Modern fiction round

Modern fiction round robin anyone?

Not futuristic, modern.  It doesn't matter what genre, but it seems that there are too many Renaissance-ish stories floating around.  Not to say that every story on here is Renaissance fantasy, of course.

So anyone want to participate?  I don't really have any plot ideas : (

But I'd like to make it more structured-i.e. one character per person and working out an outline beforehand so it doesn't get too crazy.

And if no-one likes this I will bend to the opinion of the populace and do a Renaissance fantasy story...though unlikely lol.

Andy says yivx.

By the way, is Wolfgirl67 (or Coyotegirl, I forget) still around here?

I don't think I've seen anything from Wolfgirl for several weeks. Maybe she went offline for Lent like RD?

Yay!  Thank you, Analesia!

"Wait!  What prophecy?"  I felt dizzy and ridiculous.  I was about a foot tall in clothes I wouldn't be seen dead in and my best friend, who turned out to be a fairy, is telling me about things that properly belong in fantasy tales.  This was way out of control.

"There's no time!" exclaimed Cole.  The twenty or so fairies gathered around us in the dark alleyway outside of the hospital. A stooped old fairy with a long blue-green beard took out a tiny megaphone and started yelling through it hoarsly.  The crowd gathered around him as I tried to listen to what he was saying.

"Listen up, everyone, we need to get back to the Caverns!  I say, all ye listen up, ye-"  His voice faded away and he shook his fist angrily at the megaphone.  Fairies in twos and threes around me were opening their wings and taking off into the air.  I looked at Cole in panic.

"I can't fly!  I don't have wings!"

He grinned, though his eyes looked anxious.  "Of course not, silly.  Your powers aren't strong enough yet."

"Then what am I gonna do?"  I cried.

In answer Cole turned around and let out an ear splitting whistle.  There was a humming sound and an enormous shadow flew above us.  I sucked in my breath and nervously backed away.  A huge bird--no.  It had a long snake tail and was as big as a horse.  A bright golden dragon dropped out of the sky in front of Cole, his sharp teeth bared in a grin.

Hello?  Another dead thread? Cry

I hope this is not a dead thread, yet. Since I don't have much time nowadays (lots of stuff going on), so I made a list of RPs and RRs to post on. This thread is on my list. Like I said, I don't have much time, but I'll be sure to post on here soon, okay?

Again, it's not dead.  I'll post when Princess P's comment shows up.

"Cole," I warn, "I don't do heights."

"Neither did I," he tells me.

Humans come running towards us.  I jump on the dragon.  "GO," I say.  The dragon takes off.  "I'm gonna name you," I tell it, "Fudge, for no apparent reason."

"Its name is Goldie," Cole tells me.

"Not anymore," I reply.  Fudge and I swoop through the clouds.  He surges upward.  Finally, he lands in the  clouds.  I can see a village of fairies in front of me.

This seemed like such an awesome story, I couldn't resist jumping in! :)

As we landed softly in front of the fairy village, Fudge tapped the clouds with its tail, signaling me to get off. They seemed so wispy and insubstantial, not strong enough to hold me.
"Cole, are you sure about this?" I asked nervously.
"Don't worry, you'll be fine. We have to hurry!" he added, beckoning me on. I shrugged and stepped onto a cloud, finding it springy but solid under my feet. Cole was already running, so I rushed to catch up to him.
"Cole, what is all this about?" I demanded. "The police come after me, I wake up in a hospital, you turn out to be a fairy and climb through my hospital window, I shrink and fly on a dragon, there's something about a prophecy, now we're headed to a fairy village in the clouds, and I'm still wearing this stupid, ridiculous flower dress!" I stopped to catch my breath.
"Estelle, you're a fairy. You have to get over that. Don't worry, everything will make sense once we get to the village. They'll explain everything to you."
"Who will explain everything to me?" I couldn't stand all this mysteriousness! It must have been a dream. I was probably still sleeping on the ratty sofa, imagining the whole thing. Alex would wake me up soon, screaming something about work and food and everything else he screams about. I sighed, but then came to a realization.
If this was just a dream, why not enjoy it?
A little smile played around my face as I thought of what an awesome story I could write about this. As we reached the village, I tried to remember every little detail so I could describe it later. Small cottages were scattered about, painted in bright colors with little swirly designs on the walls. Windows sparkled in the bright sunshine, and little fairy children chased each other around in the fluffy clouds. There were a few adults walking too, but many of them were flying overhead  with their gossamer wings fluttering. The whole scene was so sugar-coated and happy that it almost made me gag. As we passed them, I realized that they were purposely avoiding looking at us. The smiles on their faces looked a little fake. Suddenly, the old fairy with the blue-green beard stopped.
"You may resume your everyday activities," he said through the megaphone, making my ears ring. "This girl does not pose a threat to our society." There came a sigh of relief from all the fairies, and they stopped chasing and smiling and flying. The bright colors on the cottages flickered and faded, to be replaced with duller tones like brown, white, and light blue. Most of the fairies went back inside, but a few stayed and crowded around the group.
"Is that Estelle?" they asked, "the one in the prophecy?" I stepped back, wary of all the fairies.
"Cole, what just happened?" I asked.
"They thought you were dangerous, so they went all fantasy-land to make sure no one would believe you if you told them." He laughed. "It's ridiculous every time."
"All right now, everyone back!" shouted the one with the megaphone. "We need to get her to the palace!" The fairies backed away to let us through as I was shoved forward by the fairies behind me.
"Am I finally going to learn about this prophecy thing?" I asked.
"Yup, just a bit longer. Everything will make sense at the palace." I rolled my eyes. Typical fairy-tale behavior!

@Wolfgirl:  Hi!  I know, I follow the same pattern of posting a lot (normally in summer) and then not much.

And thank you Analesia and Alexandra; this thread is ALIVE!

I will continue the story next week (I'm going away soon).
