Forest Role Play: Part Two
~~~
"In the middle of a huge sea of trees lies a tiny town.
The forest used to be called Silva Vivus Umbrare, which, translated from the old language, means the Forest of Living Shadows, but the people just called it the Woods. Still, the forest lived up to its old name.
The trees moved during the night, uprooting themselves and gliding across the earth to a new spot. Sometimes the guards on duty at night would catch a glimpse of an elk or a deer gliding through the trees with a tall, graceful figure on its back. Occasionally, a larger creature slipped past the guards and stole away a cow or pig or goat.
But even with all the dangers which surrounded them, the people of the town were proud to say that through the half-decade of the existence of the town, they had never lost a person to the woods or to any creature living in the woods.
Until now.
This year, during the Cilana festival, a time in the spring when the people cut down all the trees which have grown at or moved to the edge of town, three young children disappeared.
Alana, an eight-year-old girl with frizzy red hair and a quick smile, Jakob, a serious five-year-old boy with sunburned skin from too many naps in the open, and Zena, a talkative seven-year-old girl with intense blue eyes. Their disappearance stopped the Cilana festival and threw the town into chaos.
The townspeople knew that the three would never have gone off into the Woods by themselves, for the fear of the forest was too deep set in everyone, so the townspeople could only think that they had been kidnapped or stolen. Although the townspeople were frightened and scared and the parents of the children were frantic, only a few people dared to go out into the woods.
You, along with a small group, have decided to venture into the forest to see if the children can still be found. Your bravery has given the town new hope, and the townspeople have provided you with weapons, tools, and horses. You will leave on the new moon.”
Here it is, the long-awaited sequel to the Forest Role Play! For those of you who don’t know, the original thread was created by Hummingbird, who unfortunately left the CB soon after. We kept the thread alive, and ended up finishing Part One in April of 2021. We left several loose ends to be tied up in Part Two--this thread!
I’ll summarize the plot so far, and if you’d like to read the original thread, I’ll link it here: http://www.cricketmagkids.com/chatterbox/inkwell/node/446255
The characters gather their supplies and leave the village, soon setting up camp for the night. They encounter their first creature, an Ibrix whom Azi keeps and names Ben. The next night, after an argument, their camp is attacked by Hollowfaces, Shadowbeasts, and Murkbeings, dangerous creatures of the forest who can sense and track hatred. They fight off the creatures and make it to a nearby village, where they spend the night. The next day they continue and find a hair ribbon belonging to Zena, one of the missing children. At camp that night, their fire spreads, growing out of control and burning the clearing. Azi, Iyara, and Demi run back into the flames to save Ben and Spirit, Iyara’s dog. They make it out, badly burned, and the group puts out the fire with river water. After searching the forest for a few more days, the characters find a dead eight-year-old boy, though not one of the kids they’re searching for. They hold a funeral, and an upset Demi wanders into the woods and is kidnapped. She wakes up next to Jakob, one of the missing children. Back at camp, the characters realize Demi is missing, and birds (whom Jeannie can speak to) lead them to Demi and Jakob. There’s a fight, and everyone but Demi, Jakob, and Ash are captured. To escape, they jump out of a moving wagon, then follow the wagon after meeting up with Demi, Jakob, and Ash. Bradley breaks his arm and it starts to rain, so they set up a shelter. Zabder wakes up with amnesia, and the other two missing children, Alana and Zena, show up out of the forest. Meanwhile, Ash wanders into the woods and meets an elf-like creature, a Fynchnox, who has another Zena. Demi finds them and gets hit by an arrow, and the others run away while Macey offers to trade herself for Zena. Caston and Azi remember the Fynchnox’s weakness is cold, and they all go back to help while Demi stays with the kids. They defeat the Fynchnox, but then realize that there are two Zenas. Sebastian figures out who is the real Zena because on is missing the hair ribbon that they’d found earlier. They decide to return to the village, but realize they’re lost. Just as they think they’ve found their way, they’re attacked again by Shadowbeasts and mysterious figures throwing knives. They retreat, heading back to the village, but when they arrive they find it empty.
~~~
That’s Part One in a nutshell. Our plan for Part Two is that the characters will leave the children at the village and venture back out to discover who kidnapped them in the first place, and why. Any inactive characters from Part One will stay back to take care of the kids, and any new characters that join will be survivors found in the village. As Hummingbird originally said, don’t be afraid to move the story forward! Create new creatures, add plot twists, make things happen! Hopefully everyone grows to love this story as much as we do.

@Lumi, yes, that was perfect! I really like the way you write descriptions. (And that's exactly how Sky would act.)
(October 22, 2021 - 8:05 am)
@Lumi, you wrote Demi perfectly! I also think of her like a rock too :)
Also @Everyone, I'm going to be gone over the weekend just so y'all know!
Demi~
It had been a rough few weeks. Over the course of the first couple of days, we found twenty-one survivors, none of which spoke up about any recollection of what had happened. Jeannie, Iyara, Zander, Macy, Sebastian, Ash, Azi, Caston, (any of the pt 1 characters I'm missing), and I had become the unofficial leaders of everyone. In the village's meeting hall we set up cots and sleeping mats and mattresses and beds for anyone who didn't feel safe sleeping alone, which was almost everybody. Two people were standing guard at any given time, day or night. When I wasn't standing guard, I was constantly helping, checking in, assisting in the preparation of meals, and comforting the children.
Part of what got me through the hardships of the mission in the Forest was invisioning my father welcoming me back with a big bear hug, celebrating that we saved the children, and seeing everybody again. What's getting me through now? I thought.
I thought about it the rest of the day, and decided that even though it was hard, the hope that someday, somehow, everything would be solved, was what I held on to.
I walked over to the stables to see how Jeannie was doing, and to tell her that dinner was ready. Meals had become a community thing now, many pitched in, and everyone shared the meal.
A girl, I recognized her as Sky, was helping Jeannie with feeding the horses.
"Jeannie, Sky, dinner is ready!" I called "Iyara, Zander, Ash, and Caston made a big pot of stew."
"Ok, be there in a bit," Jeannie called back. "We're almost done."
A couple minutes later, the two girls emerged from the stable's doors and the three of us walked together over to the village square.
Once we arrived we got into the line of people waiting for food. When I reached the front Iyara handed me a bowl filled halfway with stew. I thanked her went to sit down with Jeannie. I was about to ask her how her day was when someone cleared their throat.
"Attention please!" Sebastian called. "I have an announcement. We are almost out of food."

Markina~~
Exhausted, I lean against a brick. So we're almost out of food. I guess I could try to find som corn, using my powers, but I'm just too tired.
I'd fallen asleep in the library searching for any records of people like me, and woken up to find nearly everyone in the village gone. I'd wandered through the streets in search of them, and then ran into this group of people who'd apparently gone on a quest-thing to find some missing children. I wasn't sure if I could trust them--still not--but it's the only place I have to go.
Something took them, said the stone under my foot.
Surprised, I jerk back. Did you see it?
No, said the stone. It was day, but a great darkness fell over the village. We heard many feet and cries of fear. But we could not see anything. We at first thought it was an eclipse. But now we believe it is magic.
Stones always referred to themselves as we. This fact seems irrelevent, however, as I sit back in shock. Darkness. Could there perhaps be someone who could control darkness? Or a worker-of-magic aiding the kidnappers? If one could call them kidnappers when they'd nabbed a whole village.
Gulping, I look up at the group around me. Can I trust them to understand my power? Or will they think I'm a freak?
Don't be stupid, Markina, I tell myself firmly. The whole reason you came here was to find people like you. I stood up and approached one of them, a girl with green eyes and long brown hair. I think she said her name was Demi.
She's scratching with a stick in the soil, looking distracted as the one called Sebastian continues to suggest our options. I sit down on a brick, wondering if I shall wait till later. But I go up and gently tug on her arm. She looks at me in surprise.
"I--I know a little about where they've gone," I squeak. "Well, I mean, not exactly, but.."
Her eyes grow wide.
"I can talk to plants and-and stones," I say quietly. No-one else has noticed us talking yet. "And one of them said that everything went dark...like, the sunlight dissapeared, and they heard shouts. And when the sun came back, almost everyone was gone."

Aspen-
I'm outside now. It's the only place I can usually go to clear my head, but it's hard now, looking down at all the rubble. Where my family once lived. The bakery I was supposed to work at this year. The library.
Everything's gone, and I can't help feeling like it was all somehow my fault.
The last few weeks have been a bit of a blur. I've gathered my things and left my house. I don't get much sleep anymore. I stare off into the forest when I feel like breaking down. I met up with some other survivors, but I didn't stay. I couldn't.
I wish my sister was here. Anastasia had a solution to every problem. She'd probably say I needed to stay with the other people, too. So maybe I don't wish she was here, actually.
I'm interrupted by my thoughts by the sound of children laughing. I don't know how they can laugh at a time like this. I want to cry.
I grab my lantern and slowly walk into the center of the town. When was the last time this was a normal place? The festival? I shiver. Maybe I'll never get out of here. Maybe I'll just die here. And maybe that would be better that whatever comes next.
[That was kind of short, hope it was okay! I'm so excited to be a part of this :D]

HI can I join or is the entry thingy closed?
(October 25, 2021 - 2:24 pm)
Pretty sure you can, nobody's said anything about ending submissions yet. I'm not sure if there's a cutoff date though; I'd ask Quill about that.
(October 26, 2021 - 2:10 am)
Hi, sooo I WOULD LOVE TO JOIN!! Is there i characher i can write about or do anything for the story???
(October 26, 2021 - 10:18 am)
You can create your own character, but since this is part 2, they'll be one of the surviviors found in the town. They also have the normal limitations (not too OP, teenage-ish, etc.) so just keep that in mind. Again, this is just the impression I've gotten; Quill may be able to shed more light on this and their plan.

Sorry, but I am dropping out of this RP. I am having way too much troble coming up with ideas. Though, my other RP has started if you want post, you can, but so far, pretty much no one has posted except me and Tsuki the Skywolf.
(October 26, 2021 - 2:29 pm)
Hi Pancake! Quill started this roleplay (the part 2 not part 1); I don't know if you meant to post on here (this is the one about the village in the forest) and thought this was Shining Star's, or if you meant to post this on Shining Star's actual roleplay (the one about the crystal city Auzrivilia and the mages and stuff) and hit the wrong title.
(October 26, 2021 - 3:14 pm)
I did mean to post it on here, but I forgot who the host was.
(October 28, 2021 - 3:39 pm)
