose.

The Doctor's daughter, Jenny, who is essentially a clone created from a gene sample stolen at gunpoint, is alive and on her second regeneration (as far as we know), but was only ever in one episode. (I wish they'd bring her back!)

As you can obviously tell I am a big fan of Doctor Who, and know a lot about it.

Not only that but I understand more than most people which makes it more enjoyable.

Don't get me wrong the Doctor says things that no one can understand, and I don't get that, but I do understand some of the key principles which makes the show more entertaining.

Is it just me, or did that make me sound incredibly smart?

Meta-crisis Doctor?

Basically the Daleks took over the world, moved the Earth to the Medusa Cascade. The Doctor's hand was cut off right after he regenerated, he died again and threw all his regeneration energy into the hand, and so when Donna touched the hand in the TARDIS while Earth was in the Medusa Cascade she became part Doctor, the Doctor-Donna. Then from that hand another Doctor was generated that was part time lord part human. So Rose goes to live with the meta-crisis Doctor in the alternate dimension.

Like I said, if you don't watch the show you won't get it.

I mean along with that, there's also the whole bees disappearing thing, and Bad Wolf, and Sarah Jane Smith, and prophecy and Dalek Khan, it's just easier to watch the episode.

Spoilers....

I understand completely Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle and how it relates to the Weeping Angels. Donna and Rose and David Tennant and all of them are the best part of Doctor Who. Admin what do you think of Doctor Who?
