Kyngdom Survival Guide

It's a chill

Chatterbox: KYNGDOM™ RP Board

It's a chill

It's a chill day, the only signs of the oncoming spring are the pockets of melting snow and some scattered flowers, the first courageous envoys of warm weather. Northwest Kyngdom is caught in an expectant hush. The stroke of freezing air, the sparkling water dripping from the branches, add to the feeling of impatience. Something in me feels restless also, maybe because I'm so close to my former home. Or maybe because after a year of preparing, vengeance is coming, just like the spring. I sound if out silently. Revenge. A sweetly harsh word. And in this case, it will shake all Kyngdom.

I suddenly stop. The SOCS base should be close. I slip off my pack and unzip it. Not a lot when you're planning to take over a high security lab, but almost everything I need is in the chunky dull blue card that I pull out. With a click of a button a small screen lights up on one side. The map that appears reports that the blinking dot representing me is about 20 feet from the guard line. I look up. The woods is quiet except for birdsong. Totally normal, and as peaceful as I've seen it. Checking the screen every few seconds, I start to stroll along the invisible fence. The silent forest is lethargic, in a few minutes of walking I'm sleepy enough to almost miss it. A small area where the glowing red streak simply blanks out before continuing again a few feet later.                                               The back door.

My heart jumps frantically as the card buzzes loudly, a second after I've stepped through the gap in SOCS's defenses. But all that shows up on the chip's blue surface is a request for an identification code. Of course they wouldn't leave it totally open. I type in the password I acquired a few days ago, and with a quick prayer, submit it. A green flash and it goes dark. I'm free.

I pull on the required white office coat just before I enter the building, a large spreading complex. Inside, a few people are calmly moving through the various hallways, but no one notices another employee. Quickly I find my way to the computer sector. When this was your home for three years, you don't forget it easily. I slide in front of a machine with a sigh. And it's not just from the memories. it takes more than half an hour to download all of SOCS information onto various hardware pieces, and when I can't get through the higher security measures with my ID, I pull out the one I snagged from a passing staff member. Still took a bit of hacking though. I leave the room with a smile I can't hide, fairly confident in success. I relay the information to my account in Silicate City then march towards the main control room. Now for the tricky part.

The smooth metal door of the current headquarters slide open when I step in front of them and everyone inside turns to stare at me.

"What are you doing here?" A tall grim-looking man demands, "Who gave you permission into this sector?"

His caral shaped badge glitters. The new, or should I say old, headmaster. I raise the gun I picked up from the "protection collection". It's a compound powering brand designed to instantly stun and I have it set on wide range. The whole room could be taken out if I had to.

"What do you want" A woman to the right of the former leader, she glares at me with impressive lack of fear, but her hands are clenched tight.

"I want you all to move to the left, but still spread out." The gun remains pointed as they slowly take a few steps to the side.

"Now as you've probably guessed, I'm taking over this organization. You have the option of being escorted to the holding cages quietly and without resistance, or dying."

I look at the 4 guards gripping their guns.

"You may leave if you wish, but if you continue to work at thsi job your pay will be increased. It'll be a lot more than what you get from them." I glance quickly at the scientists, then release my satchel, kicking it into the center of the room.

"Your first paycheck is in there. Unfortunately, you will have to drop your guns first. Any unncecessary actions will result in everyone being stunned instantly."

There's silence for a moment, then after a second of hesitation, a younger one slowly places his weapon on the floor, looks nervously at me, and walks over to the limp bag. His eyes widen as he pulls our handfuls of currency. Two other guards swiftly follow him. The last scowls at me.

"Traitors." He mutters, and suddenly reaches for the alarm. He collapses before he can take two steps. The room looks with apprehension at the pistol in my left hand.

"Would anyone else like to make a comment?" Dead silence.

"Then if you three could please escort them out, you will be free to leave immediately after."  The former guards hurry to grab the money and direct the shocked Board of Directors to the prison. As soon as they're gone I fall into a chair, taking huge breaths of relief.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In a couple hours the base is mine. I have allies in the staff, and money persuades those still unsure. The final step:
"Captain, please inform everyone that all animal or human experiments will be terminated. A new initiative is commencing with the change of leadership. Further orders and details will be relayed tomorrow. Also, the title Society of Concerned Scientist should not be used anymore. This is the reeastablished Kyngdom Reformation Company" I push off the connection. Rigga's death will not go unavenged. After all, taking care of family is what big sisters are for.
Yes!! I won't be bringing Rigga back, but I will be posting a few flashbacks if that's alright.
Flashback 1:
I wait impatiently for all my calls to load. Here I am, sitting at my desk ten minutes before a board meeting with thousands of unread emails and a couple hundred missed phone calls. I'm going to have to do something about my secretary...
Suddenly one call loads, and the voice that comes through relaxes me. My older sister. Clare.
"Hello, younger sister," she says with a calm tone. "Are you coming home for Christmas? It is rather droll, but father, Aunt Tilda, our brothers and our cousins will be there, along with Uncle. They're expecting us to come. Do not leave me alone with them, please. They bore me so much. Anyway, I hope all is going well at SOCS and the Academy. Personally, I think it should be renamed, but that doesn't matter sister dear. Make sure to get enough sleep, and call me back when you can. Love you Alissa."
I'm about to pick up the phone to call her when my secretary knocks on my door.
"Headmistress," she says. "It's time for the meeting."
I sigh and head towards the door.
And...END flashback.
I think that Rigga's character made it so her sister Clare was the only person she ever loved.
Thanks so much! And I'm totally going with your idea. I've wanted to use this character for so long, and this seems an okay time to bring back SOCS (sorry, KRC)
So the SOCS is based in Northwest Kyngdom... And under new management. This is interesting. Will the KRC be allying with Catastrophe? Oh, oh, hold on, I have an idea. *ducks out of room* *comes back wearing reporter costume*
So. Hello, Kyngdomers. You're reading Kyngdom News. My name is Viola?, and today we're here with Clare S. and whoever else is on this thread. Miss Clare, others, first of all, thank you so much for having us. Now, would you mind answering a few questions? I'll rattle them off for you.
1. What are the Company's new goals?
2. How exactly does the Company intend to achieve these goals?
3. What stance is the Company taking in Kyngdom's ongoing power struggle?
4. How do the employees of the Company feel about the recent big changes?
5. Will the Academy remain open, and if so, will its curriculum change?
6. Mexi says hubc. What do you suppose this means?
Ugh! It’s boring being on the sidelines, so I’m going to make another sister, the youngest out of the three. There hasn’t been a pack of three siblings so far.
But FIRST! A flashback...
~
I slam the papers on my secretary’s desk. She jumps.
“What in the name of all good things are these?” I practically spit.
“Th-they’re Moral Notices from Bulwark the Animals Coalition...BAC-“
“Yes, I know what BAC is!” I shout. “What are their papers doing on my desk?!”
“Th-they told me...well, I mean, they told me...t-to-“
“SPIT IT OUT!”
“They told me to give the Notices to you,” she says frantically.
“Burn them,” I reply. “And I want a meeting with the leader. Keep a sniper trained on them the entire time.”
I briskly walk away, leaving her stunned.
I really need to do something about that secretary.
~
END FLASHBACK! I know it was short, but it’ll connect to other things.
Sophie~
I silently walk up to the SOCS building, loosening my scarf a bit. I take a deep breath and walk inside, nodding at the guard. She glares at me.
“Who are you?”
“Sophie Rigga,” I reply. “Sister to former Headmistress Rigga and KRC President Clare Rigga.”
“You’re a bit...young,” she replies.
Are you kidding me?! Ugh, I need to talk to Clare about this woman.
“I’m old enough to drive,” I reply, with a fake smile.
She shrugs and asks for an ID, and I let out a huff before giving it to her. She looks almost fearful, like I’ll pull out a gun. I’m not like my sisters though. Five billion security checks later, I’m finally in the lobby. I look up at the large and bustling white building, facing tons of glass balconies where I can see people moving about on the different floors. A woman like Clare-and Alissa-would want the powerful top office. Those power hungry maniacs. Sometimes I wonder if I’m related to them.
I walk to the nearest elevator where workers, visitors, officials, and clients struggle to get in. Idiots. Only so many can get on at a time.
I silently slip into the elevator, and a few questioning glances, cramped spaces, and stairs later, I finally reach the top hallway with Clare’s office on the other end. This time, I walk through the hallway with offices on all sides. They have glass walls, and these workers look more sophisticated while they work. I mean, they are working directly with Clare, and she wouldn’t want idiots working for her.
I tap my knuckle on her glass door, and she nods without looking up. I quietly open the large door, step inside, and close it before walking to the chair that is in front of her desk. Without saying a word, I sit down.
“Hello Sophie,” she says, once again without looking up from her papers.
“How did you know it was me?” I ask, although my mind suspects the answer.
She looks up with an unimpressed face. “No one walks as lightly as you do. If I can’t hear someone walking that loud, then it’s probably Sophie.”
I scoff and she smiles before going back to writing, her left hand looping the pen in a beautiful font across the paper. We all have good penmanship, and it’s surprising since some think lefties have bad handwriting.
“So KRC, huh?” I ask.
I bite my lip. I cannot start conversations well. At all.
She sighs and looks up again. “Yes. Do you need something?”
I shake my head quietly while tapping the arm of my chair. She goes back to writing when the door bursts open. I look around and she barely looks up.
“Ma’am,” a woman says, probably Clare’s secretary.
“What?!” Clare huffs, putting her pen down and looking up.
“The Communications office downstairs is wondering when you are going to accept the interview from-“
“In a second!” Clare snaps. “Can’t you see I’m busy?”
“But ma’am-“
“Leave!” Clare interrupts.
The secretary lowers her head and quietly closes the door behind her.
I look back at Clare and raise an eyebrow. “Temper much?”
Clare sighs again. “I’m busy.”
“I can see that,” I mutter.
“Can you?” she retorts. “Look, I loved Alissa, but I’m not here to reminis-“
“Neither am I,” I interrupt. “I’m having trouble. I’m thinking about joining the Resistance.”
I guess it would be cliche to announce that everything is going as planned. But it is the truth. The Resistance might have walked away from the supposed ruins of SOCS, satistfied that a dangerous rival had been destroyed once and for all. It was a sweet lie, but one that couldn't last. A widely supported and protected megacompany will not vanish, even when her leader destroys part of the east wing. It was a smart move for the organization overall, enabling them to stealthily work in the shadows without having to join a side. Yet it still gives me a headache trying to understand why Alissa did it.
She was forced. It has to be the answer.
My younger sister was ruthlessly compelled into leadership, recruited from a young age, trained to become a monster. The real evil of SOCS is the people who turned Alissa Stellar into Rigga.
Luckily the bad never makes it out with impunity.
1st element of retaliaton: destroy the Society of Concerned Scientists. Already underway.
The bewildered staff have already released all the non-dangerous "experiments". I might have realized how much change has to happen when the wide-eyed secretary protested.
"But miss, they're all dangerous!"
Ridiculous. But just to fit certain requirements, they were released somewhere relatively far away. Lets see what the Resistance will say about that.
The Academy is next. After one tour around I feel sick. People never given a real chance at life. The only constant in their existence is death, probably soon, probably painful. My orders are brief. Classes-shut down. Arena-revoked permanently. I close my eyes, blocking out my expensively fitted office. The conflicting emotions that raged through me a few minutes ago now have neutralized each other, leaving a void of blankness.
If this is what Alissa went through, no wonder she acted mad. Probably went crazy the first day. After a few seconds I realize that partial insanity would explain a lot of her actions and cut off the thought. She was misguided, not corrupt, and not crazy. Anyway, back to the current problem. The secretary accepts my note to return all the newest recruits to their families with barely a shock. Over the last days she's gotten used to radical orders.
I realize I'm smiling and can't stop. I'm changing people's lives with a word. I'm the head of a wealthy, powerful army. Power. There's a never ending pull to it, one I'm trapped in hopelessly.
I don't care at all.
Wait, wait, wait, wait. I’m the one who created the Academy, I don’t want it gone. That was a bit controlling. And my plan for Sophie is to get her involved with the Academy somehow, because she’ll feel that she needs to prove her leadership to her sister somehow.
Sorry, I didn't mean to totally get rid of it. I was planning for Clare to slowly become corrupted, so maybe she could bring back the Academy, for now she's just pausing it? Sorry again, I think Sophie's a great character.
Please tell me if it's a bit OP, or not going along with the plot line.
