Chatterbox: Inkwell

Once there was a girl. She was 12 years old, had no parents (that she knew of), and lived with her Aunt Doe. Her name was Gemma, and she was a sweet, caring, young girl. She had quite a few friends, but her best friend’s name was Reagan. Gemma and Reagan did everything together. They went shopping, had sleepovers, and did many other things. Whenever one of them was sad (which, most of the time, was Gemma, but we’ll get back to that later) they always cheered one another up. Now, why Gemma got sad sometimes was her parents. They had abandoned her 12 years ago, right after she was born. Of course, her aunt was very sweet and caring and loving to her, but it just wasn’t the same as having parents, which, of course, made her sad. It would make anyone sad, wouldn’t it? Anyways, Gemma lived in an apartment in the city. Reagan lived in the same building. They always walked together after school, and today was no different. The girls walked up the street, talking and laughing, until they got to the lobby and parted ways. Gemma took the stairs to the fourth floor, while Reagan took the elevator to the sixth. When Gemma arrived at her apartment, her aunt was just taking some cookies out of the oven. “Hello, sweetie! How was your day?” she asked. “Oh, it was alright. Same as usual.” Gemma replied. Since she didn’t have any homework, she went to her room to text Reagan to ask if she could come over. When she got to er room, there was a small brown box lying on her bed. She picked it up and opened it. Inside, there was a note. This is what it said:

Dear Gemma,

It is time that we told you the truth.

We, your parents, are from another world called Aero. This is an alternate world where everybody has magical powers. Right when you were born we knew that you were different, and sure enough, you were. You see, your powers were different from most. They were the extremely rare powers of flight and shapeshifting. It is already extremely rare to have 2 powers, let alone rare ones at that. We knew that bad people would come after you, so we sent you to live with your Aunt Doe, telling her that we were not ready to have a child. You cannot let anyone else know of your abilities, or this note. Never forget that we love you, and hope that we can be reunited someday.

Love,

Mom & Dad

P.S:

To activate your powers, you must focus only on the one thing you want to become, or do.

Gemma stood there, shocked. How could a thing like this possibly be real? There was only one way to find out: to test it.
