Writer's Block Thread

I think we all need this at some point :/

anywayz, rant about writer's block, ask for tips on writer's block, ect. and it doesen't just have to be writer's block, it can be about developing characters, developing fantasy worlds, stuff like that. :)

-SPONTANEOUS IDEA INCOMING-

whilst working on my math homework, my brain started thinking, hey, this horde of fraction convertings, negative numbers, and decimal dividings are kind of like a nonexistant void, imagined only for pain and suffering. none of these numbers actually exist in real life.

and then: what if there was someone with decimal/fraction/division-themed powers?

ta-daaa! story idea: two or more kids, with powers based on creative things that kids love to do, like bike riding, paint splattering, Lego building, screaming for no reason, ect. they have to save the world from a villian with powers based on math, particularly decimals/fractions, negative numbers, and division. the villian can also multiply soldiers, and add dangerous monsters together. he can drive normal humans insane, too, not only with the Pythagorian Theorem but with a droning, nasal voice as well. perhaps, along the way the heroes are helped by someone with geometry powers.

at the end, the heroes save the world from math :D

Ooh sounds fun to write! I've done that kind of story before and it's surprisingly easy to come up with ideas. (Although at the same time I'm slightly offended because I like Math, expeption of anything that involves pi, which is ridiculously hard to multiply without a calculator. But never mind that)

On an unrelated note I have some writer's block on the novel I'm writing, because I feel like I'm just writing the same kind of conversations over and over again and the character arcs aren't progressing.

This is a great thread! Thank you so much for making this!

I currently have writer's block where I'll open my notebook/laptop and start writing, but I feel like the plot gets so lost. I've been writing for a while, so my actual sentences can sound good and interesting, and I can come up with good story lines, but my plot developing needs a LOT of work. If anybody has any tips for developing plots, they would be much appreciated! :) Thank you!

In some cases it's helped me with my writer's block to just set aside my writing and do stuff that I enjoy, like reading other books (by authors who have probably suffered writer's block too!), or going outside, or any other hobby you might have.

Good luck with you're writer's block everybuggy! :)

when it comes to plot development, I like to add details to the story that seem unimportant but actually greatly influence the plot (such as, a main character's favorite necklace that they wear everywhere was part of a hoard of pirate treasure). and you can never go wrong with a good ol' betrayal! sudden plot twists and cliffhangers are great too.

(by the way I love your name!)

Thank you so much for the tip! That's actually really helpful. (And thank you for the compliment about my name. Yours is cool too!)

Writer's block is terrible! It's what causes me to have way too many story idea beginnings, but no idea for the endings. I've only conquered that a few times (as in I wrote only a few complete stories).
