Theatre Troupe Roleplay!
Theatre Troupe Roleplay!
Welcome to Bardswood Theatre Company, a well-known theatrical guild inside one of the world's biggest Renaissance Faires, Castlefest!
Oy vey, is that really what they picked? Castlefest?
Yes, now pipe down, Brynn.
The theatre troupe is widely regarded as one of the best improv and Shakespeare performance houses in the nation; or, at least, in Oregon. Maybe just the best in North Haverford, Oregon. Regardless, it's happy to welcome you into the fold!
In the roleplay, we are all actors in this troupe, trying to put on a fantasy play called Lyre's Heart. I made the play up, whoop!
But there's something odd about Lyre's Heart. Something... out of this world.
SUMMARY: Basically, a bunch of stage actors are sucked into the world of Lyronia, where they gain the powers and abilities of their characters and have to fight a villain (who looks AWFULLY familiar.) The password is SPIDERS, btw!
RULES:
One character per person.
Shipping is very open!
I'm making a director character, who will assign your parts in the play and speed the plot along.
One of you, and ONLY ONE, will get to be the villain.
PLEASE POST AT LEAST ONCE EVERY TWO DAYS!
USE CORRECT SPELLING AND GRAMMAR!
YOU CAN put a preference for which part you get, but THAT DOESN'T MEAN YOU'LL GET IT!
CHARACTERS IN "LYRE'S HEART":
THE KNIGHT: A brave warrior (can be male or female!) who wields an enchanted, magical blade. Is strong, brave, and a bit full of him/herself. Likes to play the hero a bit too much. I'm not going to make these TOO detailed, because I want to leave room for customization.
THE CROWNBEARER: A prince/princess (male or female), the knight's ~love interest~, a beautiful/handsome person who, despite appearances of helplessness, is a talented hand-to-hand warrior. Snarky and a bit vain. Cool in a crisis.
THE MAGE OF FLORA: A strong mage who wields the power of plants (a la Poison Ivy from Batman). Is feisty and not "flowery" in the least. Almost never lowers her/his voice. Has a hard time controlling her powers.
THE WIELDER OF STORMS: A lightning mage who is... surprisingly levelheaded, ironically. Smart and responsible, yet overprotective of others. Often has a hard time accessing/using his/her powers.
THE FOX: A mysterious mercenary aiding the team, with a throwing knife and a sneer that can curdle milk. Sneaky and somewhat unnerving. Perhaps the shadows almost constantly around them give that affect.
THE VILLAIN: The Flame, a fearsome enemy sorceror/ess with the power of fire at his or her fingertips. Wants to (rather predicatbly) destroy mankind and usher in a new age of wrath and fire.
Charrie Sheet:
Name: Brynn Wilkes
Gender: F
Part you most want: Lightning Mage (note: I am picking the parts, so don't get your heart set on being the lightning mage. It'll probably be me.)
Part you second most want: Mercenary
Part you third most want: Prince/Princess
Part you fourth most want: Knight
Personality: A bit of a busybody, but means well. Clever, too nosy for her own good, and booksmart rather than streetsmart. Firmly a skeptic! She doesn't believe in magic or anything like that. She's the director in the theater troupe, and the group's organizer.
Appearance: Pale brown hair in a messy bun, glasses, grayish-blue eyes. Has warm, slightly tanned skin and chapped lips from her biting habit. Wears baggy sweaters and old jeans. Doesn't take very good care of herself. A cynic and critic by nature.
A quote they could be heard saying: "If aliens exist, they won't visit us. We're pretty awful, as a species."
(January 2, 2018 - 5:33 pm)
Well here is my charrie if you can bend the rules a little bit and let me maybe not always be able to post at least every two days...
Name: Eileen Mariner
Gender: F
part you most want: The Fox
Part you second most want: The Wielder of Storms
Part you third most want: The Princess of Flora
Part you fourth most want: The Knight
Personality: Reserved, to the point, seemingly rather aloof, has trust issues, stubborn, hates to be in the spotlight, brave but not in it to show off and play the hero, loyal to close friends, doesn't loose her cool easily but when she's mad, she's MAD, can be quite sarcastic when she wants to be, kinda soft-spoken, althletic and adept at stealth, very observant and clever
Appearance: Long, straight, dirty blond hair that she usually has down but sometimes does in a side braid, diagonal bangs with jagged edges that have dyed pale blue tips and often get in her eyes, ice-blue eyes, her glares are NOT to be trifled with, usually wears all black and sometimes gray
A quote they could be heard saying: "It's not always about the showy heroics in movies and stuff in the real world. Sometimes the behind the scenes stuff is what matters most."
(January 3, 2018 - 1:14 pm)
Will: Prince of Flora
Jackson: The Fox
Brynn: Wielder of Storms
Alexia: The Brawler
Penelope: The Knight
Adrianna: The Flame Queen
@Everyone: I’ll start us off soon! Please be patient.
@Danie: Can Brynn and Will be shipped?
@Aspen: You can join; want to be a villain?
ARACHNAI: The master of spiders and The Flame Queen’s right hand woman.
(January 3, 2018 - 2:59 pm)
Sure! Though, as a warning, he's a huge stick in the mud.
(January 3, 2018 - 7:08 pm)
It took me a minute to figure out what you meant, but I do really like spiders!
I don't think I'm going to ship my character with anyone and force them to have feelings, but rather let the roleplay decide who she ends up growing attracted too! It would be really fun to have a slowly developing ship with Penelope, because, even if she did like some one, it would take a lot of time for her to act on it.
So , that being said, she's single for now ;)
Whooo! I am really execited. I haven't roleplayed in aggess.
(January 3, 2018 - 5:42 pm)
Ummm, yeah, a villain's fine, if it's a conflicted one. But can my charrie not be Arachnai? I really, REALLY hate spiders. Here's my idea for a different villain:
The Shadow Whisperer: Dark matter powers, the daughter of the Flame Queen, next in command after Arachnai.
(January 3, 2018 - 7:15 pm)
Ohh, really, that sounds great. Hmm, looks like the Flame’s questionable backstory will have a bit of romance in it.
(January 3, 2018 - 9:32 pm)
Aspen, you can make your own villain, but please no shadow-based powers.
Danie, sticks in the mud are my jam!

Alex
I arrive at the theatre at about the same time that Will and Jackson do, walking in into the room just behind them. I'm wearing a cap like the one Eponine has in Les Mis, a red jacket over a white t shirt that say "In the Heights" on it, black leggings, and some old sneakers that I've worn for at least a year. Will, as usual, is impeccably well dressed and incredibly full of himself, wearing a smirk that says that he thinks he is better than us, and a suit that says the same. Jackson's taller than he is, but the way he slouches doesn't make it seem that way. His ripped, baggy jeans and gray t shirt contrast starkly with Will's nicely pressed suit. They seem like complete opposites, but there's one thing they share - a sly, calculating look, like they're both thinking about what they could get out of this.
I, personally, love theatre too much to care about whether it pays anything much. Though I am better off than Jackson is, I still struggle to pay the bills and support myself. I have a couple of extra jobs on the side that I can fall back on if things get rough, but I'm still getting by. I won’t lie though - it can be pretty exhausting, and sometimes I wish I could have found a passion in being a doctor, or something else that pays a lot of money and makes your life easier.
“Hey guys”, I say as I walk in. They look up and acknowledge my presence, but besides a muttered greeting from each of them, I don’t get much of a response. Will begins swiping through his phone as I sit cross legged in one of the chairs. I’ve known Will for a little while now - we’ve both been in the theatre troupe for a couple of years. We’ve gotten into a couple of arguments since then, but nothing too bad. He certainly gives me a challenge. Jackson is the most recent addition to the group, but I still haven’t decided what to make of him yet. A few minutes later, Adrianna arrives. Quiet as ever, she walks over and sits next to me, and we talk for a little, until finally Brynn walks in.
“Hey Brynn. Glad you could make it”, I greet.
“Thanks”, she replies.
Brynn and I have been pretty good friends since I met her when I joined the troupe. Though she can be a little anxious at times, she’s very smart and actually pretty cool.
Once Penny and Eileen arrive, completing our group, Brynn sits in front of us and announces the play - something called Lyre’s Heart, which I’d never heard of. It sounds very interesting though. All of the sudden, she pauses. She squints and looks closer at the paper, then frowns and shows the character list to us.
PRINCE WILLIAM FLORENCE
KNIGHT PENELOPE LIONHEART
WIZARD BRYNN THUNDRAN
WARRIOR ALEXIA ARMSTRONG
MERCENARY JACKSON KITSOR
ADRIANNA WRATHSBANE, THE FLAME QUEEN
EILEEN WRATHSBANE, HER DAUGHTER
“That’s… odd. Very odd,” I say. It must be a trick. Brynn probably put our names in to confuse us and play a joke on us. There’s no way that they’re there as a coincidence.
"Do you want to..." Brynn started, looking confused.
"Sure, why not?" said Adrianna.
“Flames may come to claim our land,” Will began, saying his part.
“But we will do our part…” continued Penny.
“To smite our foes…” I continue, going along with it.
“Protect our friends…” Jackson added.
“And rescue Lyre’s Heart!” finished Brynn.
Suddenly a horrible shrieking sound ripped around the room. Everyone winces and coveres their ears as a gold light begins to shine from the book. I freeze as a snaking tendril of light latches onto me and pulls me towards the book. I try to fight back but it’s futile, and the last thing I see are the other’s horrified faces as we are all dragged into the book and everything goes black.
~~~~~~~~~~
When I open my eyes, my shoulder is throbbing. I must have fallen on it. I sit up and rub at it until the pain subsides, and then look around, thoughts confused and blurry. I start in shock as I realize that we are no longer in the theatre. I’m underneath a tree, the others slumped around me in various states of consciousness and strange costumes. What just happened?
~~~~~~~~~~
Sorry that didn't advance the plot too much. I spent a lot of time on the beginning and by then there wasn't much time to work on the end. I can't wait to read your posts! (Also, hooray for snow days!)
(January 4, 2018 - 2:55 pm)
Oh this is going to be fun!
But penny doesn't skip our bounce, really. She's not like that at all, but its alright! I'll write a post to portray her today or tommorow. :)

Penelopy~
Penelope was extremely excited for the theatre group meeting. She looked forward to it every time they got together, and her heart warmed at the thought of friends. Not all of them knew her very well, but there was Brynn and...well, Brynn. They had known eachother for a very long time, and their relationship had it's ups and downs, but they fought through it all to come out on the other side. Brynn was one of the few people who really got to know Penny when she was comfortable, even her theatre troupe didn't really get to experience that.
She had been trying to reach out, in her own shy kind of way. Her attempts at making friends usually involved cookies, and little to no actual interactions. But something tingled at her spine today, just like the cold weather stung her cheeks and nipped at her nose. Maybe this time she would really be able to connect with these people. Glancing at the necklace in her hand, she smiled to herself. It was for Brynn, and Penny had made it herself. She could be a little creative when she wanted too.
The theatre was dead ahead, and her happy high immediately faded. She surveyed the misty world outside, and then opened the door. The theatre was much warmer then the outdoors, and the sudden fear that had taken place moments ago temorarily subsided. The door opened behind her and she stepped out of the way to see Eileen, smiling nervously. Oops, she hadn't even noticed Eileen behind her.
Penny took a deep breath and went to greet Brynn, giving her a brief hug and sliding the necklace into her hand. She grinned, feeling a bit better. Giving gifts always made her happy. She tried her best to act comfortable in the presence of others, but panic rose within her when the character cast was revealed.
PRINCE WILLIAM FLORENCE
KNIGHT PENELOPE LIONHEART
WIZARD BRYNN THUNDRAN
WARRIOR ALEXIA ARMSTRONG
MERCENARY JACKSON KITSOR
ADRIANNA WRATHSBANE, THE FLAME QUEEN
EILEEN WRATHSBANE, HER DAUGHTER
Gulping, she met Brynn's gaze with wide blue eyes. Either Brynn was playing a joke, or something wasn't right. But, feeling the hairs raise on her arms she felt her panic rise again. Her body told her this situation was fishy, but she took a copy of the script and read her line with as much confidence as she could muster.
"But we will do our part..." For a brief moment, she filled with courage and strength, but it faded as they went on. Penny took a deep breath and tuned back in to reality.
"To rescuse Lyre's Heart!" As soon as Byrnn finish, crippling fear overtook Penny. She didn't have time to register what was happening before her own eyes before a slither of light wrapped around her wrist and began to pull. There wasn't enough time to fight back before the light went dark.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When Penny awoke again, she felt vigorated and full of energy. She shot up to her feet with a start, bewildered at her agility. Her body pulsed with strength, and she felt as if she could run a full day without stopping. The warm breeze on her face was a stark contrast to the cold air of home.
Home.
Where the bloody heck was she?!
The others lay sprawled around a twisted, knarly old tree, staring to their feet with the same look of surprise she had. Each wore various forms of strange getup, and she looked down at her own. Dressed in protective armor, she rotated her limbs to test it out. Something soft was on her skin, seperating it from the heavy chainmail, which was partially covered by a loose leather shirt. Her legs had thick leggings on them, and her boots went up to her knees with iron around the edges.
All of the clothing she had piled on was actually quite comfortable, but she still felt sweaty and groteque. Her long hair was sun-bleached, and her skin covered in freckles. Penny put her hands on her hips and glanced to the side, her braid barely swinging even in the breeze. She felt strong, and confident.
But also like she really needed a bath. This many layers even in an average warmth was crazy.
Eyes widening, she looked back to the others. This was crazy! Worrying about clothing and armor was ridiculous, they needed to figure out what had happened! She walked around, mentally checking off people.
Will, Alexia, Jackson, Brynn....
Brynn was already up and her gears were turning. Penny sidestepped over to Brynn, her panic rising. "Where is Eileen and Adrianna?" They weren't here!
The others realized this too, and jumped to their feet in surprise. Will was here, dressed up like a prince. Realization dawned upon Penny. Will was the prince in the script, and she was the knight!
Which meant Brynn was a wizard.
Jackson was a mercenary.
Alexia was a warrior.
All of these things made sense, once Penny took a step back and looked at the overall group. But this also meant that Adrianna and Eileen were the villains!
Penny took a deep breath and sat down, staring at her shaking hands. What were they to do? What had even happened? Where were they? Well, they were in the play, by some miracle or another, but how did they get home? She clasped her hands together and willed herself to calm down. She was supposedly the knight, right? Brave, strong, kind and chivalrous.
Ah, baloney.
This is going to be fun! Huehuehue
(January 4, 2018 - 8:50 pm)
Oo, exciting!
Also, I'm deciding to take a break from 3rd person, So 1st person it is!
Will~
I find myself laying on cold ground, hair over my face and my clothing feeling... Different. As I breathe in the clear and fresh air, I look around to see that Brynn's laying down next to me. She gives me a look of confusion before immediately getting up.
"Wha...What?" Brynn's doing her best to comprehend the situation. "How the heck did this happen?"
I get up, dusting off my coat, before realizing I don't have a coat on anymore. Is this a freaking tunic? Looking over to Brynn, I see that she's even wearing different clothing. A blue wizard robe.
"Where the heck did you get that book from?" I shout at Brynn, pulling at my hair. She backs away slightly. "What did it do to us? Where are we?"
"I don't know!" Brynn holds up a palm, looking around calmly. "Please relax. Let's just find the others."
I nod slightly, massaging my temples. Mimicking Brynn, I search the area, which I realize is a forest. A pretty big one, by the looks of it, and much different from the ones at home. I also notice the others scattered around, some of them slowly beginning to get up. Brushing off my strange attire one last time, I make my way toward them.
"Is this some sort of insane joke one of you put on?" I can barely contain my anger, crossing my arms frustratedly. "Because you either have too much time on your hands or too much money."
Penny ignores me and races over to Brynn with fear. "Where's Eileen and Adrianna?" I realize that in fact, they weren't to be found.
I sigh. "Okay, well, either way, I think its best we get out of this forest and near some civilization."
"And where would that be?" Jackson looks at me, still looking fairly serious. "There's forest everywhere."
"Have any better ideas, Fessler?" I snap, striding over to him and lifting myself to my full height. "Because frankly, I don't think stealing is going to be a great idea this time."
He opens his mouth to say something, but Brynn shushes him. Lifting a finger to her lip, I watch as she looks around with narrowed eyes. With our silence, I'm able to hear something a little ways away. Its the sound of Rustling, and then some quick barks. The flutter of birds flying into the air accompany it a few seconds later.
"What was that?" Penny shifts uncomfortably in her outfit, making a clanking noise as she moves into a defensive position. She's wearing medieval armor, and she also holds... A sword. With my thoughts preoccupied on this, I'm not able to focus on the noise grows louder. Then as quick as lightning, I watch in amazement and horror as five wolves jump out of the bushes. But monstrous wolves, too large to be real, with dripping mouths and claws that itch markings into the ground.
Almost instinctively, Brynn puts herself between the wolves and us. She lifts her palms up threateningly. Then like a flash, Penny is right behind her, wielding the sword. Does she even know how to use that? But before I'm able to even comprehend the situation, two of the wolves immediately jump onto Brynn and Penny. Brynn dodges away, while Penny manages to strike one of the wolves with her sword. It barks loudly and picks itself back up quickly.
Another wolf darts over to me, and roll rather clumsily out of the way. Adrenaline pulsing through my body, I manage to dodge it a second time before it jumps onto me. I hold up my arms in defense and wait for impact...
But it doesn't come. Opening my eyes slowly, I watch in astonishment as roots cradle my arms, barely keeping the claws off of me. I laugh loudly.
Then the shield gives way and the wolf is actually on me.
* * *
Decided we needed some action, which might give us some time to learn our powers!( Also I'm a bit rushed so like most of my posts they're probably going to be grammer mistakes.)
(January 4, 2018 - 9:12 pm)
Had a ton of homework tonight. Will post tommorow.
(January 4, 2018 - 9:34 pm)
I’d just like to point out that Alexia likes to go by Alex rather than her full name. Thanks guys!
Brynn~
Brynn whirled away as the wolf tore through the air next to her, snarling. Wolves. Not wolves. Brynn was still at home, probably slumped over a chair, having a stroke.
Her eyes widened as a burst of thorns snared a wolf as it leapt for Will. The two made eye contact, Will almost white with shock.
"Did I-" Will began.
The thorns snapped, and the wolf slammed its paws into Will's chest. Brynn threw her hands out.
Nothing.
"Come on, come on!" Brynn hissed, panic making her hands shake. Nothing happened. Will whimpered as the dog's claws dug into his shoulders, pinning him down.
And Brynn decided enough was enough.
"DUCK!" she shouted, snapping a branch off a tree.
Will shoved himself back as Brynn slammed her weapon into the wolf's head, knocking it aside. Will stood up, panting, then rounded on her.
"I thought your character was a wizard, Brynn!" he shouted, a burst of wildflowers appearing behind him. Brynn scoffed.
"None of this is real, and a thank you would be nice, you selfish trust-fund baby!" Brynn said, fists clenching. Something crackled along her hand, but when she looked down, it was gone.
Alex rammed a fist into a wolf's head as Penny drove one back with slightly wild swipes of a sword. Jackson was in a tree, cornered by the other two wolves. Brynn rolled her eyes, hefting her branch and running toward it.
Jackson practically looked bored. "Tell me, Brynn, is there anything in the water at Castlefest?"
"Almost definitely!" Brynn shouted. She slammed the branch into a wolf's head. It barked before turning on her, growling.
"Come and get it!" Brynn shouted, spinning her stick.
The second one leapt. Brynn barely dodged, cursing her robe. She hit it in the back, and it ran off, leaving her spinning just in time to block the other wolf. This wolf was the biggest of the pack: black and shaggy, with eyes like stoked embers. It bared pearly, broken teeth and backed her against the tree.
"It's not real," Brynn said, "it can't be real. It's not-"
The big one leapt. Brynn swung wildly, screaming.
The club connected with the wolf's face and shattered as lightning ripped through it, coursing into the animal as the creature jerked and writhed. The animal fell to the ground and lay, smoking.
The other wolves howled and dashed away, bruised and panicked. Brynn began to fall.
Jackson leapt down from the tree behind her and steadied her. "So... are we still hallucinating?"
"I have no idea." Brynn said. The others gave her strange looks.
"She can stand fine on her own, Jackson." Will said. Jackson snorted and let go. Brynn glared at Will. Why'd he have to say that?
"Guys, look!" Alexia called.
The alpha wolf's form shuddered and changed, as though its bones were snapping and grinding back into a new position. Hair retracted into pores.
Eileen lay there in a black robe, no recognition in her now-orange eyes.
@ASPEN: Your character can shapeshift into animals? Idk, I thought it was neat. Also, maybe she doesn't remember the group yet?
