Featherwood Hall RP
---
Heyo mayo, I'm here with another RP that I'm probably not going to participate in B)
---
Basic worldbuilding:
Featherwood Hall is a boarding high-school out in the middle of nowhere–it's a pretty good boarding school, and famous for its many mysteries, that some would even call ... magic. There's never been any confirmation to these tales, but there have been rumors–rumors of clocks that don't tick the same, and fountains of youth, and magical staircases.
And is it true?
Of course.
Your characters are brand new freshmen, and they've just moved to Featherwood Hall. On the first day, the mysterious librarian, Mr. Yin, asks them to retrieve a book he lost from somewhere in the school–and so, your characters set off on an adventure, full of magic and shenanigans, to retrieve Mr. Yin's book.

Uh, yea! The worldbuilding can literally be whatever you want it to be. Add a magical ghost who haunts an abandoned classroom? Yea! There's a minotaur living on the fourth floor? No problem! XD okay but you probably get the point–worldbuilding is generally up to you.
Thaaaaaat's it! I'll pop in from time to time to answer questions/add lore, and I might join when I'm less busy :D

Yes! That sounds perfect!

Lucille~
A girl with her blonde hair pulled back into a tight bun steps out from behind a bookcase. She says that her name is Priscilla. Pansy asks what our magical powers are, and I freeze up. My power is controlling fire. Well, creating it, anyway. I can't control it. Like, at all. I burned down my house once, when I was younger. I never used my powers again after that, and I don't really like to talk about it. I was about to open my mouth to say that I didn't have a power - which Pansy and Priscilla probably would have believed, since a lot of kids don't have magic here - when another girl walks in, followed by a ginger cat. She introduces herself as Poppy, and her cat as Persnickety.

i'm so late i apologize if it's too late to join you can ignore this but otherwise i need a new rp so hello :)
name: Liss Vered
pronouns: she/her (i make too many she/her characters but)
appearance: brown eyes with hints of red and orange which doesn't look as creepy but does look as unnatural as it sounds. freckled, shockingly pale skin that's usually sunburned because she's terrible at remembering to use sunscreen. five feet tall. around fourteen years of age. disheveled shoulder-length red hair (though it looks more like orange to be quite honest).
personality: unorganized (hence the being late), a good sense of humour, sometimes talks without thinking and always regrets it, pretty much the definition of head in the clouds despite only being five feet tall, somehow manages to get good grades (even she doesn't really know how), extremely risk-averse, though this sometimes gets her into more trouble than the trouble she goes out of her way to avoid, pretty clumsy and accident-prone
powers: she can create wind, though she has a considerably small amount of control over this and tends to knock things over a lot, though it's generally just attributed to her clumsiness.
other: n/a

Huh. I thought I made a comment on here, but that was 3 or 4 days ago, and it STILL hasn't shown up...
Mike's POV
---------------------
"AHH! Ok, what did I miss?!" I said, using my super speed to burts through the library doors.
"Dude, you're late." Pansy said.
"Sorry. So, where is this book, and where are we gonna go to find the thing?" I said, un-peeling an orange.
"Can I have some?" Lucille asked me.
"Sure." I replied.

Sounds like a plan, @ChangelingChild (cool name by the way).
I do hope I didn't control anyone else's character too much, tell me if I did. ALSO, I hope the way I introduced Astra and Alyssa was alright, @dreamiing?
Alyssa-
"Well, yesterday the librarian told me there would be someone in this library who could help us find that missing book! What's up?" I said, opening the glass door of one of the book-filled cabinets and stepping smoothly into the room with Astra in tow. "Were you in there this whole time?" Poppy asked. She seemed less freaked out than the others - more curious and trying to figure it out in her head. "Your cat is awesome, Poppy." I say in reply, pointing to her cat. Honestly, it wasn't too hard to phase into one of the many shadows in the bookcase. Never done it with another person before, but Astra seemd alright with the idea when I explained my power to her. We'd both been wandering around the seemingly endless halls of this school before I suggested trying to phase into a shadow in the library. Astra had an interesting object that could pinpoint locations so we kind of combined them and we popped up in the library! Well, in a bookcase but I thought that would make an even better entrance. Also, chilling in two dimensions while I wait for the right moment to slide into a conversation is one of my many skills.
"How did you two fit...?" The girl who'd just introduced herself as Pansy said, unnerved. I smiled and said; "I can travel through shadows! Spooky, right? My name's Alyssa. My awesome companion here - " I pointed to Astra and she quickly responds, saying. "I'm Astra. Um. We weren't spying on you guys." Wow, it totally sounds like we were spying on them now. Aaah, whatever. We could knock everyone out with our sprakly new batons - what are these things for, anyway? Whacking old women? - and make a quick getaway if it got too awkard. Kidding.
"Mr Yin also said something about them possibly asking for something in return for their services, which I reeaally hope didn't mean money." I continued, swinging my baton. I hear Astra carefully close the door of the cabinet behind me with a soft click.
"It's a little odd that a librarian would ask us to find a book, right? I mean, if I was a librarian in a magic school - I'm not, obviously but if I were - I'd probably have done some sort of magic-thing to retrieve lost books or spell them to always return to their shelves once they're due." Lucille muses. "I mean! I'm not critizicing Mr. Yin! He seems like he knows what he's doing - I wouldn't know, I'm not an expert on being a librarian so it's not really my place to judge or anything it just seems a bit... weird?"
"He might be busy preparing tomorrow's class. He's a teacher too..." Priscilla says softly.
"Could be some sort of test." Mike says calmly, taking another piece of his orange and eating it in the most chill and frankly disturbingly placid way. "Seems a little unfair to have a test before school even starts." Astra says behind me, looking up at the various books flapping about near the cieling. "Eh, who knows if it's a test or not." I say as I glance into one of the many bookcases. Mr. Yin didn't exactly refer to the person who might help us in a way that seemed like it was human. Maybe he thought another book would be able to help us find the one he lost. There's a huge grimoir inside the cabinet, chained shut.
~~~~~
I was thinking maybe the "person" (Could be literally ANYTHING, even a talking mirror =P) would point the characters to another room/give them clues to find the book after doing a little job for them in the library? There are a lot of books flying around, perhaps they've been startled by something... Just an idea, this post ended up pretty long as it is. Also also feel free to just jump in, @Luminescence, @Clementine (noice name), and @th3mysticw0lf!
Anything could happen! Maybe it's a gargoyle! Maybe it's a deformed griffin stuck in the library for years after breaking one of Mr. Yin's library rules and must now forever serve him as a book shelver. I do like the idea of a bossy book, though. Anyone, anything. Ya'll decide, just post something and go with it!
Liss~
This school is strange, Liss thinks, flicking her wrist. A small breeze floats through the air. A gargoyle fountain’s water ripples a little more than slightly. Okay, maybe the breeze isn’t so small. Oops.
“Aren’t you supposed to be looking for some book?” snipes a disembodied voice.
She’s startled out of her daze. A bigger wind whips through the air, scattering leaves and making her already disheveled hair even messier. She looks around suspiciously, arms raised, ready to defend herself if the need should arise. Who said that?
Liss doesn’t realize she said it out loud until the same voice announces, “I did, thank you very much.”
She nearly jumps out of her skin but instead settles for screeching unreasonably loudly. “You just- oh my gosh- the gargoyle- oh my gosh-”
This school is really, really, really strange. Actually, why am I surprised at this point? She composes herself. “Excuse me, um… sir…” Liss realizes too late she doesn’t, in fact, know that the gargoyle identifies as male or uses he/him pronouns at all.
“You may call me Gerald.” Well. That wasn’t what she was expecting. “Oh, um, okay. Gerald. I apologize. I didn’t realize you…”
“Didn’t realize I could hear you? Or could talk? Or could think, for that matter?” Their (His? Her? She realizes the pronoun thing actually wasn’t cleared up at all, actually, and Gerald probably wouldn’t take well to being referred to as an ‘it’) voice is annoyed and it irritates her, since she hasn’t actually done anything yet.
“No, actually, I just hadn’t realized that I was being watched,” she huffs. If the gargoyle was not made of stone, it (they?) probably would have rolled its eyes. (That’s it, she’s going to call it an ‘it’ inside her head, this is getting ridiculous.)
“Don’t flatter yourself. I was just told that new students were supposed to be in the library to search for a book.” That did sound vaguely familiar, now that she thought about it. A pang of guilt hits her. Liss knows she isn’t the best listener, but she promised herself she’d try, and she’s already broken that promise.
“...Oh. Well, could you tell me where to find the library?” she asks, sensing another eyeroll.
“Yes. Anything to get you to leave me alone.” Even though she wasn’t actually being particularly annoying. “When you leave the courtyard, take a right, then a left, then a right, then another right, then another right, and then go straight and go to the last door on the left, and then take another left, and then go straight, and then the door at the end of the hall is the library,” Gerald rattles off.
“Um,” she says eloquently. “So… right, left, right, right, right, straight, last door on the left, left, straight, door at the end of the hall,” she repeats.
“Yes. Now goodbye and leave me alone.”
Liss wrinkles her nose and flicks her wrist, sending a wind strong enough to splash the fountain's water all over Gerald’s face. Without waiting to hear whatever it has to say to her after that, she walks off, her mind starting to wander.
Right, left, right, right, right, straight, last door on the left, left, straight, door at the end of the hall… She takes a right, and almost subconsciously follows the correct path.
Is it normal for gargoyle fountains to talk? Do all of them talk? There are a ridiculous amount of gargoyle fountains here. If they aren’t just stone, are they all that grumpy? Why are the walls lined with torches? That seems very unsustainable… and the lighting is terrible here… but it’s also kind of cool. It definitely gives off magic vibes. And even though it’s kind of dark it is pretty. I wish there were more windows. I already miss the sky and I haven’t been in this hallway for longer than a minute. The air is very stuffy in here. Is it just me or is it getting warmer? Remember that time when I…
She’s so lost in thoughts and memories and observations she doesn’t even notice when she walks straight into the door.
She jumps, a gust of wind that is far too big to be welcome in doors enters the library, ruffling pages of open books and making pencils roll off tables and a few people’s hair to whip them unpleasantly in the face.
“Sorry-” Liss squeaks.
“Oh, hi,” The girl’s raised eyebrows are evident even in her voice. Her socks are multicolored triangles on a bright yellow background. They’re… kind of awesome.
“Hi.” She cuts directly to the chase. “So I’m, um, supposed to be looking for a book? With probably a bunch of other students… a gargoyle told me?”
Liss doesn’t think she used to be this awkward, but it’s entirely possible she always was. A black-haired girl with a pair of headphones around her neck smiles slightly sympathetically at her, as if to say been there, done that. Liss smiles back, appreciating it.
“Oh, you’re late,” accuses a girl in dirty jeans and an orange sweater-cape-thing, except she does it in such a mild tone that it doesn’t actually feel like an accusation.
“Sorry. I, um, kind of got distracted…” Liss says nervously.
“Well, anyways, we’re looking for the book too, and we’d appreciate the help. I’m Pansy,” adds Pansy. Apparently purple hair is a thing here, because Pansy’s is very purple, as is another girl’s.
“I’m Poppy,” says the awesome socks girl. “Alyssa,” says the girl who is wearing her sweater strangely. “Hi. I’m Astra,” says the black haired girl who’d smiled at Liss in a quiet voice, like maybe she’s as nervous as Liss feels. The introductions go on: the other purple-haired girl is Lavvy, the girl with the very tight blonde bun is Pricilla, the red-haired girl (whose hair is actually red! And not orange! Lucky her) is Lucille, and the last one is Mike.
“Hi, nice to meet you! Poppy’s socks are really cool,” Liss says.
Oh, shoot. That was not what she meant to say. “And I’m Liss, nice to meet you,” she tacks on awkwardly.
~~
okay, so I wrote most of this before Changeling's comment, so apologies XD
@dreamii, you've RPed with me enough to know I cannot write romance for my life, but...
Listra?
Maybe?
what do you think?
Also, @everyone, I'm thinking that all the gargoyles talk, but they all have different personalities- so the one Lucille talked to could be weird and mysterious and talk in riddles and Gerald (I needed a name and I was thinking about Piggy and Gerald for some reason okay) could just be really annoying and grumpy, etc.
Also, I think (if dreamii says no thanks to Listra which I get because honestly I just came up with this like right now because I think Liss has a crush on Astra) Liss'll be up to shipping with girls only :)
But heads up, I cannot write romance for my life, so.
Also, just to add a little more to Liss's character- me writing her for the first time means I now have a whole lot more to say:
she's only risk-averse when she's down-to-earth enough to remember to be, which is to say, not often. she's awkward, but not so awkward she doesn't like talking to people. she's not great at showing she cares about people. she is not easily scared or daunted and not easily stressed. she's also not offended easily, and when she's terrible at communicating about it.
and yeah :)
Poppy
More people keep filing into the room. Honestly, I'm having a hard time keeping track of them all. I start counting. Five...seven...
Before I can finish, half the people scream, and Persnickety's fur stands on end as he claws my shoulder, on which he has perched. I cover my head with my arms, as is my automatic reaction to screaming, before realizing that a smoky-white ghost is hovering in the air above our heads. Cool! I've never met a ghost before.
The ghost sighs impatiently. He's an old man with wispy white hair--although I realize that everything about him is white, so his hair could actually be any color--an unkempt, patched suit that seems to be at least a century out of date, and--is that a monocle?
"I am Mr. Weiss." He speaks with a German accent, and pronounces the name "vice." "I used to be the librarian here. I understand you are all looking for a lost book." A few people nod nervously. "I believe I may be of some assistance."
"Is Mr. Yin coming?" someone, I think her name is Alyssa, asks.
"Mr. Yin is otherwise engaged at present," Mr. Weiss. That seems rude of Mr. Yin, especially after making such a big deal out of the vanished book. How can he just not show up? But I stash this curiosity for later. "Our books here at Featherwood Hall are quite intelligent. If a careless student misplaces one, or if a book somnambulates into another part of the school, it can almost always find its way back to the library without trouble. A missing book is quite unusual."
Pansy-
I bite my lip. Mr. Weiss...is creepy. Alyssa owes him a favor? How? Why? I clear my head, telling myself to stop worrying. "So, let's just start. Here, I'll...I'll write a note for any other kids coming, so they know where to go." They all kind of nod, but even I can't talk forever. "So", Poppy says, and I nod. "Yes?" "Well, I guess we take the stair case, over there." I look up, swallowing. It's high, really high, I can hardly even see the ceiling. The only boy, Mike, I think, starts striding over to the staircase. "Well, what are we waiting for?" He inquires. I don't say the truth, which would be I'm waiting for someone to tell me that it won't be so long a walk. "Nothing. Nothing at all." I say, but something stops me from finishing the sentence. "Someone is following us. Watching." I say, hardly focusing on my words, hardly breathing. My head is...tracking it. Yeah, that's it. I can feel where they are, almost what they're...thinking. "I can hear them." I say. Suddenly, other voices crowd in my head too, like everybody is speaking all at once. "What's happening to her?" I hear someone say. "Nothing, I'm fine." I respond weakly. My brain is spinning, and I can hardly think my own thoughts. "I just...hear things." I look around, and none of them are talking. In fact, I bet nobody said anything in the first place. "Did you just answer the question...that I thought?" Lavvy asks, and I stumble back, hoping that someone would answer for me.
