Chatterbox: Inkwell

Pages 3(and most

Pages 3(and most of 4) of my story, it turns out I accidentally posted two pages on my last post, woopsies!

Anyways, enjoy :)

“My name is Kullen, this is my twin sister Natasa.” The short green haired child said.

“You can call me Nat, and my brother Ku.” The taller red haired child added.

“Woof, roooo!” I barked and howled for Winter to take over.

“Eh heh heh,” She laughed nervously as Nat and Ku’s faces twisted into a face of pure confusion. “Excuse my friend, he can’t speak. Erm- well, I guess I’ll start here… I’m Winter, and this is Nix, but there’s one thing you should know, the nurses and teachers will only refer to you as your number, so Nat will be Five-O-one, and Ku will be Five-O-two.”

“Oh? But it seemed like other kids in the cafeteria were calling each other by their names!” Ku pointed out.

“Yes, but that’s because only us kids ever refer to others as who they really are… A fair warning, these nurses might seem to care about you but they don’t. Don’t fall for their guilt tripping! They only see you as numbers, don’t be stupid like me and Nix, that’s how we-” Winter was getting angrier by the second and I had to pull her arm forcefully to get her to realize that she was losing control.

“Er- Just… Don’t trust the adults.” Winter said calmly before walking out of the room with me.

I walked towards my doctor’s office as I shook Winter’s hand goodbye. I was glad to have a moment of relaxation, only to have it crushed by the weight of all my thoughts and theories coming back to haunt me. I reached Dr. Evalynn’s office and tried to open the door, but my hands wouldn’t let me. I could only hover my palms above the silvery knob, staring at the sweat forming on my already soaking wet hands.

I can do this… I CAN do this…” I repeated this phrase inside my head over and over again until the door opened by itself.

A round, lightly tanned face peered through the doorway. She looked at me with a sweet smile. I wouldn’t fall for her tricks, not this time… She can smile all she wants but I will always see right through that warm and sugary look and see the real devilish grin and monstrous eyes that lay hidden beneath her surface.

“Come on in!” Dr. Evalynn said with sour cheerfulness.

I walked in hesitantly, fiddling with the bottom of my shirt as I went. I wouldn’t fall for her mind games today… I would get away from her if it killed me. I walked slowly towards the hospital bed, dragging my feet as I went.

“Alright, patient One, I will give you a notepad and some pencils so that you may write down the answers to some of my questions. Questions 1-5;

Do you experience any discomfort during your everyday activities?

Do you feel pain in any muscles or nerves?

Do you have any nightmares?

Do you have lucid dreams or sleep paralysis?

And finally, do you have any bad experiences with your previous medications?”

I wrote down the answers to all of the questions the way that would most likely discontinue my “prescription”.

  1. No
  2. No

  3. No

  4. No

  5. Yes

Dr.Evalynn tried to hide the shock in her eyes when she read my answers. She quickly gathered herself and continued with her script.

“ Um, okay then, next questions...  What is your biggest concern with your current medical condition, and uh- what is it you want from your experience here.”

MY VOICE

“Um, excuse me?” She said, obviously playing dumb.

You saw what i wrote,

GIVE.

ME.

MY.

VOICE.

“Well, our medicinal scientists are working their best to find a way too-”

YOU STOLE MY VOICE…

I WANT IT BACK NOW…

YOUR SCIENTISTS AREN’T DOING ANYTHING TO HELP ME

“I-I-I can’t respond to that… We are working very hard to cure you all.” Dr.Evalynn was shaken up, disturbed… I could tell she didn’t feel comfortable here, she felt in danger… G O O D

“I-...” Dr.Evalynn’s face of fear twisted into a face of anger and hatred as she spoke into a walkie talkie on her desk.

“Get the shots, he’s about to attack.”

“But isn’t it too early to try those chemicals out on children?” A voice answered.

“I don’t care. Bring the chemical with the security guard.”

I jumped up, running to the door. They weren’t going to get me back, not now, not again.
