Flower Garden

---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Adela Rue walked lazily between rows of beautiful flowers. She gazed at them, taking them in slowly and thoughtfully. She refused to run, talk loudly, or even think loudly; after all, this was her special place. It seemed magical and wonderful, and she needn't break that spell. Adela smiled down at the carnations, her carnations, and kissed them with her fingertips. They were her favorite flowers, especially a tiny pink one that was nestled between the violets and the tulips. It had been a present from her best friend, Kiya, and in the language of the flowers, it meant ‘I will never forget you’. Adela still remembered exactly what happened, even though three years had passed.

Kiya had smiled and handed it over, hugging Adela, it was two days before she moved, “You know the language of the flowers.” Kiya had whispered “And I mean what this carnation says. Goodbye La-la.” She had said using her special nickname for Adela. Then she had walked away, leaving Adela with the pink carnation in her hand, and a sad feeling in her heart.

One week later Adela had found out that Kiya had died. She had drowned in a lake by her house. Then and there Adela had ran to her special place, thrown herself onto the dirt and dug a small whole. She placed the wilted carnation in the ground. She filled the hole back up, and cried herself into a restless sleep. When she awoke, she gazed with wonder at a bright pink carnation before her. She had known this place was special….but it had never occurred to her that it was magic.
