In need some

In need some advice on how to make

up good fantasy last names. I'm pretty

good with first names, but I need to

know how to make up good last names

that don't sound too weird... Does anyone

have any tips? Or some examples of ones

you've used in stories you've wrote? (I

promise I won't steal them if you do)

Thanks! XD

Sorry, I'm the same way. I keep making up horrid ones, like Hufotis - which sounds like horseradish!

Most of mine consist of "von something," "de something," "la something," etc. Places make good first/last names too.

Sometimes I take last names from books, but when I want to make up a last name, I combine two that I like, or my last name and a friend's. Example: Brannon (Bradshaw+Donnon). I know that's not a very good one, but I'll think of more later. If you post the first names on here, it would be easier for me to help you becaue I tend to be more inspired when I have a first name to work with (that's just me though.) :D:D:D

Well, the main character who I'm trying

to come up with a last name for is named

Daniel. I know it might seem kind of weird

to mix a regular, everyday first name with

a made up fantasy last name, but I really

don't want to have to rename them now

(I've had the first names for a while).

Hee hee, thanks for helping. XD

I hope that name is inspirational enough...

The form I most often use is simply the character's parents' names, i.e. Aldenson. It works well, and it's fairly authentic, considering that that's how it was for years.

I think she's having trouble with the parents, as well...

Also, obscure words work quite well. Like if the person/people, say, is/are slightly dishonest or thieving, one might go with something like Pelf or Filch as a last name.
