A Sailor's Suit and Black Boots

Please note that I'm using a pen name!  

This is a story I'm writing. It's about a poor girl named Maria whose father was a sailor. Her father disappeared, and her mother had 4 children in an apartment in The Bronx of NYC. It's 1926, and Maria's family is Italian. Her mother immigrated from Italy with her father 12 years before. Maria was born a year later, followed by Ada, James, and Kathy. When Maria was 7, her father got her a sailor's suit and black boots. Her mom mended them so they still fit. I'll post the first part soon!
