Hi, I'm Everild, and I'm relatively new here. I love 19th century writers like the Brontes, Jane Austen, and Charles Dickens. My interest in Tolkien has lead me to some of the really interesting stuff he was inspired by -- Beowulf, the Kalevala, the Mabinogion. Just the names of these books are awesome! T.H. White is another great author -- has anyone else read his King Arthur books?

I am incredibly lucky to live with a beautiful harp. I have been taking lessons for three years now. Any other harpists out there?

My other interests include eating chocolate, learning French, and writing poetry.

Fun Fact: I can speak Russian.Smile

Welcome, Everlid! We're pleased to meet you. I'm sorry but we don't post languages other than English because we'd have to check them first and we don't have time to look up translations.

Hi, Everlid! Great idea! Since you mentioned your love for Tolkien, would you be interested in joining my Lord of the Rings RP?

Greetings, Everild! As you can see, I am Esthelle. I enjoy writing, in poetry and in prose, each form as rambling and randomized as the other. Like the overwhelming majority of Chatterboxers here, I love to read. Although I tend to prefer more "classic" forms of literature (mainly in the form of novels), I also enjoy many more modernized works.

I'm excited by your introduction, as it presents a collection of many of my own interests! I've only read from Charlotte and Emily, none of Anne, so my taste of the Bronte-esque is incomplete. But I do enjoy what I've sampled! I prefer Emily, even though Charlotte's are the "greater" and more edifying works.

Austen and Dickens are some of the most honest, most engaging, and funniest books I've encountered. Even those of their characters that appear at first glance to border on the caricature are remarkable in their true depth and authenticity, especially when you consider that many of these characters probably set the archetypes of their various sorts. It amuses me to reflect that  the stories we consider relatively high-brow now, like Dickens and Austen, would have been thought idle and vulgar by people of the times they were written. Things certainly change!

Tolkien is my favorite author, and has been for some years now. He's helped me through some darker places, and expresses parts of me in ways I'm not equipped to do. How many of his works have you experienced? I really enjoy his extra-Arda material -- his essay "On Fairy Stories" continues to shape the way I approach worlds, both Primary and Secondary, whether  investigating someone else's or exploring my own.

Yessssss!!! I've only just disturbed the surfaces of those works, having neared the end of Tolkien's Beowulf translation, and started the Mabinogian and Kalevala. Do you have a favorite among the three?

Yes. Yesyesyesyesyes. I factually love T. H. White's take on Arthurian legend. I didn't know a story could be so funny and so heartbreakingly sad at once, conveyed almost casually, and yet so carefully. White's Camelot is a paradox-beacon of all that is desperately worst and best of Humanity.

You own a real harp? And take real lessons? I'm both impressed and envious. All I have after the fashion of a harp is a little 12-stringed affair, and there's no chance of even locating an actual harp-teacher, let alone affording their guidance! Or a full-size harp, for that matter. Is yours a pedal, or a lever harp? Or neither? How many strings does it have?

And who doesn't like eating chocolate. ;) I've been considering starting French, but I guess I'd better improve my German first. You speak Russian? Is it as difficult as it sounds?

Hum, that was characteristically long and rambling. Namarie!

Oh my... We are kindred spirits!

I do recommend getting acquainted with Anne Bronte. I just read The Tenant of Wildfell Hall, a story of a woman escaping from an abusive husband. It had a slow start, but it got interesting later on.

Outside of The Lord of the Rings, I really like The Children of Hurin -- so tragic and wonderful! At the end, all the main characters are dead. I almost cried. Farmer Giles of Ham and Smith of Wotton Major... Oh, and Leaf by Niggle -- I loved it.

Between Beowulf, the Mabinogion, and the Kalevala, I'd say Beowulf is probably my favorite. Seamus Heaney's translation was wonderful, especially the underwater fight scene. Unlike Tolkien's, it is written in verse instead of prose. The Mabinogion and the Kalevala are also great -- I am so glad you're reading them. Seems like most people haven't even heard of them.

Yes, after four years of longing, I have a harp... Pedal harp, with 46 strings. She's taller than I am!

As for Russian... I actually lived there for a while -- well, actually my parents moved there before I was born, so I have no memory of learning the language. Which is awesome. So, if you want to learn a language with absolutely zero effort, simply immerse yourself in it from birth and you're all set!

Wow, you live with a harp and you speak Russian? Two things I wish happened to me! :)

Anyway, it is nice to meet you, Everild. I am Pooki P, but you may call me Pooki. I like to draw, write, sing, and I live with three very special dolls and a boatload of plushies and porcelain cats. I also love to cook and eat.

Hey, All!

My name's Ferris, and this is also my first post on here, if you couldn't tell. It's really cool that you can speak Russian, I always thought Cyrillic looked cooler than Latin characters. But I think it's amazing how many languages are out there, and how different and similar some of them are. I'd love to develop a language from the ground up, like Esperanto. And then let it develop into a bunch of other dialects, like a mother language. Of course, even if that did happen, it'd take way longer than my lifetime.

Other than language, I love literature and film, especially disecting really interesting scenes and making alternate endings and all that stuff. I see people like to do RPs on this site, so that'd be right up my alley too.

I do love fantasy and sci-fi and superhero RPs and all that, but I would also love to give some underappreciated subgenres some love, like gambling or sports literature. You'd be suprised how tense and exhilerating some well written gambling/sports novels can get when the stakes are high!

Well, somebody let me know if you'd like to collaborate on something like that. I look forward to meeting some of you.

Hi Everlid! I'm Cockleburr. I've been on the Chatterbox for two years. I took harp lessons a while ago for about a year, but I haven't for a long time and I wouldn't exactly call myself a harpist. I do gymnastics and am a level 7. I have pet chickens and I know some Hebrew! I'm a self taught draw-er (I feel like calling myself an artist sounds pretentious) and my favorite subject is science. I've been a big fan of Sherlock for almost a year now and I have started watching Doctor Who, which is phenominal! I love it! My favorite authors include Philip Pullman and Tamora Pierce. The book I'd reccomend to everyone is The Golden Compass.

Everlid, I also enjoy chocolate and I'm learning French in school! I'm not brilliant at it, but it's cool to learn new languages. See you around!

Hello Everild!

I am Spring Flower! I am also relatively new here.

I have not read any of the books you've mentioned, but I consider myself to be an advid reader. One of my favorite series is Greenglass House(which if you haven't read, you definetly should). Also, I love watching Avatar: theLast Airbender(or rather rewatching).

I love the sound of the harp, but I play piano(and am also learning ukulele). I have a friend who is into flutes! He has this really cool Native American made one. No matter what notes you playon it, they all blend together and sound really traditional.

My other interests include eating chocolate(YUM!), researching stuff for my writing, and reading new books!

I can aslo speak Mandarin Chinese!!! I'm not so good yet, but the characters in my location spot mean 'Chunhua' which translates to Spring Flower.

Hi, Everild!!

I'm Aspen! I've been on the CB for a little over a year. I love Tolkien too, although I haven't delved past Lord of the Rings yet, sadly. I am an ultra nerd of all things fantasy, so if you're looking for new books to read, come to me and I will give you a list of fantasy books that could take up two-and-a-half pages. At least. ;) My favorite animal is a wolf, and my favorite color is black. Just so you know, my location after my CB name at the bottom of my post(when it pops up) is always the title of the book I read last(since I'm usually reading two.)

Back to the subject of fantasy: I love, love, love Harry Potter so YES it gets its own paragraph. (Hehe.) I've literally debated someone on why Harry is not a jerk before. Harry is absolutely my favorite character although I do love Snape. I know it sounds really weird to say that but he's awesome and I won't even go there as far as my Snape obsession rant goes.

And that's so cool that you speak Russian!! I wish I could say I knew a useful, hard language but I'm just learning Latin right now, and have yet to truly be able to speak or read it. But hey, I'm a rising 8th grader so I guess I'll get there eventually. I'd really like to learn, French, Polish(very random), and, (even more random), Welsh. (I read this really good fantasy series called The Dark is Rising and got obsessed with Welsh stuff.)

To sum up my actual personality, my Myers-Briggs type is INFP which could either stand for what it actually stands for, or it could be Introverted, Nerdy, Fangirl, Procrastinator. XD

I wish that could include Child of God, the most important thing, but ah well. Nothing's perfect. And one more thing, just as a side note. Are you homeschooled? For me it's always really fun to find another homeschooler on the CB. :)

Aaaanyway. That's me, and I hope to see you around on the CB!

I’m Sorrelshine and I’m also fairly new here.

I don’t do anything cool like speaking russian or play an instrument..... but i’m gonna be in band next year!

I’m a huge bookworm but sadly I haven’t read any of those listed above. Yes, not even lord of the rings. :( I know, I know. ‘Call yourself a bookworm?’

However, I’m an uber-super-gigantic Warriors nerd. I feel sorry for Bumblestripe: the cat who exists to get his heart broken. Sigh. Also, age difference is a huge problem. Among other huge problems. Sigh again. It’s completely messed up but I still love it. Also i may create a thread just to rant about Warriors. Oh well.

Nheo(my Captcha) says aipf. What does that even mean? aipf? What? Pat pat. (Patting Nheo on the head) Whatever go eat the backyard or whatever you Captchas do.

I'm Caramel Star and I just started yesterday! I'm in love with anything Rick Riordan, macaroni, and blue. I'm a vegetarian, but I still eat animal products. I LOOOOOOOVE Cricket, and I like to read, write, draw, act, sing, and dance. I also like riding horses. I really like the new issue, minus the bird stuff (I have a bird phobia). My favorite part was The Orb. It made me think about what my future may hold. I've always wanted to be a teacher, author, or activist for human rights. I could be a authoor spreading awareness about different people and how thier lives are differ from us.

p. s. : My captcha says kind, and my motto is Choose Kind! Maybe I'm supposed to be a Activist!

Welcome, Caramel Star! I'm vegetarian also. I never properly introduced myself, so here goes!

My name is Soren Infinity, but I go by Soren. I love reading, writing, Harry Potter, video gaming, singing, and drumming. I play two sports: soccer and cross country. I am a tomboy and a weirdo, with a complex personality. This place rocks.

Hi, I'm Zeus. I've been here for almost two years, but I don't really post much except once in a while when my girl problems overwhelm me. I love Tolkien, because Lord of the Rings is awesome, but I'm also a big T.H. White fan. I like Guenever in particular from "The Once and Future King." Who's your favorite character in his King Arthur books?

I don't play harp, unfortunately. However, if this redeems me, I speak fluent French. I think it's really cool that you speak Russian! I'd love to learn someday!

It's nice to meet you, and I hope you enjoy the Chatterbox!

Naming favorite fictional characters tends to present an indomitable challenge for me, but I'll give it a whirl: my favorite Once and Future King character is Arthur. For various reasons.
