PJO Fanfic? SPOILERS ABOUND, PLEEEASE BE WARNED.
This fanfic is set AFTER Blood of Olympus, which is the tenth book (technically, the 5th book in the second series, Heroes of Olympus). I hadn't read Trials of Apollo when I started writing this, so consider this an alternative to Trials of Apollo. xD
I'm going to post 3 chapters to start, but then it's one chapter a week--probably uploaded on Tuesdays or Sundays.
Guess me! (if you're in the cabin, no fairs xD)
I
Jason
It had been a week since the battle of Gaea.
The burials were completed. All the campers were putting on brave faces and continuing on with their lives.
Jason was still in shock.
He had lost one of his best friends in the battle. Leo Valdez. He had sacrificed himself to make sure Gaea was slain.
“Jason!” Came a sharp voice. Jason yelped and ducked as Clarisse La Rue swung her sword above his head, just barely missing his hair. “What are you doing?”
Slowly, he came back to his surroundings. He was in the middle of sword fighting class at Camp Half-Blood. But of course, he got matched up with the most ruthless girl in the Ares cabin, Clarisse.
Clang! Jason held up his sword as Clarisse swung again, and the two blades clashed together. Sparks flew off of his sword and he gritted his teeth.
Focus, Jason, he told himself. You have to get out of the past. You’re here now.
He began to push more offensively, swinging and slashing as Clarisse parried every single blow. When she attempted to attack, Jason saw his opening and went for it. As she swung high, he ducked low and slid between her feet. She twirled around, but Jason’s blade was already at her neck.
“Checkmate.” He whispered. Clarisse scowled and Jason sheathed his blade. He walked back over to the small group as the counselor spoke.
“Class dismissed.”
“Nicely done,” Piper said softly.
“Thanks,” Jason responded. She sounded upset, and Jason didn’t like it. “What’s wrong?”
“What’d you mean?”
“You know what I mean. You sound upset.”
“I just…” Piper looked down at the ground. “Hazel gave up.” Jason’s breath caught slightly. Hazel and Nico were the only two children of Hades at the camp, and they had both felt Leo’s death. Nico had given up hope the day it happened, but Hazel was stubborn. She knew something was different about this death. But if she had given up hope…
“Oh,” Jason said quietly. The two of them stopped walking and the crowd flooded to the mess hall around them. They stood in the middle of camp, staring at the sky for a few moments.
Just as Jason turned to go to the mess hall, a flash of gold caught his eye. He pulled his eyes back up to the sky.
“Did... Did you see that?” Piper asked shakily.
“Yeah. What…?”
“I don’t know.” The two of them scanned the horizon furiously, but they didn’t see anything that could’ve caused that gold glint. Then, a whoop tore through the air. Piper jumped and Jason grabbed the hilt of his sword.
“What was that?!” Piper hissed. Jason made a shushing motion with his free hand.
Suddenly, a huge golden blob flew in front of the sun. Jason squinted and tried to make out what it was.
Piper gasped just as he realized.
“How is...is that Festus?!” She cried.
And sitting on top of the golden blur were two humanoid shapes.
II
Annabeth
Annabeth couldn’t believe her ears. If Chiron himself had come to tell her, it might’ve been different.
“He did what?”
“Percy had a fight with Jason…?”
Annabeth was very confused. “When?”
“In sword-fighting class.” Annabeth’s eyebrows dropped.
“I swear, Connor Stoll, when I get my hands on you--!” Connor ran out the Athena cabin before she had a chance to finish. Blowing her blonde bangs out of her face, she looked back down at the blueprints and plans sitting in front of her. The pictures seemed to only get more complex the more she looked at them. Annabeth heaved a sigh of frustration and shoved the papers out of the way. She folded her arms on the desk and lay her head on top of them. Just a few more minutes before dinner…
“Annabeth!!!” Her head rocketed off the desk.
“What, Percy, what?!” She cried.
“You better come see this!!” His eyes were wild and it looked as though he’d run a thousand miles.
“Okay, okay, I’m coming!” She bumped into the table in her haste to get up and winced. Pain shot through her ankle. She limped out the door, following an urgent Percy.
The camp looked completely normal. She squinted, but the only people she saw were Jason and Piper, staring straight up at the sky. Everyone else must've been in the mess hall already.
“I don’t see any--”
“Look up,” Percy said sharply. Annabeth glanced up and nearly fell over backward. A golden dragon was flying in front of the sun.
She stumbled backward and hit the wall of the Athena cabin. “F-Festus?” She stuttered.
“Seems like it.” Percy said. He sounded just as astonished as she was.
“But...but that’s impossible. I’ve done the math, there’s no way--”
“Annabeth!” Piper cried. Annabeth tore her eyes down to the slope below, where Jason and Piper were waving them over. Percy charged down the slope and Annabeth followed at a normal human being’s pace.
“How…?” Was all Annabeth could say.
“The cure.” Percy muttered.
“What?” Jason asked sharply.
“That’s right, you weren’t there,” Percy said.
“Leo basically stole the cure and gave me a fake one Hazel created,” Piper clarified. Jason’s brow knit. “I’ll explain more later.”
“Guys!!” Came an exhilarated shout. Annabeth whirled around and Hazel stood in front of the Hades cabin, waving frantically. She was dragging Nico by the arm. Nico looked completely in awe.
“What in Hades?!” A cry from behind. Annabeth turned around and there was Frank.
“It’s Leo.” She whispered. “He’s back. Against all odds, he’s back.”
III
Nico
It was impossible.
It should’ve been impossible.
But it obviously wasn’t.
Unless it wasn’t Leo.
Nico had just been sitting in his cabin when Hazel burst through the doors of the cabin.
“Nico, you’d better come see this!” She’d cried.
“What is it?” He asked. He wasn’t too worried. Hazel always got worried about the littlest things.
“Festus.”
“WHAT?” He cried.
“Ugh, you’re impossible! Come on!!” She pulled his arm and tugged him outside. He stared at the golden dragon covering the sun.
“What in Hades?” He muttered.
“What in Hades?!” Someone mimicked. He glanced down and noticed Frank, a little bit away from the rest of the group. Hazel tugged Nico down the hill just in time to hear Annabeth say”He’s back. Against all odds, he’s back.”
“Unless it’s not L--” He began, but Frank cut him off.
“Dude. Don’t.” He glared at Nico. Nico raised his hands up.
“Sorry, man.”
“Boys, stop. Look, it’s coming down!” Piper cried.
Sure enough, the gold dragon swooped down low, and Nico heard a jubilant cry as it passed. “Who would play such a prank?” He murmured. Frank shot him a warning look.
Thwump!--
The dragon landed.
Nico and his friends all ran down the hill to meet the moment of truth.
“L-Leo?” Hazel stuttered.
Festus’ wing folded, and sure enough, there sat a giddily grinning Leo and a nervous-looking young woman.
“Hey guys.” He said softly. For a moment, no one moved. Nico took in Leo.
For someone that had died and come back to life, he didn’t look half bad. Sure, his clothes were basically in tatters, and his face was bruised and covered in soot, but his eyes sparkled and his cheeks dimpled, just like they used to.
Leo slid off Festus. Still, no one spoke. “Guys?” He whispered, still grinning.
Annabeth squealed and raced towards him, pulling him into a hug. Leo looked taken aback for a moment, before he smiled even wider and hugged her back. Hazel, Frank, Piper, Jason, and Percy all moved in to hug him as well. But Nico hung back. He still didn’t trust this boy. How did he know it was Leo, that it wasn’t a trick of the Mist? And even if it was Leo, this boy had sacrificed himself for Gaea. Who’s to say he wouldn’t do the same to any of them?
Leo hugged them all. Then he noticed Nico, and pushed out of the group. He stepped in front of Nico, staring him straight in the eye.
Nico stared straight back. They stood completely motionless for a few minutes before Nico let out a small gasp. It really was Leo.
Leo started laughing and pulled Nico into a hug. Nico didn’t hug back. He was too shocked.
“L-Leo?” He stuttered out.
“That’s my name!” The boy crowed.
“But how? I-I don’t understand--”
The doors of the mess hall banged open. Leo pulled away from Nico, and stood, grinning sheepishly. Everyone was silent for a moment.
Then Clarisse pushed to the front of the crowd and squinted across the road. “It’s him.” She said, a smile splitting her face. The campers whooped and cheered as they charged down the road, anxious to meet Leo. Leo’s eyes widened slightly as the mob rushed towards him, and Nico fought back a laugh. It didn’t stay down. Nothing happy could.
Not with Leo back.

Nice, I- whoops. I forgot I'm in the Cabin, so I guess no faires, apparently XD
I love it! You portrayed Nico perfectly! All of them, for that matter, but I think Nico would be the most difficult. I don't know if you want constructive critiscism or not, but one thing that seemed slightly off to me was the use of the word, "Blob" in the sentance, "Suddenly, a giant gold blob flew in front of the sun." Maybe it could be a giant gold sphere? Or a giant gold...erm...circle?
Otherwise, keep it up! I can't wait to read more!! ; ) (Agatha says 'happ'. Apparently, reading your fanfic makes her happy XD)
(March 20, 2018 - 5:37 pm)
Thanks, Vyolette!
Haha, yeah. It's just, I literally told you guys I was about to do it lol
Thank you! Yeah, Nico is difficult. I normally end up listening to my "moody music" when I'm writing him. XD
Sure, constructive criticsm is fine. Thanks for the note. :3
Well, I'm glad Agatha thinks so, but I must say, I don't think it will for much longer... >:)

This is great! Can't wait to read more!

Thanks Quill! I'll release another chapter on the 22nd, and then it's on to the schedule I mentioned. :D

Leo
He was back.
Leo McShizzle Bad Boy Supreme was back.*
And boy, was he glad!
As the mob of campers ran straight at him, Leo froze. That was a LOT of kids. Then, they were there. Clamoring over him and the others, asking crazy questions, and trying to catch him up on what he’d missed.
Leo glanced back over at Festus, and noticed Calypso sitting awkwardly on top. But just as he tried to quiet the crowd to tell them about her, a boy shouted.
“You!!” Leo winced and turned around to see Percy, pointing straight at Calypso. Her face paled as the crowd parted to let the reunion happen.
“You.” She hissed. “You left me.”
“You don’t understand,” Percy said quickly. “I had a quest, and--”
“A girlfriend.” Calypso’s eyes burned. “I do understand.”
Percy gulped. “That wasn’t it--”
Leo stepped in quickly. “Guys, let’s not bicker--”
“No, Leo, Percy’s right. We should discuss this now, while we’re all together.”
“No, we shouldn’t,” Leo said. “This is meant to be private--”
“Private?” Calypso crowed. “Why should it be? Let everyone know how Perseus Jackson--”
Percy gritted his teeth. “Don’t. Call me. Perseus.”
“Why not?” Calypso crooned.
“Guys,” Leo was getting concerned. “I made an oath to Calypso--” A small squeak from his friends interrupted him and Leo glanced over. Piper’s face was pale and her hands were over her mouth.
“An oath to keep with a final breath.” She whispered. “Leo, you…” She trailed off, staring horrified at Leo.
Her stare hurt more than Calypso fighting with Percy. She looked at him as though he was a traitor.
“Piper, I-I had to.” Leo tried to defend himself.
“You know you didn’t.”
“Leave the boy alone,” spoke another voice. Leo looked with alarm at Nico. Nico? Son of Hades? Standing up for Leo?
“Some prophecies can’t be avoided,” Nico said firmly, looking straight at Piper.
A silence fell over the crowd. (Nico often had that effect, Leo realized.) Heads pivoted between Calypso, Leo, Percy, Nico, and Piper.
“Well. All of this is beside the point.” Leo forced a grin. Humor. His best tactic. “Point is, Calypso’s here now. And I was hoping she’d stay…?” He glanced hopefully up at Calypso.
Her eyes were hard as she looked over the crowd. Then she met Leo’s eyes. They had a silent battle for a few minutes before her eyes narrowed, but they were softer.
“Fine,” She whispered. She cleverly avoided Percy’s eyes as she slid off Festus’ back. The quiet returned and Leo’s hands twitched.
“So,” Percy cleared his throat.
“How about dinner?” Leo suggested quickly. The entire crowd murmured in agreement and everyone began moving back towards the mess hall. Eventually, the only people left outside were Leo and his friends.
“Leo.” Percy began.
“Save it,” Leo said, a little sharper than he’d intended. “I’m glad I’m back.” He looked around the small group. “Let’s not ruin it for once, ‘kay?” He waited for an answer, but when he got none, he pivoted on his heel and walked towards the mess hall.

I like it! Only one question, and it's been a while since I read the series so please refresh my memory if something needs refreshing: Why is Piper upset?
(March 22, 2018 - 3:35 pm)
This is some of the best fanfic I've read in a while. It's very close to Riordan's style, and captures his characters fairly realistically. It doesn't quite work with Trials of Apollo, but I think that I like this better. TOA (as opposed to whatever the correct acronym is) goes in a strange direction with the story, and I didn't like the first one at all, but the second one was good. Looking forward to more of this!
I'm with Vyolette, why is Piper upset again? Maybe it's just because I haven't read the books in a while. Actually, it's definitely because of that.
(March 22, 2018 - 5:09 pm)
Thank you very much! And you're right, ToA is the correct acronym ;)
I'm reading them right now. I didn't like the first one much either. I'm about 1/3 through the second, and it's okay, but I still think Heroes of Olympus (HOO) is my favorite miniseries.
Haha, don't worry. See above. ;)
(March 23, 2018 - 10:49 am)
That will be explained later. Mainly though, I took it as--
How dare you. xD
(March 23, 2018 - 10:48 am)
To the tippity toppity, just like my namity!

V
Percy
As Leo limped off to the mess hall, Percy inwardly kicked himself. How could he be so stupid? The small group stood quietly in shock for a moment, before Hazel squeaked out.
“He was limping.” No one else spoke, so Hazel walked off towards the building. Annabeth, Piper, Nico, and Jason followed her.
Now it was just Percy, Calypso and Frank.
They stood silent for a moment before Frank clapped Percy on the shoulder. Percy stiffened. “Well, mate. You’ve really stepped in it this time.” Frank strode off towards food.
Wincing slightly, Percy turned to Calypso. The girl was still avoiding his eyes. Percy opened his mouth to talk, but Calypso spoke first.
“Save it.”
“Calypso... I can’t believe you.” Percy’s sorrow turned to anger.
She looked up at him sharply. “Pardon? Can’t believe me?”
“Yes, you. I can’t believe you cursed me the way you did.”
Her face darkened. “First of all, Perseus. You’re the one who left me, not the other way around. I think my curse was granted.” She was quiet and let that sink in for a moment before continuing. “And second of all...how did you even know about my curse?” She hissed.
Percy averted his eyes. “I’ve had...some adventures since I left your island,” He replied coldly.
Calypso’s eyes narrowed, but she didn’t press him. Finally, Percy couldn’t take it any longer and he met her eyes.
“Tartarus. That’s how I know, Calypso.” Her eyes widened in shock and her mouth opened slightly. “Yes. I went to Tartarus and yes, I survived. Thanks to Annabeth, who, by the way, you should congratulate for surviving your curse.” Her eyes widened even more, but Percy was on a roll. He pressed on.
“Oh yes. After she was blinded by a different curse, I slew the monster trying to attack her. And do you know how it repaid me?” He took a step forward and Calypso stepped back, horrified. “By cursing Annabeth. With your curse.”
He let it sink in. Percy was tempted to push further, and he probably would have had Nico not opened the door of the hall at that very moment and called to Percy. Percy waved back and sent one last glare to Calypso.
“So yeah. You’re welcome.” He hissed and stalked off to the mess hall.
Percy sat alone once again at the Poseidon table. He looked around the room. The Hermes and Apollo cabins were cracking jokes to each other. The Athena and Hephaestus cabins were both intently studying separate blueprints and plans. The Aphrodite and Ares cabins stayed mainly to themselves. Jason sat alone at the Zeus table, chatting across the row to an Athena kid. Hazel and Nico were deep in conversation with each other at the Hades table. Yes, Camp Half-Blood was finally running as normal.
Then why did Percy feel so out-of-place?
He was so deep in thought that he didn’t realize someone was standing next to him until they tapped him on the shoulder. Percy jumped and looked up into the face of Leo Valdez.
His heart sank into his shoes, but he forced a smile onto his face. “Yeah, Leo?”
The other boy was quiet for a moment, as if he were silently scanning Percy. Percy noticed that since his return, Leo had seemed...older. Not wiser necessarily, but more mature and eternally sorrowful.
Finally, Leo sighed. “I know your relationship with Calypso is...strained.”
“You could say that,” Percy muttered under his breath.
“But try to get along. Please? If not for her sake, for mine?: Percy was quiet for a moment. Leo stared hesitantly at him.
Eventually, Percy spoke. “I’m over Calypso. I’m just...worried for you.” Leo’s eyes hardened and Percy mentally kicked himself. He really needed to learn how to keep his mouth shut sometimes.
“Me? I think I can take care of myself, Percy.” Leo said.
“That girl is nothing but trouble, Leo. The curse ensures that. Just…” Percy sighed. “Be careful, okay?”
“Gladly,” Leo said stiffly.
Percy was so fed up that he stood up from the table. “I think I liked you better dead.” He said. Leo took a step back and his face looked like he’d been slapped. The entire mess hall was silent. Percy glanced around the horrified faces before looking back at Leo. He almost regretted it. The boy’s face was a mixture of how could you? and I hate you! Percy couldn’t take it any longer. He stomped out of the building. It was like Nico all over again.
And he’d just lost another friend.
Geez Percy, learn to control your temper! ;)

This is wonderful! You portray all the characters so well, and I agree with Waffleson, I think I like this better than ToA. Can't wait to read more!
(March 26, 2018 - 2:50 pm)
Love it! I can totally see Percy saying all that xD Can't wait for the next part!

New part tomorrow!
