Ema and Megan's story!
'Ello, Megan! Okay, welcome to our thread? I suppose I could say that... First, we have to kind of pick out what we want our genre to be, since you prefer Greek mythology and I like sci-fi. I was thinking we could sort of squash them together, but I don't know how we'd do that. :) You can input your opinion. Please. With cherries on top. :)
I suppose we can't do character names or plots until we figure out the genre...
Ookay-doodle, you can tell me about what you want to do, I feel lazy enough right now.
*wants to say something else but is not sure what to say* <--- How cliche.

Hey Ema!
I'd love to try Science Fiction, so we could do just that or "sort of squash them together" as you put it. But first, what kind of science fiction do you like? Since I haven't written any sci-fi before, I'm open to any type. Probably an even better question is, who are your favorite sci-fi authors (or authors in general)? I like Scott Westerfield(Uglies), Tamora Pierce (books about Tortall), Christopher Paolini (Inheritance/Eragon), Nancy Farmer(House of the Scorpions), Philip Pullman(His Dark Materials/The Golden Compass), and Timothy Zahn(the Dragonback Series). Westerfield, Farmer, Pullman, and Zahn write sci-fi, but it's a mixed bag for types of sci-fi.
My style of writing is usually just sitting down and writing off the top of my head, whether I have a plot or not. I'm horrible at naming characters, so I'm really hoping that you are better than me. (If not, I find that using a baby naming dictionary helps, especially if it has meanings of names too.) I tend to write from a female perspective, but again, I am open to trying new ideas.
I'm being called to dinner, so I'll end this by saying that I can't wait to start working with you and Happy Valentine's Day!

Hi! I was wondering where this went, I couldn't find it on any pages for some reason...
I also like Phillip Pullman and Scott Westerfeld, I like The Host (Stephanie Meyer), Frankenstein, if that counts, and Elsewhere by Gabrielle Zevin. Probably others, but I can't think of anything right now. :)
My style of writing is basing it on some weird dream I had and writing off the top of my head from there. Also, if I read a book, and there's a person who does something, it might spark some totally new idea in my mind. But that doesn't happen too often. I'm okay at naming characters, so that's why I use a baby names book too. I like to do a new twist off exotic names, so it's not completely unpronounceable.
I, too, write from a female perspective, usually first person or third person, and I almost never have it happening right then, like, 'I go to the store and browse through the paperbacks in the food court where street performers are juggling tables.' Silly example, but you get the point. I try to incorporate male characters, too, just to even things out. And a tomboy is useful, also. Actually, most of my female main characters are tomboys, but you can tell me if you don't want to do that. If you saw my example in the main TAPM thread, Rissa is a warrior-guard in the future, so you can see how I'm like. :) I've also tried to write fantasy, but the type I've tried to write always ends up like some cliche version of Harry Potter with gibberish for the spells. 'Corantos Mitolosis' was one of them, as I recall. :D So I tend to stay away from *that* kind of fantasy.
I'm open to any new ideas that you want to do. I try to write in different styles, so if you want to partly do your type of writing, that would be fine with me! :D
Okay, I've got to go now. Lunchtime. Happy *belated* Valentine's Day to you too! And I can't wait to start working with you, also. :D

The post was near the back of Inkwell. I've heard similar complaints from other Chatterboxers. (Note to Admin.: Could you please look into that? It's a little annoying to have to search extensively to find something I'm working on. I'm not the only one bothered by this either.) If you can't find a post again, just go the last page and work forwards from there until you find it. That's how I found this again.
I loved the Host! I like Stephanie Meyer, but then again, I mostly read for plot. Many of my friends complain about her because her writing is awkward.
If I could remember my dreams, I would use them. Count yourself lucky that you can remember your weird dreams. All of my dreams that I remember are so normal it's starting to scare me. I pray that sanity is not contagious...
All of my stories so far have had a headstrong, female heroine. She's not necessarily a tomboy, but she always knows how to survive without help. The story bit I wrote for this TAPM was slightly different, but then again, I'm planning on my heroine becoming a minor goddess of the arts/a lost Muse, so she doesn't really need those traits. By the way, I really liked your story you submitted for TAPM.
My normal genre is more mythology than wizardry, so no problems there. I was thinking that maybe our story could be something like this: it takes place on a different world, one where the myths of Earth are a reality. This could be set sometime in the future of Earth, and we are looking for a new home. We find this new world, but for some reason I don't want to figure out as of right now, we lose all memory of Earth. We learn to live on this world, and adapt and survive. (Maybe we create elves or something!) Maybe we were only a scout party, and other refugees are on their way.
It's a little hazy, and maybe I'm taking most of this from Avatar, but tell me what you think. We don't have to use this if you don't want to, just give me some feedback.
We know posts are sometimes hard to find, Megan. Unfortunately, we don't know how to fix the problem easily or otherwise. It is on our Web master's to-do list. . . .

I like your idea, but we could tweak it a little bit maybe. I'd write more, but my internet connection is bad for some reason today, so I'll give you more feedback later...
Did you like Avatar? I did. :D
(February 23, 2010 - 7:14 pm)
I absolutely loved it! I'm going to go see it again with some of my school friends this weekend.
(February 24, 2010 - 9:16 pm)
Have fun! I'm going to go see it in 3D this time. :)
(February 26, 2010 - 7:52 pm)
It's amazing in 3D. It's not 3D as in things jumping out at you, but it's a submersive thing; you just forget everything else for a period of time. Hope you enjoy it!
(February 27, 2010 - 12:03 am)
I will! :)
So anyway, my branch off of your plot is this:
There are these people. (Yeah, of course.) *yourideahere* A select few of the people seem to have somewhat... psychic powers, and one is possessed by demonic spirits and figures out to use their powers in a bad way.
That would be the very, very basic plot idea. But I'm not sure if that's too fantasy-ish or what, so you can tell me if you like it, and if it's possible to work this in with your idea. If you like it. :)

Yup, that's my long and extensive list of SOME exotic female names. *is tired* I got the names from 35,000+ Baby Names by Bruce Lansky. Thank you, Mr. Lansky!!! I separated the ABC's otherwise it would be harder to read than it actually is. :) And Admins, it might be easier for you to scan through, too. :D
Megan, tell me if you like any of these names for any possible characters, I did this ahead of time so we don't have to spend weeks thinking of the perfect names for the perfect characters. Also, if you like one of the names, and want one to fit into a character's personality, then I can look up the meaning of the name. If that makes any sense, I'm a little fuzzy-eyed and Z's, H's, N's and S's are meaningless to me. :D
Here's an example of what I'm talking about, because I don't even know what I'm talking about.
A Native American related girl, her name could be Nashota, because it is a Native American name.
Oh, I didn't add Nashota to the 'N' list, it appears. :) *adds*
Well, have fun reviewing this list. :D Took me about 1 and 1/2 hours to write it; hopefully it won't take you that long to read it! :)
Have you figured out yet that I set myself an assignment, and then go waaaaaaay overboard? I had planned 5 names for each letter... and that didn't exactly happen. :)
PS: Spox (Spam Box) says "Areh." Could that be a name, too? O.o
(March 5, 2010 - 5:30 pm)
*faints just thinking about the effort needed to create list of names*
*remembers you can't faint when you're dead*
*realizes this sounds weird and decides to move on*
*ahem* First- wow. Second- wow. Third- I like(in no apparent order): Fiala, Gwendolyn (could use nickname of Gwen), Haru (picture of African warrior princess appears in my mind), Iolana (probably from Latin because they changed J to I, making the name Jolana), Kyra, Nairi (same as Haru, except not as princess-y), Pippa (cute, bouncy type), Raku (male African prince type, even though girl name), Ranita, Sun-Hi (awesome-sounding Chinese type name, also male-ish), Verlene(native myth-person name?), Willow (wood nymph?), Wren (same), Briar (no change in sameness here), Yuri (African again), Yvonna, and Zabrina (totally African warrior princess).
I thought that Atalaya would be perfect as the name of the planet.
I want to write more, but my mom is pushing me to clean my room, so I'll finish this later.
(March 9, 2010 - 12:39 pm)
*grins* *blushes afterwards* Wait, you're dead? How come I never knew about this?
I like those names, too. ;) I only picked the names I liked, and some that I didn't, but you like all the ones that I like, so that works out perfectly. Am I making any sense to you? Atalaya, that's a pretty name for the planet. *wishes Earth was named Atalaya* Maybe I'll re-name it that some day. *fantasizes*
(March 10, 2010 - 8:16 pm)
Yes, I'm dead. I died some time back, and as you can see, I am currently in the Underworld, better known as The Realm of Hades (or just Hades for short). I loved Greek mythology so much in my lifetime (as I still do now) that when I died, I found myself in the Greek Afterlife! Now if only I could find the main character in my novel to discuss her personality and motivations with her... *sigh* Oh well, at least we have internet access down here! Really, it's amazing what you can do with renewable energy from the Earth's core.
I also discovered another name that we might be able to use- Leilani! It sounds pretty, and sounds like the name of a native of Atalaya (I assume that you agree with me on the name).
Possible add-on to plot:
When the humans land on Atalaya, they forget everything about their past, which includes their own names! So they come up with new names for each other. It would account for some of the queerer names. I'm not sure whether it would even work or not, so don't hesitate to say nay if you don't like it.
Talk to you later!
(March 11, 2010 - 7:32 pm)
Ooh, brain-washing... sort of. Me likes the idea. ;) Also, we could come up with a reason why they lost everything... Maybe there's some unknown 'disease', I'd like to say, with the planet. Something is dreadfully wrong, but they don't know it, because they've lost all their training. They have to re-learn everything, and they acquire an animal-like nature. They think that their 'home' is perfectly fine, until a series of strange natural disasters occur. Tell me what you think of that, I'm not sure if that would work, either. ;D
*hums a funeral song for Megan as Ema drifts away into the misty shroud of Atalaya*
