Part One:Feryl watched as the green, glittering liquid sloshed around in the bottle. It was Deadlier than Liquid Wildfire, one of alchemy's most dangerous substances, and purer than the elixir of life. Yet someone decided to abandon it in the desert. One week of experimenting, and she still couldn't categorize it. Frustrated, she let out her breath in one great gust, and shoved the stray strands of her wavy brown hair out of her clear-green eyes. "Hey,you!" Feryl looked up to see a tired looking woman framed in the doorway, a baby balanced on her hip, another child clasped firmly in her hand. "When's that show of yours starting? I've been waiting for ages." Feryl blinked. The Cabinet of curiosities. She'd completely forgotten. Forcing a smile, and molding her voice into a cheerful pitch, she stood and walked the family out, bracing herself for another day filled with people and false smiles.
By the end of three shows, scores of excited people, all clambering to touch her very delicate inventions, and several loud tantrums, Feryl was completely sick of it. "Out.Out!Show is over. Bye! Go do something else with your life-" After she managed to shoo the last remnants of the persistent crowd, she stalked back to her trailer and slammed the door. No later than an hour had passed when a firm knock came from outside. Feryl groaned. "I'm Not Here!" She yelled towards the door. "Come back in another fifty years and I'll be happy to see you, seeing that I'll probably have kicked the bucket by then!" A faint rustling greeted her words, then,"In the name of the Authority, and the Brazen Enquiry Guild, we command that Feryl DuEll opens her door!" She rolled her eyes before slowly dragging the door open. A stately woman with a pinched face swept in, flanked by two guards. Like a queen surveying the work of a servant, she slowly looked around the small room. Feryl instantly decided that though all people were bothersome, this woman would be particularly annoying. The woman finally turned back towards her, her face pinched eeven further than before. "I am Cornelia Hornshaw, president of the Inquiry Guild. I have been informed that you recently found a vial of great importance in the desert. If you would be so kind as to hand it over..." Feryl leaned back and crossed her arms. "Why would I do that?" Cornelia let out a huff of impatience. "Lately there have been attacks made by a griffin, as you should know. Many lives were bought, and property destroyed. This would never have occurred if we had had the serum. Now there has been word that a certain animal, a badger, who will wreak havoc just as the griffin did. And this time, if you refuse to hand the serum over, all the casualties will be on your hands." So she's blackmailing me, is she? Well two can play this game. Feryl kept her face Ina mask of indifference. "And?" She said. Cornelia fisted her hands before taking a deep breath and uncurling her fingers. "I know that you have met some animals, some beasts, soon after you found that serum. Not only will they keep on bothering you, until you hand it over. And as we all know, animals do not have the capacity to negotiate like I do. They will soon resort to violence." And I suppose you won't. But it was true, Feryl thought. She had been interrogated more than once. Cornelia leaned in, her fur collar brushing against Feryl's arm. "And, as a sign of our alliance, I will share with you what the serum is really capable of." Feryl stiffened. Cornelia's face iced over, a sharp edge appearing in her smooth voice."But first, you hand over the vial."

~Wiseowl
I remember something my mother said when she handed me my necklace. "Use your voice wisely. Don't try to charm people with it. If the firebird comes, you have the weapon inside you. Remember this." And now, leaning against the side of my cage, I do!

Protect the Warhorn, destroy the human empire, and make our bloodline great once more. The last words of her mother echoed in her head, as Neminem silently slipped through the trees, the great leaves rustling secrets known only by those of the earth. A spasm of injustice swelled in her heart. How could her mother leave her daughter, her only child, such a massive burden? Every second of her life, Neminem had lived, breathed, her mother's dying wish. She had risen to the first level of stealth in the first year as a spy, had moved into the dorms of B.I.G., and created her clockwork hounds to protect both her and the warhorn. And now a long lost cousin insists on meeting me in these woods, a cousin who would take the power of howl away from me. An angry crack resounded through the silence as she lost control of her movement, and her foot landed on a stick. Neminem froze, trembling from a sudden rush of emotion. Slowly, her eyes opened, the brilliant red flames swirling around her iris. She was sick of everything. Sick of being kept away from the wilderness, sick of her mother's demands, and the burden of the Power tied to her waist. As she stood, frozen, amid the fading rays of last light, all the bottled emotions of the past years came raging out, bursting out of her In a triumphant rush of andrenaline, like a song it thrummed through her, tugging at her senses, and before she knew it, she was running, running like she was the wind, like she was so light, she could fly.
She wasn't sure how long she ran, but it was dusk by the time she stopped, Umbra and Stella a silent presence beside her.
Deep inside the forest Neminem waited, her hair curling around her head like smoke in the evening breeze. Like a silent vigil she stood in the clearing, waiting, and watching, for the fateful reunion.
