The ice had not always been in the boy's heart. It began as a sliver, a fragment of cold mirror. It grew, until it had encased his heart and left no room for warmth. It burned like fire and yet brought no heat. And now the boy smiles, for the ice hides what he doesn't want to remember. He smiles, for the ice smiles back.
He smiles a frozen smile.
