I've never been published but if you want to learn more about the publishing business read blogs by agents or editors. Some of them are really helpful.

Hey, welcome Emma! :) I think if you want to get into the publishing business, you should start out small first. Enter Cricket contests. Read A Teen's Guide to Getting Published by Jessica and Danielle Dunn. The Young Writer's Guide to Getting Published is also good, but a little old and dated. Then when you're more experienced, come back to novel publishing. Hope this helps!
