Writing Feedback!

I am totally unaware if there's another thread like this so–writing feedback thread! Put your writing here for criticism! Give criticism to other people! Receive criticism!

And make sure to be respectful!

I've got a thread where all of my writing is if anybody wants to check it out! its "Prince of Peace." I'm in the process of posting a full-fledged novel, so if you're interested I would love some feedback! I post a scene every other Saturday, and this weekend is my next deadline.

If you hop on over there and leave a reply, and you want me to give you some feedback on your writing on this thread, let me know! I am more than willing to return the favor.

Feedback on writing is very important. The words we write process much differently in our minds than words that we didn't write. You will never be able to read your writing as if you are a reader. If you wait a long time and forget what you wrote, you can get pretty close, but it still isn't the same. You can also read your writing out loud and get a much better picture of the flow of your words, but, again, still not as good as the opinion of a reader. So it is super important to get feedback from someone who hasn't seen the behind the scenes of your thoughts and is only witnessing the writing itself. A reader will be much better at noticing writing flaws, grammar errors, or bad flow.

I've been writing for quite some time.  If you want some tips I will gladly dish them out! Just let me know on my other thread, I really only live there, but this title happened to catch my eye. Toodles! And happy writing!

Does anyone have tips about slowing down your writing pace? It's one of my writing flaws, I've tried adding more descriptions and that helps a little, but the novel I'm writing still feels a little fast.

I have this problem too. I'd say more descriptions, more dialogue, and make sure you give plenty of your main character's thoughts and feelings.

Also, I'm reading Gail Carson Levine's Writing Magic, and I don't know if it helps, but the first four rules she says are:

1. The best way to write better is to write more.

2. The best way to write better is to write more.

3. The best way to write better is to write more.

4.  The best way to write more is to write whenever you have five minutes and wherever you find a chair and a pen and paper or your computer.

Another way to say this pertains to many skills: the more you practice, the better you'll get!

What do you mean? Like the pace is fast and in 45 pages the story is over fast? or the writing more than five pages a day fast?

@moonshine

Yeah the first one, I feel like my plot is moving too quickly.

@Cynthia M: You could try to add some slower scenes in that focus on introducing the character's personalities more or character development.

I have had this problem many times before. Something I have found is that the story lengthening kind of just comes naturally with experience, at least for me. I used to have things be super short but now I put in as much effort and they get a lot longer. Remember not to force a slow pace (I have definitely made this mistake before). You could try adding more detail and scenes to the story.
