Labyrinth Tunnels Code3

Labyrinth Tunnels Code3

Labyrinth Tunnels Code3

If you're just joining us, start at the first labyrinth post

We entered "B-U-R-R-O-W" into the combination lock, and the gate swung right open. So much for all its enchantments! A little farther down the corridor, we came across another gate, this one with some strange lights behind it. There's yet another combination lock with the same patterns on it—I'm guessing this whole system was built by the same person or people.

Written on the stone wall behind the gate, we see this English text. Luckily, we have a human to help us read it:

Can anyone help with this riddle? I'm guessing it's the key to the combination lock.

Also, the old badger is at it again. He just crossed another letter off the bark. It now reads:

-J-M-E-M-I-A-K-Z-G-E-F-H-P-Q-X-S-B-Y-W-R-C-T-O-N-U-V-D-L-

We set up camp outside the gate. In the middle of the night, I wake up and hear Who snoring and the old badger mumbling, "Seventeen will leave, nine left over." I wish they would hush! We need our rest. Who knows how long we'll be down here.

Try rope?

Also, the badger crossed off Q after you entered Quakes, and B after you entered Burrow. Just a thought.

No! Duh, try knot.

Good observation.

And the riddle reads:

A sailors' best friend is a strong bowline loop an overhand bends holds a rappeller's weight whether climbing a mountain or sailing a sloop make certain your ____ is quite appropriate.

It's talking about knots, mostly. You'll probably need to use them to climb/scale something up ahead.

And for the code, try "knot".

I agree, "knot" seems to fit

I'm kind of wondering about the lights...

I'm sitting against a wall, trying to fall asleep. But then I realise...

This wasn't created by animals. Or at least I don't think it was.... but who human would build this? And what's in here?

I sigh. I can't sleep, so I scooch over to a group of animals in a corner. They're whispering. "Knots?" I listen in. One of them recognizes me. "Icy..." He sighs. "You need your rest." "But you guys are up!" I protest. "Yeah, but you're a kid."'

My face burns in embarrassment. "Fine," I mutter.

Seventeen will leave, nine left over.

Think animals.

What does it mean?

Let me help you.

The badger has crossed off two letters. The number of letters remaing is twenty six. Seventeen plus nine is twenty six.

Beware, freinds. Beware of the next path.

Eeeh!

I'm here...Finally... *pants* I brought my crossbow, and my dye for tunnel marker-but I found out more clues.

What we have seen suggests that there are multiple reasons for the gates & codes.

#1. As self defense

#2. So only the most worthy may enter

#3. A series of challenges

I believe that the riddles may be giving hints to a series of challenges.

#1: The first challenge has something to do with the earth, lava, or earthquakes. Maybe pathfinding through quakey or magmaous terrain.

#2: The second challenge has something to do with a refreshment.... I don't know. Maybe there's a clue to the second challenge at B&B.

#3: Some type of rope climbing, or something to do with water.

Of course, I might be wrong. Oh! And I noticed the map on the wall in the first area- "Must find map of tunnels." THAT EXPLAINS A LOT! I sketched a general outline, but I brought THIS!!! I open my pack to reveal A LOT of coiled rope. Ancient Greek tale? Minotaur, anyone? The string used to navigate? Right?

I continue to talk and babble about strategies untill nobody listens anymore.

Ah, brilliant, I didn't thinking about marking the tunnel! That'll help Little Crow and Who find their way out and back with the provisions.

I love your ideas, Eliyana! Keep 'em coming.

Exactly how many doors are there?

The map of tunnels might contain that information, if we can figure out how to read it.

While the group huddles together, discussing the riddle, I wander off, heading towards the gate. I stop in front of it and gaze through the bars, trying to see through the darkness that drapes the passages beyond. The strange lights softly shine with a warm, radiating glow, but barely illuminate the dark outline of the tunnel ahead. "What could be down there?" I think. "What secret is hiding in these forsaken passages?" I stand there a moment before slowly turning away, heading back towards the whispering group. I hope they can find an answer soon.
