Personality: never speaks, never smiles, occasionally disappears, floats, often seen crying, never makes noise

Backstory (must have took place in the orphanage, like a fight or big event with a caretaker or bonds with another orphan.): (I want her to be a ghost, if that's OK) She used to live here after it fist opened. A short time later, it collasped and she died during the collapse. The orphanage was rebuilt, and she has been haunting it ever since.

@Pancake- I love the idea of one of the orphans being a ghost; it brings an interesting aspect to the story! One suggestion though- can you hold off on her being able to talk through people's minds until she gets her powers?  That's actually one of the emotion possibilities:)

I groan, sit up, and fumble with my alarm.  I squeeze the snooze button and roll over again.

Beep. Beep.  Beep.  Beep.

I sigh under my breath and slam the "Alarm Off" button.

Slurp. Slurp. Slurp. Slurp.

"Get off, Fuku!" I shove the cat off my face.  She hisses and scratches me.

I yelp, and the orphan in the bed next to me glares at me from under their pillow.  "Shut it." I mumble tiredly.

"Everybody up!" screams Chikara, storming into our room.  "It's the first day of homeschool."

"When was the last day?" I huff, burying my face into the sheets.

"We just kept up with your education over break,"  Chikara growls.  "Now get up."

"What break?

Chikara slaps me.  "Since we spend too much time and effort on you kids, we even made schedules for you."

I snatch a piece of paper out of her hand and stare at it.  According to this, Kiki teaches a third of us about the arts and about writing/reading for the first chunk of the day, Fuyume about math and "helpful skills" (whatever that meant) for the second, and Chikara about science and self-defense for the third.

"This is stupid," I say.  "Why can't I learn from textbooks alone like we did before?"

"I'm done with you," Chikara shouts angrily. "Just hurry up and get down to breakfast so you can be on time."

Alright, a few things.  None of our characters know this just yet, but there's a powerful crystal-type thing that can grant power and magic to whoever weilds it.  Chikara and Fuyume both know of its existence and want to find it.  Chikara wants world domination because I literally cannot think of any other villain motivation.  The crystal formerly belonged to Fuyume before it was lost, so she wants to retrieve it. Kiki is utterly clueless that any of this is happening, and Fuku actually knows where the crystal is.

THIS IS GOING TO BE AMAZING. Also i hope i get shape shifting i have all ways admired that power.

Our overly excitable, pink-haired caretaker bounds into the room after we have eaten breakfast,

"Morning," she says happily.  "Chikara or Fuyume have probably already handed out schedules, so you'll no doubt see I am teaching you about ART today!"

She waits for applause.  It never comes.

"Anyway," she says, slightly disappointed, "today I thought we'd go over the history of paint!"

Oh joy, I think tiredly.  The history of paint.

"Paint," she says, "is one of the earliest art forms in human history.  Prehistoric people would paint on cave walls with ochre and charcoal.  It is a way we humans have found necessary to express ourselves, and I must say, the feeling of the brush in hand is one of the most lovely I've ever experienced."

Kiki is really nerding out here over paint.  If I'dve been in a better mood, I probably would've appreciated her enthusiasm a bunch more... but it's way, way too early for optimism.

"More recently, we've found paintings done with a material that we haven't yet been able to identify," Kiki says.  "It's blue, appears to be some type of stone crushed into powder, and gives off a strange aquamarine hue." 

At that moment, Fuyume strides into the room and sat down.  Fuku jumps into her lap.

"Go on," Fuyume said with her usual indifferent tone, though to me it seems slightly interested.

"Oh, um," Kiki says, "the-the paint, nothing much is known about it other than that.  It was found in a mine to the north of here, by a child who wandered in by accident.  We will now take a short break."

I look at her suspiciously, but rise, grab my book and sit in the next room, as Fuyume walks over to talk to her.
