Name Thread!
This is where we can talk about names for our characters, and brainstorm ideas about names, and so forth.
I am writing a play and need names for:
-the main character's parents (very normal sorts of parents)
-her sister-in-law (a parents' girl, grew up in a weird family)
-the main character's husband's grandma (part of the weird family).
Suggestions would be appreciated, if anyone has them.
Anyway, so that's the purpose of this thread--to discuss names for characters.

-the main character's parents- Emily (sort of generic and non-descript, but still a nice name, and George, (Also sort of generic and traditional but trustoworthy and classic.
-her sister-in-law- Lavender, (not too uncommon but still unique and pretty) or Luna (Still not un-heard-of, but also shows that her family is not super traditional.)
-the main character's husband's grandma- Dorothy, (kina old fashioned but still perky. This name could also work for the mother,) or Ida, (still old-fashioned but still excitable and a little wild.

Thank you! I love Ida or Dorothy/possibly Dorothea for the grandma.
Since
I posted this thread, I have considered naming the parents Este and
Thomas...it's funny how similar your suggestions are to those. (I'm still not sure what their names will finally be.)

oh, fun! i love naming characters!
Luna and Lavender are both lovely names for the sister-in-law! you could also have a more unique/weird name (that could potentially foreshadow something later in the story? :0) with a slightly more normal nickname? (ex: "Hurricane" but goes by "Ricky" if she's more stormy/dramatic/intense or "Magenta" but goes by "Maggie" if she's more eccentric/bubbly) idk - if you'd be up for giving some plot details (or the main character's/main character's husband's names, so i can see what would match?), maybe that could help me come up with some more name suggestions? only if you want to, ofc :)
also i'm just going to take this opportunity to yap about some of my character names, because why not. most of the names i come up with are just based off of vibes, but i do like to assign meaning or include bits of foreshadowing sometimes. i have a character, for instance, called Odilia Pickett-North - "Odilia" was made up, but it turns out to be quite similar to an old german name ("Odila") meaning "prosperous in battle" which quite fits their character. "Pickett" is remniscent of picket signs, as Odilia ends up playing a major role in a revolution, while "North" reminds me of a compass, because her childhood dream was to be an explorer. i also have a story where everyone's last name is "sandwich" translated into a different language. so. that is a thing you can do.

Magenta or maybe just Maggie might suit the sister-in-law--when I wrote "weird family" I was meaning that she and her brother, who's been given the placeholder name of John but needs a name too, had grown up with a lot of slightly strange relatives but weren't too strange themselves. And I love the story you provided about Odilia Pickett-North.

An update on the whole "I need names for a play" situation:
The main character's parents will be either Este and Thomas or Emily and Thomas (it depends).
The sister-in-law may end up as Maggie or Lavender, but I'm still open to suggestions.
The husband's grandma I think is Dorothea.
I'd also be open to name suggestions for the main character's husband. He doesn't have a really quirky character; his most defining characteristic is probably that he has lived his whole life (25 years or so) in a big mansion with lots of family, some of whom are strange; he sometimes is overwhelmed by his family and is trying to keep his new wife, the main character, Mary, from being overwhelmed.
If anyone would like advice naming any of their characters, I can give some.

I'm writing a story about a girl (named Daciana, which means wolf) who lives among wolves but is soon captured and taken back to the human realm. I'm still at the beginning process, so I'm open to suggestions for names of the wolves. They usually follow a two-word pattern and have to do with nature, such as Quickriver or Starshadow. I don't really have particular personalities, though maybe one that is fierce, one that is more motherly, and one that leads a leader/father-like role?
@Seadragon, for the main character's husband, maybe Edward or Theodore?
