Prologue

“... And so, the Erulian army’s general was defeated, their forces scattered, and- Teliar, are you listening?” The scholar’s gravelly voice rang throughout the library’s interior.

“Huh?” The male adolescent, lounging in the intricately carved, the cherry wood chair asked dumbly, his relaxed posture stiffening as he righted himself.

“Can you repeat back the last two sentences I said? The scholar asked, rubbing at his temples, the gray hair surrounding it was thinning at the crown of his head. His blue historians' robes whispering with his movements.

“ Blah, Blah, something, something, Teliar are you listening?” Teliar mimicked, raising his hand to make a puppet of the grumpy historian, before running it through his shoulder length, jet black hair. “ Are we done yet?” He asked, sliding down, off his chair, into a cross-legged position on the floor.

“Teliar, please, you’re being childish. As an Heir to the throne, you must learn these things.” The historian mumbled, running a hand down his wrinkled face.

“What if I don’t wish to have the crown? C’mon Caleb-”

Professor Caleb.”

“I have eleven before me, and no-one behind me. I can’t be King! Plus, my specialty is useless. It’s not like I need to see how many times I read the same report. Evuio glows, Avihull has his companion, Tulia has the sparks, Keamer has his projections, Leolear has his stars, Yeagren has his elven… thing, Sreah has her soul glow-y amulet thing, Mihr has those wings, Ethe has his prophetic stuff,  Kivyre has the mirror thing, Oveq has the sleep, Oret had that red energy, Arrusi has logic, I just have ‘you touch it, oh look you’ve touched this 56 times’.” He ranted, falling to the side, in defeat.

“ Kivyre has ‘mirror image’ he can reflect any human around him. Avihull has his telepathic bond with Kiki, his owl. Tulia has the ability to harness small amounts of lightning to make small sparks or blow things apart. Keamer can project a mirror image of himself and only himself, which fits because Kivyre is his brother. Leolear has the ability to see to the stars and tell the seasons. Yeagren is an elf, giving him a lifespan twice the length of a normal human, but not giving him the powers of a human heir. Sreah can harness the dead’s souls trapped in the soil and release it to fertilize our plants. Mihr is avian, also not a human heir. Ethe is a prophetess, she can predict future tragedies. Oveq can invoke a restful sleep upon someone, or have them not sleep at all, which is useful for our armies. Evuio does glow, and also can bestow the light upon an object as well. Arrusi has a photographic memory. Oret can emit a flame so bright, it burned half of the old castle down. He has been missing for five years. You have clairvoyance. The ability to see a status of something you touch, but not living organisms.” Professor Caleb explained, stating the heirs in exact order, as Teliar rolled onto his back, twisting his way under the table.

“ Are we done here?” He asked again, impatience shining through his words.

“ Yes, but remember, Your Highness is insisting you go to the summer mansion. Since the plague is spreading closer to the walls of the kingdom and is growing more infectious, he wishes the best.” Professor Caleb spoke softly, as the young Heir arose and walked to the door, calling out before he exited.

“ We’ll see.”

Chapter 1

Teliar found himself standing next to Kivyre, in front of the large, old, Victorian-style mansion. Kivyre had taken to wearing a blue overcoat, with a white undershirt, and brown pants, with a few dirt smudges. He heard the voice of the first-in-line as he said, in his smooth as silk voice, “ Well, what a pleasure this is, I look forward to spending the summer with you, Teliar.” His voice had that sort of lilt from the southern lands, which made his speech sound wistful and enchanting.

“ Yeah, but you gotta admit, it gets boring here,” Teliar commented, walking at a fast pace to keep up with Kivyre’s long strides.

“ Just think of all the parties we could throw here, Teliar! You could find a nice bride and settle down, like Arrusi.”

“ I just don’t want to settle down. I’m just fine being a bachelor with Mihr, Oveq, Tulia, and Keamer.” The shorter heir stated bluntly, as they walked down the twisting corridors to the drawing room. As soon as the Kivyre set foot inside of the drawing room behind Teliar, the shorter of the pair was quickly shoved aside by a squealing Keamer.

“ You came! I thought you would abandon us like last year!” The freckled brother shouted as Teliar covered his ears.

“ I said I would.”

“ Do you two have to do this every time you see each other?” Teliar questioned, rubbing his temples, his silver eyes shining with annoyance.

“ Teliar! Hi! How are you? Was your trip here ok?” A winged figure, jumped slightly as he helped Teliar off of the ground. His white hair shone in the sunlight, his armor which was forest green with leaf-like carvings shone in the sunlight. Two glass diamonds hung from his earlobes, casting sparkling splatters of light around the room.  His sharp features, which don’t soften his hazel eyes, and his delicately pointed ears stuck out slightly, and his fluffy brown speckled white wings marked him clearly as a winged elf.

“ Hello Mihr, I’m fine. The road here was the usual.” Teliar replied, brushing off his riding leathers he wore for the trip here. “ Just a little shaken.”

Mihr let out a laugh that sounded like dew on bells. “ Indeed.”

Yeagren’s groomed head poked up from behind a rather large pile of books in the corner. “ Ah, greetings.” His voice was soft, counterbalancing his elven features, like Mihr, although, he had no wings. The elf’s long silver hair formed a braided crown round his head, leaving a long strand down the back.

The others’ eyes widened slightly as Tulia’s spiked red hair poked up behind Yeagren, and she lifted her hands in a hushing moment, then rubbed them together. Teliar’s eyes widened and Mihr’s face lit up with a smile as Kivyre’s face drained slightly of color and Keamer’s face took on a look of extreme interest. Tulia grabbed poor Yeagern’s shoulders, as yellow and blue sparks flew, each emitting a slight crackling noise, before jumping away. The shock and surprise on Yeagren’s face made the room erupt into laughter, as Kivyre’s face returned to its proper coloring.

He sighed a sigh of relief, before turning to Tulia. “ Nice to see you, Tul. Hope you didn’t terrorize Yeagren too much before we arrived.” He joked, wincing slightly at Yeagren, his eyes had an apologetic shimmer in them. “ Why don’t we do something less dangerous to our poor elf’s health.”

Mihr on the other hand, had other plans for the group. His eyes matched the grin on his face, as he bounced on his heels. “ Let's go do something fun!”

The group’s answering looks were better than words.

Sorry for dying for a while, I have a few chapters in the cue.

Chapter 2

“ This is very dangerous to my health!” Yeager exclaimed as he was dropped off at the top of Gazel waterfall, by a panting Mihr. Tulia, Teliar, Kivyre, and Keamer stood atop of the waterfall, the pool below them glittering like the earrings that Mihr wore earlier.

The previously mentioned stood up, still panting. “ You guys… are heavy…” He breathed out, slumping forwards, hands on his knees.

Teliar chuckled, ringing out his hands, then placing them on his hips, now adorned by long swaying pants, which are being modeled by most in the group. “ Yes, but we’re here, and this was your idea.” He pointed out, grinning.

“ Yeah, but gosh, why?”

“ Are you all ready?” Tulia asked, her new outfit consisting of long pants, and a tank top. “I’m practically dying of impatience.” She giggled slightly as she put a hand to her head dramatically.

Yeager stood, him and Tulia wearing matching suits, which he complained thoroughly about earlier. “  This is dangerous to my health…” He whispered, “like they would care.”

Kivyre shoved the elf and laughed, “ Don’t be a baby!”

“ I can hardly see why his Highness made you first in line, you have just as much sense as the others.” He muttered, catching himself on a rock.

“Three!” Tulia chanted, grabbing Yeager, while the latter repeatedly saying No, no, no ,no no no-.

“ Two!” Kivyre and Keamer said in unison, their similarly accented voices merging into one.

“ One!” Mihr and Teliar cried, hopping about in anticipation.

With cries and chants echoing off of the water, the group jumped off of the cliff, soaring past the glittering waterfall, and into the blue tinted water of the pool beneath.

Mihr emerged from the water first, gasping for breath and laughing merrily. Kivyre appeared next, tossing his hair about this way and that, quickly followed by a deflated Teliar who gasped like a fish out of water. The others one by one popped their heads up above water, some laughing some groaning, and others not… there?

Laughter echoed down to the group of swimming Heirs as Yeager stood, beaming , still on the cliff. As soon as he was spotted, he pointed at each heir, like he was deciding something. Then, without hesitation, he jumped off of the cliff, and yelled, “ Justice rains from above!” As he landed on Tulia.

Tulia let out an ear piercing shriek as she went down, only to push back up again. “You jerk!” She said jokingly, her laughter mixed in with Yeagren’s cackling.

Teliar, on the other hand , slunk out of the water, and sprawled out on one of the smooth, rocky ledges nearby. “ It’s getting dark.” He stated, tapping at the stone beneath him rhythmically.

“Thank you Captain Obvious!” Keamer said to Teliar, laughing as he splashed the shorter with water.

“I’m just saying, we should get back before dark!” Teliar defended, making a hurt face and rolling to his side to look at his assailant.

Mihr sloshed over, no doubt having difficulties lifting his wings with the extra weight, and being dragged back by them. “You’re right Teli, shouldn't we… didn't bring towels… oh dear...” He groaned at the thought of walking with his waterlogged wings all the way back to the mansion. “Why do I always do this to myself?”

Tulia laughed at Mihr’s sorrowful expression as she waded over, Yeager in tow. The elf was splashing about wildly as he was dragged by his ankle. “ Uncle. UNCLE!” He cried out desperately, clawing at the water. As he tried and failed to clutch at the rocks under the water, just out of his reach.

Kivyre took one look at the screaming Yeager and the beaming Tulia, and started laughing. “Wow! You lost that badly huh?” He choked out, clutching his sides as a fresh wave of giggles washed away his voice.

“Tul, please, put the poor male down. You’re kind of... drowning him.” Teliar said, shaking his head if mock disappointment as he motioned with a sweeping gesture at Yeager, who was still splashing about.

“Just a little,” Chuckled Mihr.

Upon Teliar´s observation, she unceremoniously dropped Yeager’s ankle into the water. She then proceeded to make jazz hands, snap twice, and shuffle off to the side, and into a boulder. All the while producing sparks from her hands.

“Dramatic, yet suitable for the occasion of beating up your fellow heir.” Commented Keamer, who had stood silent for a while.

“Hush you, let's head back.” Kivyre teased, lightly smacking the back of his brother´s head.

Mihr nodded feverently, though he was clearly dreading the walk back, and trudged out of the water as fast as his feet could carry him without slipping. The group made their way back, taking a little longer than usual since Mihr kept falling behind. There were multiple occasions where they would hear a wet slap as Mihr hit the ground and a soft, “Dangit! Stupid rocks… stupid wings… stupid water… stupid stupid stupid.”

When the doors of the victorian mansion loomed over them, they heard a voice boom throughout the house. “Ethe! Where are the others?”
