Catastrophe’s Side

Catastrophe’s Side

I could tell you that Catastrophe isn’t all that bad. But that wouldn’t be true. I could also say he genuinely cares about me. You'd be a fool to believe that. Another statement I could make is that he is easy to sympathize with. No one would ever believe that.

So let me tell you the facts. Catastrophe is a cunning, sly, and powerful character. He is a very good actor and loves intimidating people. He’s very good at manipulation, especially if he knows what you want and love. He knew what I wanted and loved... You may think that if you found some way to draw out his power, that he would be defenseless. Think again. Although he may not seem like the bookish type, he has studied every method of fighting there is. And he’s good at fighting too. With strategy and smarts by his side, he could easily take over the world- if not for the powers. This balance of nature, this equalness of weights is all that prevents him from taking over. He knows they are watching him. He knows that whether they are united or not, they all agree at the point where he cannot cross. He knows if he makes even one mistake, they will not hesitate to combine their forces and bring him down. So, he masks his steps. He hides his abilities. He threatens me to stay in disguise. And in the meantime, he waits. Waits for the powers to show a weakness that he can use to his advantage. Waits for every resistance member to fall, one by one. Waits until his powers are are at their peak. Then he will attack. Then he will take over.

To be honest, I’m not sure how I feel about this. He has told me multiple times, fire burning in his eyes, “Karina, once I rule the world, you will have nothing to worry about. No henchmen chasing you for the reward, no savage animals ready to tear you to pieces, nothing blocking your way at all.” He’ll pause for a moment, and in the darkness of our camp, I’ll know he’s smirking. “You can draw to your content, girl.” My blood will boil the slightest bit. I hate how he teases me about my drawings.

Hello everyone, Karina here! You’ll definitely hear more from me later, I just need to work on my backstory a bit! Hope you enjoy this thread! Anyone associated with Catastrophe is welcome to RP on here. If at anytime my history of Kyngdom isn’t right or I’m being too controlling/op, let me know! Thanks Kyngdomers! Happy writing!

"You will fight until I tell you to stop." Catastrophe said. "If you continue to fight after I call the finish and disobey the rules, there will be consequences. Ace is allowed a short dagger and you, 99, are allowed no weapons. You may not use anything in this hall except for your body to fight this man. Understood?"
I nod.
"You may begin."
I turn my focus to Ace.
He is crouched in a fighting stance, bare handed. I looked at the pockets on his plain black pants, determining that he probably isn't revealing the knife until he needs it in order to catch me unawares.
Don't get within stabbing distance.
Ace inches forward, slowly circling around me. I play into the ploy, circling around as well as if I am oblivious to his advancing.
He knows not to underestimate you.
All of a sudden Ace leaps forward, throwing a quick punch at my head. I didn't expect him to be so fast, but I dodge easily, then quickly jump as he uses his momentum to try and kick my legs out from under me.
I back up, trying to draw him out and go on the offensive. He follows, but I can tell by his body language that he is wary. I had fought humans before, but I still needed to be careful.
He comes at me again, but I dodge and start moving in a circle around him, forcing him to turn around.
We've switched places now, his back to Catastrophe and mine to the opposite wall.
This time I go on the offensive, running at him and punching his diaphragm. I have to jump slightly, using all my momentum to drive my fist into his throat. He stumbles back a step, but grabs my wrist and twists it behind my back.
I take a deep breath, sagging in his grip and making it seem like I'm defeated. Then I quickly drive my elbow back as hard as I can, straight into the spot under his ribs.
He grunts and loses his grip on my wrist. I twist around, shifting my grip and twisting his arm out straight, swinging my hand down in a wedge shape on his elbow.
He throws a punch with his opposite hand as I stumble forward from my momentum, this time catching me in the jaw. My teeth clack together, but I use the movement to kick at his face.
My foot connects and I attack him again, throwing punches at the exposed spots on his body. Though I am smaller than him, my fists hurt him, and I don't stop the onslaught.
Don't forget the knife.
I draw back slightly, making sure that if he were to draw the knife I would have enough time to act.
We were now around two feet apart, and he was panting slightly. I wasn't, as my lungs were efficient enough to prevent oxygen loss.
He punches me again, this time an uppercut. I grab his fist and use his motion to vault over his head, landing on his back. It was a move that I had practiced countless times, ing raining it into my muscle memory.
Ace grunts in surprise, but he hardly has time to register what's happening before I wrap my arms around his neck and force it backwards, pressing both of my fists into his Adam's apple. He reaches his hands up to pull me off, but I release one of my fists and begin scratching at his face.
Ace frantically tries to get my hands away from his face, forgetting that I was choking him.
He falls to his knees and rolls backwards onto his back, trying to crush me. I grit my teeth and tense up, not loosing my hold.
I can hear Ace gasping for breath, his wheezes echoing off the walls of the throne room. He feebly tries to reach for his pocket, trying to get out the knife. His hand falls limp to his side as his body is deprived of oxygen.
"Stop."
Catastrophe's voice isn't loud, but I hear it clearly. I loose my hold and try to roll out from under Ace. He wheezes some more, his breath rattling in his throat. I shove, lifting him up slightly and rolling out from under him.
His face is bleeding from where I scratched him, and he has ugly red marks on his neck from where I tried to strangle him.
I feel like my right lower rib is broken, but not because I feel pain. It feels different, but nothing hurts.
I face Catastrophe and try to read his expression. He is looking at Ace with slight concern, but as Ace starts to recuperate he shifts his gaze to me. He looks surprised and shrewd, as if he is trying to figure me out.
"I did not expect that," he says.
When I make no response he continues.
"I did not think that it would be so easy for you to defeat him. No regular human can do what you did, not to mention a thirteen-year-old."
He shifts his position on the throne, resting his head on one fist.
"You could be very valuable."
I still make no response. I can feel the advisors' gazes on me, but I pay them hardly any attention. My main focus is on the king.
"The SOCS children couldn't do that. Yes, they probably could defeat Yaxon, but only with the help of a weapon. They have gone through pain training of course, but they have not been genetically modified to not feel pain. You could be positioned as a spy, or even a head general. I assume you are immune to mind reading or at least know how to protect your thoughts?"
He continues on before I have a chance to speak, musing more to himself than anything.
"I could have you infiltrate the Resistance and collect useful information. But I would have to see what else you can do before I make any decisions. Physical strength is no indicator."
Then he claps his hands twice.
"Furrows! Take her back to her room."
The female guard walks up to me and reaches for my hand, then thinks twice and gestures for me to follow her. On her face is a look of barely disguised fear and awe, perhaps mixed with a bit of disgust.
Without looking at Catastrophe I follow her out, not even glancing at Ace on the floor.
