Chatterbox: Inkwell
As a small girl, Rose to be
precise tiptoed down the stairs of her loft she heard her parents
talking that was no surprise they were always talking but what made
her breath catch in her throat was what they were talking about...
“She deserves the chance
to go to school and she needs to socialize with other little girls
her age she is just to much of a tomboy for us to attempt to raise
her into a proper lady all by our selves...”
her mother said
“Mage you no that she
will wreck the school.” her father said chuckling “But she'll
grow out of it eventually and she is stronger than any little boy we
know.”
her father added
“Yes I know that but she
is 8 that's old enough to be a proper young lady.”
“ Honey you always wanted
a little girl that you could dress up in ribbons” her father said
hardly looking up from the paper he was reading rocking back and
forth in his rocking chair it creaking across the boards “She
just doesn't want to. And no finishing school is going to take that
away from her let her live a little she'll be fine.”
“Well she'll be going I
have a spot for her at Ocean side.”
Rose ran to her room, going
to a finishing school would be the last thing she would ever do she
could read and write and even do math up to short division that was
all she needed to know she was running away, tonight.
Rose had grown a lot in 5
years in intellect, strength, mobility, and of course in height. She
had joined a small group of boys who had run away to avoid school
chores or any other kind of unmanageable possibility's they took bets
to see who could guess. Over time there group picked up several girls
and Rose appreciated that they were a bit slower but Rose helped them
improve were they lacked and she was still faster than anyone else.
As they got older they picked up a boy named Holt it was rumored that
he had been forced to join the navy but ran away instead. He and Rose
got into competitions on who could be faster tie better knots quicker
and tighter. Rose sometimes felt like if they ditched the others they
could make an unstoppable team and she blushed if Holt held her gaze
for more than a few seconds. The boys noticed and teased them about
it she always told them to stop kidding themselves but inside she
felt 10 times happier.
As they practiced
When most of there little
gang had jobs Rose ran farther away hoping to flee from the very land
were her parents had trodden into the ocean were she finally felt
at home sailing brought out the life in her she could climb and run
do anything she wanted out on the deep blue sea.
“And why should I let you
join my crew?” Bad Blood Billy growled down her neck his breath
smelled awful like rotten fish and strong liquor Rose hoped that it
would be a enough to keep him from thinking logically and saying no
to her joining the crew she needed a place to start she hunted for
B.B.B. For a year a supposed myth and she found him if she tried to
leave he would kill her so she would never tell anyone. She had to
get in she just had to!!
she took a deep breath and
said
“I crave adventure on the
ocean and I can work harder than any one else on the crew please give
me a chance!”
“Not a pretty princesses
now are we” Bad Blood Billy said twisting her hair dirty blond
hair in between his two fingers you have a week to prove your self.”
He stood up and stomped out of the room he turned around peg-leg
scraping awfully
“And I do no like to be
disappointed.”
Rose sighed as she scrubbed
the deck it was extremely boring work and she wished for some
excitement a split second later a navy ship appeared into the horizon
Rose looked up expectantly at the crows nest an rolled her eyes Sam
(also known as sleeping Sam) was asleep. Rose ran at the nearest
rope and pulled herself up and climbed to the top she carefully
pulled the spy glass out of Sleeping Sam's pocket and zoomed it in at
the ship and her heart skipped a beat Holt was standing in the
opposite crows nest his dark brown hair being tossed in the wind.
That's it! Rose
growled to herself No love! Absolutely not he's in the navy and
your a pirate that would never end well!
She sighed to herself and
hollered down.
“Ship ahoy! Ship ahoy!”
Her simple warning was
instantaneous pirates came running on to the deck yelling more
commands like...
“Brace the mast!”
“Drop the anchor!”
“Load the cannons.”
This was Rose's first
encounter with the navy and it was all a blur of noise and sound a
breath caught in her throat as the navy climbed to board there was no
chance that they would win and they would be lucky to have a few men
escape this was a disgusting war zone and if Holt died she would
never forgive herself she drew her cutlass Quickstroke and was off
she found Holt in the middle of the fray he was stabbing at force
field Fred and looking alarmed when he couldn't come within 2 inches
of him she quickly countered his blade with hers and ignoring his
gasp of surprise stared jabbing at him and shuffling her feet forward
making him back up bit by bit until he grabbed a rope and swung back
to his ship. She mouthed Sorry then immediately cut the rope
that connected the two ships he wasn't coming back.
