The Amulet Part 1 

It was midnight at camp. A few slightly colored leaves flew to the ground as a few nocturnal creatures went about their business and a few- no, not a few- all of the girls at camp were sleeping. except for one. Me. Maybe two, I realized as I looked at the sleeping bag next to mine, in the same cabin as I was... anyway, it was empty. At first I didn't know who it belonged to. I saw Sally, Reagan and all the others in their sleeping bags... I thought for a second. Or maybe an hour. It's hard to keep track of time at night. Then I realized who wasn't in their sleeping bag. But it was no wonder I couldn't tell who it had been at first because the owner of the sleeping bag had hardly been noticed all day. Suddenly, I noticed something sticking out of the sleepingbag. The night air ame through the door of our cabin for just a bit, giving me the chills. Any thing could be in there... maybe I shouldn't  touch it. For a second, or perhaps a minute(I told you, it's hard to keep track of time at night!)I was bouncing back and forth between both choices. finally, hardly thinking, I lurched toward the sleeping bag and grabbed the item that had been protruding. It was a squeaky toy! Okay, it wasn't, but i Sort of wish it had been! It was really a glowing amulet. It had a purple stone of which I had never seen before. It seemed to have an aura. I was not a bit tired as I wondered if I should put the necklace on. But this time I was so curious that I barely hesitated. i half expected the Earth to split in to, or all my friends to turn into chickens, but everything seejed normal. Until I tried to take it off.
