Okay I had to think of a dramatic title. Not my best, but oh well XD
---
This is the *dramatic pause* Story Showdown! I had an idea for a sort of writing competition, where you'll compete for absolutely no prize at all! Reply to the thread to sign up :D :D
Participants: any number :D
Format: A combination of brackets + elimination
The prize: The friends you made along the way (this is a joke)
I'm thinking that for a round, I'll assign a topic (ie. drabbles but with a twist), and then I can judge. And at the end, for the final round, I'll ask you guys to vote. How does that sound?
---
Alright. If this flops, shhhhhhh, you saw nothing XD

Because 8 is a power of 2, we'll be doing 3 rounds of brackets.
For the first round, you'll go up against someone else, and I'll choose one of your stories from the matchup. 4 people will move on.
For the second round, the four people who moved on will be paired up, again, and again, I'll choose one of your stories from each matchup. 2 people will move on.
For the final round, the two finalists will compete against each other, but this time I won't be judging–anyone is free to vote (only if you competed, but if not enough people vote I'll open it up to anyone), and the winner will be the one with the most votes :D If there's a tie, I'll vote as well.

FOR THE FIRST ROUND:
The theme is: Drabble (a work of fiction exactly 100 words in length)
The topic is: Fractured Fairytale (will depend on your matchup).
PAIRINGS:
Silver Crystal vs. Emekittycon Kitten
In your drabble, you have to spin the story of The Princess and the Tin Box
Red Starlight vs. Jaybells
In your drabble, you have to spin the story of The Necklace of Princess Fiorimonde
Majestic Mary vs. Skip
In your drabble, you have to spin the story of The Well of the World's End
Feline Fantasy vs. Darkling
In your drabble, you have to spin the story of The Goose Girl

These fairytales are sort of obscure, so feel free to google them to read! Also, note, you don't have to write the full fairytale, it can just be a scene, or your interpretation of it–it's a fractured fairytale, so anything goes really. These are due on the 17th :) And don't feel bad if you lose, all of you are amazing at writing, and this is just for fun :D :D

I'm a little confused at what you mean by a "fractured fairytale . . . " Do we write original ones with the same name, or are ours based off of those fairytales? If so, do we rewrite part of it with it being the same, or do we change something?
Oh, and do compound words with a hyphen count as one word or two?
(July 11, 2021 - 4:56 pm)
A fractured fairytale is a work that is based off of an original fairytale, but you give it your own twist. So yea, it's based off of those fairytales–but you can almost totally change the fairytale, as long as it's still recognizable. I had a friend write a fractured fairytale of red riding hood, where red riding hood was an illegal trader who also happened to be very good at lassoing octopuses. So you can deviate from the fairytale as far as you like!
Compound words that are hyphenated count as one word :)

I stand by the water fountain after school, trying to gulp back the water and tears. I should be at the MMA. Not Cathy.
Cathy was my friend. Apparently I’m “too bossy.”
She confronted one morning, telling me to secretly switch pictures for our school’s art contest (the theme: horses) or she’d tell my teachers I’d cheated on finals. (I didn't.) Her entry was an ugly nag, mine a beautiful magical horse.
Cathy’s won the contest, 200$, and a trip to the museum, leaving me to hang out after school, listening to the geese. My chest burns. I hate Cathy.
