Labyrinth Tunnels Code4

Back to the business at hand: We enter "K-N-O-T" into the combination lock. (That was so fast! Thank you for the lightning-quick solution, Beatrice, Hyrule, and Arra.) The gate cracks open! The strange lights seem to get a little brighter. 

The old badger wastes no time crossing another letter off the bark. It now reads: 

-J-M-E-M-I-A-K-Z-G-E-F-H-P-Q-X-S-B-Y-W-R-C-T-O-N-U-V-D-L-  

Just past the gate is a dim, narrow hallway that leads to a crumbling staircase. This is definitely the work of a very advanced mason, maybe a master tunnel-building animal, or even a human.

At the foot of the staircase is a solid green door braced with steel—and, of course, another coded message and another combination lock. This time it looks like we need an eight letter solution.  

We're going to camp here for the night. Who and Little Crow just flew back out of the tunnels to fetch food and water for the whole party, as well as some of those little green stones the badger likes so much. Those two seem to be bonding. It's a funny sight, such a small white bird alongside such a huge white owl. Anyway, let me know if anyone has food or drink requests, because we have no idea how far these tunnels reach. 

NOTES:

-The two most consistent sounds down here seem to be the old badger's mumbles ("Seventeen will leave, nine left over") and distant rumblings that I'm assuming are coming from B.I.G.'s digging machines. Maybe they should be called D.I.G.? Hahaha.

-Growing up in a Sprocketville bunker, I'm used to being underground. But my ears feel a little funny in here. We must be deep.

-Silverpaw snores. 

-The map we found just inside the entrance still isn't making much sense to me. Anyone have ideas?
