Personality: Shy but incredibly kind, extremely supportive of her few close friends, patient, sometimes has trouble opening up to others, encouraging, can get anxious

Appearance: Tall with long light-brown hair and hazel eyes. Sometimes wears glasses but much prefers contacts.

Skills: Autumn is an aspiring artist and loves everything to do with creation, whether it's inside her head or unfurling on a piece of paper. She is also amazing at making others feel better when they're down.

Hobbies: Doodling on her Converse, listening to music, taking nature walks, crafting, reading, thrifting

I cup my chin in my hands and stare out the window. Tiny droplets of rain race down the glass, a heavy thrum echoing throughout the car. My mother turns down the upbeat pop music she was blasting and cranes her neck around the passenger seat.

"Gem, you're so quiet. I thought you were excited for camp?" she says, draping an arm over the back of the seat. I shrug.

"I am, sort of." I reply. "It's just that Lila was supposed to come." My best friend, Lila, decided last-minute she wasn't coming. Apparently she was more interested in lifeguard training than me. 

"Aw, I know, hon. But I'm sure you'll still have fun!" Except..isn't that what parents always say? And then things go wrong? 

"Mhm." I go back to staring out the window, and a few minutes later, we pull up to a bus stop. A few kids are already clustered under a few umbrellas, suitcases and bags strewn everywhere. I heft my huge duffel bag over my shoulder and wave goodbye to mother, who's...crying? That's not good--but I don't have time for another word, because then the Greyhound pulls up. I join the group of teenagers and take the steps beside a girl with bright red hair. They seem friendly enough, so I take my seat next to them. 

We sit in silence for a few moments. "I'm Gemma, what's your name?" I say when I can't take the quiet anymore. 

"I'm Torch Lily, she/they." they say with a smile, tucking a piece of hair behind their ear. 

"Ah, same!"

My friends and family say that when I'm excited about something, I bounce up and down and talk really fast and act like a little kid.

Yeah, that's totally true.

Right now, waiting at the bus stop with my umbrella, I. Am. Thrilled! Summer is always so boring. All my friends go to camp or get jobs as lifeguards or something, and nobody's around. But now, I'm going to camp too! And I'm going to make some new friends, I just know it. 

The weather is beautiful - gray and rainy, which should be helping my plants grow. I told my sister, Claire, to water them while I was gone, but it's comforting to know they'll be okay if she forgets. And there's a whole bunch of people here! I want to talk to all of them. I wonder if any of them like butterflies? Or constellations, or plants, or -

Screech!

The Greyhound pulls up. "Yes!" I say, bouncing onto the bus and into a seat, where I pull out one of the books I've packed. This is going to be awesome!

I grin at Gemma and flick some hair away from my face, then give up and just pull it all back into a messy ponytail. Only after I've tied off my hair do I realize I almost stabbed them in the face with the digital stylus in my right hand. My drawing tablet sits in my lap with a half finished drawing, my wireless headphones are around my neck, and my backpack is tucked beneath the seat.

"Oops, sorry bout that. Lovely to meet you, Gemma! Where are you from?"

A smallish teen bounces onto the bus and settles into the seat across from us, pulling out a book. Meanwhile, the rain picks up and drums more loudly on the roof of the bus as more people quickly pile in, getting out of the wet as fast as possible.

Hi!! This story looks awesome so far. Here's my chapter:

Autumn

I'm sitting on a dark Greyhound bus on the way to summer camp, drawing hearts and stars on the window out of condensation from the rainstorm, which has been pounding down steadily all day. I'd much rather be at home on the couch with Netflix, pajamas, and a cup of hot cocoa, but my mom insisted on signing me up for camp months ago. She said she wanted me to "branch out more," which I don't understand. I have plenty of good friends. Well, maybe not plenty. But enough. Enough for me. I certainly don't need to spend the summer in a smelly cabin with complete strangers. If anything, it will make me withdraw even farther from common society, not "branch out more."

I stare at the blank sketchbook page in my lap and consider whether or not it would be borderline creepy to sketch people on this bus. I don't have much other inspiration, and some people here do have cool looks. And besides, I'll probably never see most of them again in my life, so it's not like they'll hold it against me. Wait, but actually...I will see some of them at camp, so it's probably not the best idea.

I'm too focused on making a "pro" and "con" list inside my head that I don't even notice we've reached a new stop. Before I know it, a girl is standing before me, her blond hair soaked to the point that it nearly appears brown and her glasses dotted with raindrops.

"Hi," she says. "Can I sit here? There aren't any open seats."

"Oh, right, yeah," I say, moving over a little so she can sit down. I'm not the hugest fan of having a seatmate, since interactions with strangers aren't really my thing. I guess I'll be doing a lot of them over the next few weeks, though, so I better get used to it. 

"I'm Echo," she says, wiping her glasses on her sweater. 

"Echo? That's a cool name," I respond. "I'm Autumn."

"Also a cool name," she responds, smiling. Then, seemingly to her glasses, she adds, "Why do you have to get so smudged? Really, why?" She looks back up at me and smiles apologetically. "Sorry bout that."

"No, I get it. That's why I wear contacts," I reply. "You excited for camp?"

She shrugs. "Kinda. At least it's a break from homeschooling."

"I wish I was homeschooled."

She laughs a little before taking out her phone and putting in her earbuds--a polite way of saying that she's done with the conversation, which is perfectly fine by me. I go back to staring out the bus window, the world ablur as it rushes by me, soggy and dark and wet. This is definitely an uninspiring day to start a new adventure.

I slammed the door, pushing my ear buds in. Opening my translucent bubble umbrella I storll down the side walk, towards the bus stop. Scrolling on my phone, I take out the camera, snapping pictures of random plants or animals.

At the bus stop, I suck on my lolipop, thinking about the day before I left.

I don't live with my parents, I live in a small one bed, one bath apartment next to two very loud families. My pet snake is currently resdiding in my bag..

"No one will know" I muttered patting the black bag.

The bus pulled up coming to a screeching halt. i jump on to the bus, turning the sound up. Looking for an open seat.

Spotting one next to a short, olive skind boy looking happily out the window.

"Uh hi..could I sit here?"
