Okay, I think everyone who wanted a date now has one, right? If not, you can post and we'll just say that this post happens after yours, okay? And from Elizabeth M.'s post, I figured that the dance must be "tonight", so that's how I made it in this post. It doesn't really matter to me, though.
//Eli//
I sighed and plopped down on Kataira's bed. She was working on her homework at her desk. It was neat as a pin, as usual. My desk was a mess, but I didn't really mind. The way I look at it, I'm going to have to take it all out again anyway, so I didn't see any point in keeping it neat.
"Hi, Eli," said Kataira.
"Hey, Kataira," I responded. "What are you working on?"
"Math homework. Do you have all your homework done?" Kataira asked.
"No, not all of it. I still have to write a report for Language Arts class," I replied.
"At least we don't have school today. You'll have a whole Saturday to work on it," Kataira said.
"Tell me again, why aren't there any classes today?" I asked Kataira as I absent-mindedly twisted one of my braids. According to Kataira, I do that often, though I don't even notice it.
"The back to school dance is tonight, remember? Everyone is busy getting their dresses ready, putting on make-up, getting last minute dates," Kataira made a face, erased her latest work, and started a new paragraph.
"Oh, yeah. I had forgotten about that. I was wondering where everyone was. That's why I came in here. I get bored easily, you know," I told her.
"You could work on your report, Eli. When is it due?" Kataira asked.
"Monday," I replied. "And you haven't answered my question yet. Where is everyone?"
"I think they all went out for hot chocolate. They were all in here earlier trying on dresses, but they left a few minutes ago. Where were you all this time?" Kataira scribbled some more in her notebook.
"With Takilia. We were drinking tea and talking. She's really nice," I said.
"Yeah, I know. I guess that's why we've been hanging out with her a lot," replied Kataira. Just then, there was a knock at the door. Kataira and I looked at each other and shrugged our shoulders. "Come in!" called Kataira. The door opened and a dark skinned boy walked in. His curled black hair hung just above his shoulders, and his penetrating gaze dominated the room.
"Hey, ummm, have you seen a girl named Alamea around here?" he said, as his dark eyes searched the room.
"She left about half an hour ago to get something to eat at the cafeteria," I replied, looking at him suspiciously.
"Oh, thanks," he said and shuffled out the door. I stood up and closed the door behind him.
"What was that all about?" asked Kataira. I shrugged my shoulders.
"He's probably one of those guys who don't have a date yet and are dashing around looking for any available girl to ask," I answered. "Have you seen him before?"
"Yeah, I've seen him around. I think his name's Leif," Kataira replied. "Anyways, Eli, I think you had better get to work on that report. You know how long it takes you to write everything out."
"I guess you're right, Kataira, but it is kind of lonely in there," I said, as I turned to go.
"Well, why don't you just bring all your stuff over into here, and you can do your work on my bed. Will that work for you?" Kataira suggested.
"Gee, thanks, Kataira. That would be nice. Okay, I'll bring everything over. See you in a few!" I said as I went out the door.
"See you in a few!" said Kataira as the turned back to her work.

Oregano, we're on at the same time!!
Oops, sorry. Wrong person. :-) Alamea is Elizabeth M.'s character.
(May 17, 2011 - 5:24 pm)
Lily and Banier are going together. They aren't dating cause he likes Eli and Lily likes Tahir, but he is going to the dance with Freya who is Lily's best friend. And Alamea is going with Dirk. And Princess P, there are only three years starting at ten. After that they go to another school if they want to continue their education. Usually abroad.
//Lily//
The dance was tonight; Friday night. We had gone to the cafeteria to get some food before we started getting ready. We ate quickly and left to get back to our rooms. As we were walking back to our rooms Dirk came up to Alamea. "Hey could you come over here for a sec?" "Sure." She walked a few yards away with him and when she came back she was smiling. "Ready to go back?" I asked. "Yes," she replied, still smiling. (Just to let you know he didn't just ask her then. He had asked her awhile back.) We hurried back to our rooms.
When we reached them we all went into room 14. Everybody from rooms 14 and 16 was there. I saw Callen glaring at Jasmine as we came in. I didn't really understand that since I had seen them become close friends over the past week. I walked over to Callen and asked her quietly "What's wrong?" She told me everything that had happened over the past day or so with Darius and her. After she had finished I said, "How do all you people manage this? I have gone to every dance with a different boy and this never happened to me. All well, I'll help this sort out after tonight. Just don't go having a horrible time because of this. So you don't have a dress right? So you can choose one of mine."
I showed her the six I had already laid out. One was orange like the sunset. It was knee-length with a rouched waist and rosettes covering the straps. The next one was sky blue and floor length made out of chiffon with a patterned lining that showed faintly through the chiffon. (I won't spend time describing the others till someone chooses it.) "So which one of these would you like?" She looked at the six. "It's so hard to decide."
Everyone in the room saw her indecision and came to suggest which one. "Well, I don't think you should wear something floor-length. You're petite so I think it would make you look too small. Three are knee-length so I think you should pick from those," I suggest. Callen went over to the lilac one made of a satin with a pick-up skirt. It had elbow-length sleeves that came down to equal length with the skirt. "I like this one." "I agree. It suits you. Why don't you try it on?" I said.
She took the dress into the closet and changed into it. She looked beautiful in the dress. It suited her brown hair and blue [or were they green?] eyes. "That's definitely the one," said Alamea. I go over to Callen. "It will need a few adjustments, but they won't take too long." Callen changed out of the dress and I went to work on it. I had already picked my dress and my shoes. The others went around picking their dresses from the wide variety.
It took me about an hour to fix the dress. "Callen, try this on for me will you?" "Sure." She took the dress and tried it on. This time it fit perfectly. "Good, now you're all ready. Do you have shoes?" "Yes. They're white." I looked at my dress: it was royal blue with specks of white in the silk. It was floor length and sleevlesswith a v neckline and see-through fabric up to the neck.
I went to take a shower since we had another four hours.
That's all I am able to write at the moment. Sorry if it isn't what you had in mind.
(May 17, 2011 - 8:14 pm)
Thanks for including me! Sorry, I haven't posted. About the MatoDYfi. We don't need to even have it... I kind of like Princess's idea better anyway...
Alamea—
Almost everyone was dressed in their dresses. I took mine outand went into the closet to change. I came out in a long sleeveless lavenderdress. A dark purple scarf thingy went over one arm and wrapped around me. Thedress glittered like a million crystals. My shoes were also purple with littlestraps and small heels. “Wow! You look stunning!” Lily exclaimed. She alsolooked absoloutly beautiful in her royal blue gown. I went over to the smallmirror in the corner and unbraided my braid. I hardly ever wore my hair open, but I’d decided to today. I brushed my curls tenderly and pined my hair overone shoulder with a white clip. I put on a few touches of gloss and mascara andI was done. We all smiled at each other, each in a beautiful dress. I looked atthe clock. 6:55pm. It was time. We walked out together. One could already hearthe music blazing from the cafeteria. When we walked in it looked changed. Astage was set where a small orchestra was playing music and red, green and bluebanners were strewn around. The lights were dimmed and a big crystal ball wasthe only object that truly lit up the room. Pairs were already there. Some atthe drink table, others on the dancing floor. Lily was the first to be taken.Banier looked at her and smiled. Then he bowed and kissed her hand like a truegentleman. They walked off and started to swirl on the dance floor. I lookedaround for Dirk but he was no where to be seen. “He’s coming.” I reassuredmyself quietly as I walked over to the side of the hall.

Ooh, my dress sounds cool :D Though instead of white shoes, how 'bout those Greek like sandals that come a little bit up to your ankles. I like those, though I don't usually wear them because they hurt my feet.
//Callen//
I changed into my dress and shoved on the sandals, staying as far away from Jasmine as possible. Everyone else's dresses looked adorable on them, and mine fit perfectly. We did each other's make up and hair and soon the dance was about to start. I stood up and walked into 16 to grab my purse, then returned on the main floor so we could walk there together. I stepped carefully in my new shoes and soon we were at the ball room. First years walked around acting like they knew what they were doing, but they really didn't. Second years were pretty much doing the same, though all in the middle of the room and dancing really hard and awkwardly. The third years knew what to expect, and yes, we were kind of bored. But, it was one of our last dances so we participated anyways. I scanned the crowd for Derek, and saw him by the food table. He was wearing a green button up shirt and black pants. His hair was swept back and he looked really cute. The rest of us found their dates and we chatted. "So, cool dance, right?" He asked. "Yeah, pretty cool. Love the decorations." "Yeah, those are really cool. I'm gonna go get some punch, would you like any?" "Sure, love some." He walked back to the drinks when I saw him. Darius. Looking adorable as ever, with a black button up with a white shirt underneath. He wore black jeans and his worn away shoes. He walked in, spotted Jaz, his face lit up, then saw me, and looked at his feet. I did a little wave, then Derek came back. "Thanks." He handed me the glass and we chatted about ostriches, archery, (I was blushing during that topic), basketball, and whether or not we would be picked for MatoDyfi. I laughed a lot, he was really funny. I might actually have a good time here, despite the awkwardness. Then, the dreaded time arrived. The Slow Dance. *dun dun dun* He grabbed my hand and we walked out. I was sure that I was going to step on his feet, I was such a horrible dancer. He put my hands on his shoulders and his hands on my waste. I put my head on his chest, and I think I might have cried a bit. But I don't think I did. The song stopped, and I looked up at his eyes. He smiled, and we kissed again. When I stepped back I saw Darius looking at me, then Jasmine came up and gestured that they sit on the couches in the corner of the room. He followed her. The rest of the dance went pretty well, everyone seemed to have a good time, and the speech the Headmistress gave after wasn't too horrible.
(May 17, 2011 - 11:26 pm)
I don't know how these people are dancing, so I'll skim over that.
Artemis--
I finally selected a light pink chiffon gown with cap sleeves, a scoop neck, and tiny lavender frills, floor-length, and very slimming. Lily zipped my zipper up the back. I went back to Room 16 where I had left all my hair things and makeup. I brushed my teeth and hair. I tried a few hairstyles and finally just brushed it again and added a pink headband. Then I looked at my face. My pimples showed too much, but I didn't put on makeup. I left off the lip gloss, too [[now my own character is bleeding into Artemis's!!!!]] and replaced my glasses with contacts. I pulled out my one-inch high heels and put them on, even though I hated them. I had twisted my ankle in them once, but they were the only pair I had that wasn't sneakers.
I was ready.
There was a knock on the door. I opened it. It was Lief. We went downstairs together.
We got to the gym-turned-dance floor [[if someone already said it was something other than the gym, please correct that]] five minutes into the dance. We moved out onto the floor.
We danced most of the dances. The rest of the time we sat by the sidelines. We didn't hold hands. We were a last-minute date. We weren't a thing yet.
We danced the last dance. Then we kissed. No one looked at either of us. No one was jealous of either of us, like Jas and Jacob and Darius and Elizabeth. It felt so good.
Everyone hung around the gym afterward for half an hour, chatting and drinking fruit punch. Then I went back to the room, the first one there. I had seen Banier dancing clumsily with Lily, her grace offsetting his big feet. Neither one looked happy. I had seen Callen dacing with Derek, and Darius looking insanely jealous. I had seen Darius and Jasmine dancing, and Jacob and Elizabeth dancing, and all four trying to look as if they were having a good time, and not really succeeding. It had been a very normal dance. In fact, it had been pretty good.
I changed into a nightgown and left the pink and lavender dress on a hanger in Room 14. Then the door burst open and everyone came in, talking.
[[And, because I may not have time later today and the story will have moved on...]]
Mary-Lee--
I'm walking slowly from dance class to my room. The dance is tonight. My first school dance. No one has asked me. I didn't expect them to. I'm new. Βut even as I think the thought, someone taps me on the shoulder.
"What? Oh, hi. Sam, right?" He's in my dance class.
"Hi... uh, Mary-Lee. Um, do you have a date yet for tonight?"
"No," I say.
"Would you go with me?"
"Sure!" I say.
"Okay, thanks," he says, and hurries off, pink in the face.
I go and change temporarily out of my dance outfit and get dinner in the cafeteria, then go back to my room. My mom made sure to pack me two dresses for these dances. One is light blue and knee-length, with a pleated skirt. Ugh. The other is dark blue and floor length, with pink rickrack trim. The fabric drapes nicely. I put it on. My other roommates are laughing and joking. Kristen sits apart. She doesn't have a date. She says she'll be staying behind.
I put on my ballet slippers, which match the trim on the dress. My roommate Jill braids the side of my hair, then colis the whole thing into a bun. It looks nice.
"Are you sure you don't want to come?" I ask Kristen.
She nods. She looks sad though.
"You don't need a date to come," I say. "You can still chat with everyone and have some punch. Maybe someone else there will ask you."
She finally gives in. We cheer and drop a light green spaghetti strap dress over her shoulders. She puts on a brown short sleeved cotton shrug and steps into matching brown flats.
"Okay," she says. "I'm ready."
Our dates call for us at seven. Lo and behold! They've convinced a boy named Mike to join them, and he asks Kristen! A happy party of eight, we go to the dance.
I'm a bit clumsier with modern dance, but Sam still seems impressed. I look for Jas. There she is, dancing with... wait, she isn't dancing with Jacob! It seemed like they were all ready to make up in time for the dance, but I guess they didn't.
Sam and I dance for a while, then we go and find our friends, then we dance again. Afterward I remember my manners and thank him. He goes pinker than before and mumbles something, then dashes off. He's pretty nice. I'm not in love with him, though.
That dance was a lot of fun! I flop onto my bunk. Even after the lights are turned off, everyone sits up discussing the evening in whispers. It's fun here!
Ok, that's plenty for now!

Alamea—
I walked out of the dance, alone. Dirk had promised me that he had something special to show. Well, how was he going to show me anything if he wasn’t there? Loving pairs galloped out some to the pavilion, others said goodnight and went to their rooms.
I grabbed my little clutch, tucked a strand of hair behind my ear and sighed a long, unhappy sigh.
I walked into room fourteen. Kataira stood chatting with Lily, who was unzippering her dress. Jasmine looked distressed and dreamy at the same time.
“Alamea! Oh wasn’t that just the most extravagant thing! I felt like a princess!” Kataira exclaimed.
I smiled, “It was, wasn’t it?”
“And how was Dirk?” Lily inquired, pulling on a nightgown.
I turned red and embarrassed but answered, “Oh, it was great. He danced beautifully and his outfit. It made me feel like a book character.”
I lied, I know. But I didn’t want to say anything else. The others noticed my tenseness and kept chattering.
“Nolan and I, he was such a gentleman!” Kataira cried.
“Banier was quite different than usual though he kept eyeing Eli,” Lily said.
“I kind of feel that Eli might have feelings for him, too. But she’s even tricking me.” Kataira took off her pearl earrings.
I slowly undressed and turned toward Jasmine, “And you?”
“It was great. Amazing,” she said absentmindedly. I left it at that and kept changing and listening to Lily and Kataira’s chatter, putting in a word here and there.
Maybe he came late… I thought to myself.
I hadn’t seen Dirk but he didn’t mean to. I would talk with him about it at the next fencing.
(May 18, 2011 - 1:13 pm)
Please don't post.
(May 18, 2011 - 3:31 pm)
Why not?
(May 18, 2011 - 6:11 pm)
Lizzy-What do you mean by "please don't post"? I hope that doesn't mean that you don't want me to post now...
Kat-Yay, you're back!!! I can't see your post right now, but I can see that you did indeed post! We missed you!!!!!
Elizabeth M.-If you don't mind my corrections...Kataira and Eli were not at the dance. They were in their rooms (because of their Great Aunt Ethel's rules) during the dance. Also, Eli doesn't really love/really like Banier at all, she's just good friends with him, not a "couple" at all. Just wanted to make sure that you knew that...
(May 18, 2011 - 4:21 pm)
Okay I am posting now. I didn't want anyone to post because I wanted to post but couldn't at the moment. And sorry if this sounds sort of controling but I don't think that GenkuSuh would let boys dress sloppily or kiss girls. It's jut that GenkuSuh is supposed to be a strict school. And Elizabeth M, do you just want to drop the MatoDyfi? That would be fine with me. I just want to know if I should put it in my posts or not. We could just say that GenkuSuh's headmaster didn't want the school to compete.
//Lily//
Tonight had been wonderful. I had ruled the dance floor. I think I danced with every boy at the dance. I had done tangos, cha chas, waltzes, I had even gotten to do a Persian solo dance. (They are usually solo.) It had been wonderful. I just didn't see how people could want to do that awful slow dance. It wasn't even a dance. Ah well, they could do whatever they wished.
Kateira and I chatted away by the window in our nightgowns. I told her about the dance and she told me what she had been doing while we were at the dance. I had some chocolates that my family had sent and I had gotten today. We ate them as we chatted. We got the morning off the next day because the dance went so late, so I didn't worry about staying up too late.
"So Lily, why do you have so many dresses?" Kateira asked. "Well I wanted four of them made because I wanted to have a different dress for each dance and my mother loves to design clothes, that's her profession, and my aunt loves to sew, so they made them with an extra; not sure why there is an extra, I suppose that they just wanted to make one more. There is also one for graduation. I think I wil miss GenkuSuh." "I am not sure if I will miss it. My aunt will probably send me to that school in Elyni." I looked around and saw that Alamea was just sitting on her bed looking forlorn. Jasmine was actually looking really happy. I didn't understand why, but I didn't bother myself to much about it and went back to chatting with Kateira.
Sorry I haven't really been posting as Darius. I will try to later.
(May 18, 2011 - 8:25 pm)
Wow, now I want to meet Lily's mom and aunt!!!
Uhhh. Beside the point. Uhmm...
Right! Artemis! Says:
Callen and Eli were talking about the dance. Neither one was too happy about it. What a mixup. Hardly anyone got the date they wanted. Although I wasn't too sure about Jasmine. Or, for that matter, about Callen and Eli. There's more romance this year than ever. It's crazy! We're only thirteen and fourteen! If this is what it's always like for Genku-Suh seniors, I can't imagine what it must be like at the boarding school in Elyni. I've heard Jasmine's sister is there. Mary-Lee says she writes to her sister - oh yeah, her name was Amari - writes to Amari all the time. I could ask her. If there's more romance there than here, I might ask my parents if I can go somewhere else. Though most of my friends are planning to go there, and I'd hate to just leave them. And if there is more romance, they'll need all the moral support they can get. I wouldn't desert my friends. I'll just
"So, Artemis," Aika interrupts my thoughts, "What was Liiiiiiiiiiiiieeeeef like?" She draws out the name to tease me.
"He's nice," I say. "Who was your date?"
"Oh, some guy called Alex," she says. "I didn't like him, he stepped on my feet a lot. Then he wold leap off them and try to dance three feet away from me. He's usually nice though."
I nod. "Well, I think I'll get dressed and go down for breakfast," I say. "I don't know about you, but boy am I hungry."
"We'll join you soon!" says Callen.
"I'm still writing about the dance in my journal, but I'll come after that," says Aika.
"I'll come with you!" says Karanah.
We grab our school uniforms and change in our closets, then brush our teeth in the bathroom. Discussing the various ups and downs of each of the dresses, we clatter into the cafeteria, which is strangely quiet. We're the first ones there! We giggle. It's already open, and the servers are horsing around behind the counter, out of pure boredom. We get fruit salad and oatmeal and sit down by a window. I pick up an earring from the floor. "Whose do you suppose this is?" I ask.
"Someone careless," says Karanah. "She's probably missing it right now and frantically turning her room upside down for it. Here, I'll out it on the windowsill. The cafeteria is probably the first place she's check after her room."
"Sure is a funny earring," I say, looking at it. "It's got hair in it. One dark curl, another dark curl. Probably her boyfriend's hair." I giggle. "Almost looks familiar."
Suddenly Karanah says, "Wait. Look at the hair. Pretend it's a foot long." She hold it up to her head. I stopped laughing.
"Lief's hair, no doubt," I said. "A former girlfriend. Trying to get his attention back. Wow, there's even more romance here than I thought. She'll come after me next."
"Second thought," says Karanah. "Let's not put it on this windowsill. Let's put it on a different one. Then she won't connect you with it. She wouldn't suspect you might have been after it. Then, she's just found it." She grabs the earring and runs with it to another sill, where she leaves it. I can't see it from my seat. We keep eating. Pretty soon, some students start to trickle in.
"Betcha the bathrooms are absolutely clogged right now with students brushing their teeth," says Karanah.
I agree, and watch the incoming students for any of our friends. Someone sits at the booth where Karanah put the earring; he doesn't even seem to notice the dark curl. He is joined by a girl, another girl, another boy. No one sees it. I point it out. "You'd think they'd notice."
"Just goes to show, it doesn't mean anything to them. I wouldn't like to think how much jewelry is currently in the school lost and found. I'm missing a bracelet myself, I might go there. Maybe if the earring isn't gone then, I'll put it there."
"Sounds good," I say. "Hey, look. Just to prove the point, she lost the other one right here under my chair."
"Whoa. You were looking under your chair?"
"No, I just about stepped on it."
Karanah giggles and takes the earring. It's the exact duplicate of the other one. It's very well crafted. The ends of the hair are nowhere to be found.
"Well," she says. "Three options. One, we put it on the same sill. Two, we put it on a different sill. Three, we take both to the lost and found. Oh, four options; you could keep it, but that would be dishonest."
"Yeah," I say, "I'd rather wait until he really seems to like me, and until he offers he two of his curls, to wear them. Anyway, I'd have to make the earrings myself; I can only use nickel-free hooks."
Karanah nods. "When those guys in the far booth finish up, I'll get the other earring, and run them to the lost and found."
We finish our breakfast. The other four in the far boot finally finish theirs and Karanah takes the second earring and runs over, then leaves the cafeteria.
I sit there another few minutes, drinking my orange juice, then Lief comes up.
"Mind if I sit?"
--To be continued-------!
