Kyngdom Survival Guide

The dark-haired woman

Chatterbox: KYNGDOM™ RP Board

The dark-haired woman

The dark-haired woman stepped out of the black vehicle, her boots clicking on the paved road. The sound of the door slamming shut could hardly be heard above the pounding rain and constant thunder.

The base loomed in front of her, even more menacing against the stormy sky. She looked up at it, then at the guards in front of it. Her own personal guards, a shadow and a highly-trained elven warrior named Lyn Sterjne, stood beside her.

"State your name," One of the guards growled--literally. They were some kind of canine anthro, or maybe SOCs experiment, though it was hard to be certain exactly what they were in the darkness.

"Admiral Tayemno Vidtinok," The woman said, in a sharp, commanding voice. She showed the guards her Song of War bird pin. They examined it for a moment, then stepped aside and let her enter the gates.

Tayemno glanced up towards the very peak of the mountain, where it was. The thing Catastrophe had worked so hard to complete, and the thing that was soon going to give them unimaginable power.

If only they could figure out how to open the Lunee-forsaken thing.

Tayemno wasn't an expert on the device, as she had been more interested in the end result than the path needed to get there. She knew it was a gateway of some kind, a strange portal to place of darkness. Catastrophe believed that opening this would grant them access to some kind of power, or something along those lines.

Everything had been going so well. They'd even managed to get a person out of it, an odd old man. But he'd fled, and they hadn't been able to find him. There had also been the incident with the Homo Tenebris and the soldier going rogue, and killing General Jantu with the help of a theif named Skylar.

They also hadn't been found.

Tayemno pushed away these thoughts, and stepped inside the facility. Tonight, she was going to watch the attempt to open the gateway herself.

Karthicha~

I knock on the door to Admiral Vitidinok(hope I spelled that right)'s room. A muffled voice says, "Enter."

"Admiral," I growl as I come in. Not hostilely, of course, but my patience is thin with not much to do. I give a slight nod. "I am growing restless. There is not much work to be found here for someone of my abilities."

"And what, pray tell, are those abilities that you speak of?" Vitidinok is at her desk, looking at something, and doesn't look at me.

I hiss quietly. "Assassination. Fighting. Strategy. My mind is sharp and my claws are strong, but I have no place with those who are engineering.... whatever they are doing."

Vitidinok glances briefly at me. "Despite your apparent inability to find work here, there are jobs for a person like you. However, I believe there is a matter that you could assist me with."

My eyes gleam. I'm ready for anything she sends my way.

~

Just trying to get Karthicha back into the action a little bit, and going off of what Sybill said. Hopefully I did Vitidinok okay.

Vidtinok~~

Vidtinok led Karthicha down to the labs, where Doctor Sano stood by the entrance, waiting nervously. He pushed up his glasses with a shaky hand.

“So how is this brainwashing supposed to work?” Vidtinok growled at him. Sano swallowed nervously before responding.

“All of the niyantrana fragments we use come from the same ore vein, which means they all have a sort of connection with each other,” Sano said. A guard opened the gates protecting the laboratory and led them through.

“We’ve created a machine that will allow us to access that connection. While this link is ‘opened’, we can alter and adjust the properties of any of the other connected niyantrana. We can also link with a very specific niyantrana fragment if we also have something to ‘guide’ the link. For example, a lock of hair of the Tenebris we want to control. Luckily, we were able to find a sample of Eniyan’s DNA that can be used similarly,” Sano continued. They were inside the labs now, walking down the pure white halls.

“Then, we can override the Tenebris’s free-will by essentially giving their brain a new code--not at all different from what viruses do to spread. As long as we keep the link open, the Tenebris will follow this new code. As soon as the link is closed, the Tenebris will resume acting normally.” They were walking through the main room now. Several scientists looked up at them, curious.

“So what will the Tenebris experience?” Vidtinok asked.

“It won’t be like possession, where they’re watching everything unfold and are helpless to stop. No, this is much more controlling--they’ll want to do these things, they’ll think that what’s going on is their own thoughts. When we enter the instructions, I imagine the eyes will probably change color because of the sudden burst of dark energy. Most likely, they’ll turn pure red or purple,” Sano explained. “When the link closes, they’ll remember what happened in bits and pieces, and their memory of the event will be hazy. It’s quite similar to say, a werewolf transformation, but completely uncontrollable. When we input the commands, we can make them do things they would already know how to do--for example, annihilate any visible Resistance members, or take a person with this exact description captive--that sort of thing.”

“Is there anything that could stop it?” Vidtinok asked.

“Well, I’m sure if the Tenebris is knocked unconscious, or experiences extreme pain, the link would close. After a link closes, we’ll have to wait about six or seven hours to open it again. Just to prevent the niyantrana from, uh, exploding,” Sano said. “The only things that could completely destroy the link and make it impossible for us to brainwash the Tenebris would be if they were to trade their Tenebrism--their dark magic abilities and such--for something like werewolfism or vampirism. But I can’t possibly imagine Eniyan willingly doing that, or even figuring out that’s an option.”

The group was on an elevator, which lowered slowly, before emitting a quiet ding and opening. The three stepped into an ill-lit basement, where a black gemstone surrounded by a glowing purple cloud sat in an odd looking contraption.

There was a desk in front of it, with several computer monitors and wires resting on top. Sano typed something into one of the computers. The purple cloud vanished, replaced by a red one, which spun rapidly, creating a breeze.

Sano typed more and there was a flash of light, causing Vidtinok to block her face and close her eye. When she could see again, the gemstone was hovering in the air, no cloud around it.

“The link is open,” Sano said. “What would you like to do?”

Karthicha~

I watch, interested, as Sano types on his keyboard. Temporairily blinded by the flash of light, I blink repeatedly to clear my vision.

"The link is open. What would you like to do?" Sano asks Vidtinok.

The Admiral thinks for less than a minute. "Perhaps you could have him capture one or two of the Resistance members he travels with."

"Certainly," Sano says, and turns back to his keyboard. However, his fingers hover over the keys uncertainly, and he turns back to Vidtinok. "Ah.... Which ones, Admiral?" he asks.

Vidtinok blinks, and glances at me. "Don't look at me," I protest. "I don't know who he's with."

The woman sighs, almost inaudibly, and tells Sano, "Any two of them. I don't care which."

"Admiral, what does any of this have to do with me?" I ask, allowing the faintest hint of exasperation to creep into my voice.

"I want you to go to them," says Vidtinok. "The tenebris--a tenebris, at least--has been spotted in Spiaggia. If it's him, his allies will be there. Approach them however possible and help Eniyan capture the Resistance members."

My eyes gleam. The only thing that could make this venture better is if I found my sister Nyx and finished what I started. I turn to go, but Vidtinok calls after me.

"One last thing, Karthicha. If this.... mind control, fails...."

I turn back to her, teeth bared in excitement.

"Kill him."

~~

Is this okay?? I figured it would be a good way to get Karthicha into some action, although he won't find Nyx in the Grasplands. But if I got anything wrong about the plan then it's fiiiine

Tayemno Vidtinok~~

"GET THAT LINK REOPENED NOW, OR I'LL TEAR YOUR HEAD OFF!" Vidtinok's first slammed into the desk. Sano cowered before her wrath, curling into the chair he sat on.

"Admiral, I would advise against--"

"I don't CARE! I want that Tenebris under MY control, Sano!"

"The niyantrana--it could be destroyed--" But the scientist's protests were falling on deaf ears. Vidtinok would not listen to reason, not when she was this close to fixing the problem. Even so, she forced herself to take a deep breath. When she'd regained her composure, she glared down upon the scientist.

"Sano, reopen the link. I don't care if it is risky, or dangerous." She waited for Sano to sit back up. "It's been four hours. That's close enough to the six hour time limit, don't you think?"

"Ma'am, two hours is a much longer--"

"Sano. Get the link open." She drew her pistol and aimed it at his head. "Or else."

He began to type on his keyboard, any previous doubts erased.
