Fantasy Short Story

Fantasy Short Story Contest. I have recently discovered my passion for writing extremely short stories. It’s fun to try to fit in character development with a single line of dialogue, or allude to a mysterious past with a simple phrase. I decided to share this love with the world. The rules of this contest are simple. I will give you a word, and you will write a fantasy story under 300 words based on the one word prompt. The deadline is wednesday, and I will judge the first round. Whoever wins gets a free, written fantasy picturing of themselves, and will judge the next round. Your prompt is Home. The story must be under 300 words, or it will be disqualified. The shorter the story, the better. Have fun!

Here's my short story. I copy-and-pasted it so the formatting migh tbe a little off.
Maya slowly walked through the dense forest, reaching out to touch the smooth white bark of the birch trees surrounding her. The ground was thickly coated in feathery snow, and dark pine trees towered above her, letting the occasional ray of bright sunlight through to light up the woods. The few birds that had chosen not to migrate chirped pleasant songs in the branches above, making Maya smile. She continued on, following the path that she had memorized, but never marked. Snowflakes began to fall around her, like ashes dancing in the breeze near a campfire. The light flakes got stuck in her golden hair and eyelashes, and the snow on the ground began to seep through her fleecy pants. The cold air stung her face and ears, but she continued on. Finally, she reached her destination. A smooth gray rock surrounded by trees of all kinds, some evergreen, some bare and lifeless, all beautiful. Maya scaled the rock with ease, quickly reaching the top and sitting down. She wrapped her arms around her knees and gazed at the beautiful wintery scene. She knew that there was life and color everywhere, but most people just didn't  take the time to look for it. Chirping birds flew above her head, the glistening snow was full of tints and shades of blue, white, and grey, and the trees added so many colors that most people would think of as dull.
Maya knew that she would never love any place as much as she loved these New Hampshire woods. With a contented sigh, she said to no one or nothing in particular, "This is home."

Kari looked out across the sea as the waves rocked the boat beneath her feet. She sighed and went beck below decks, hiking her bag up on her shoulder. Three days later as she was laying in bed staring at the wooden slats above her head, she heard a loud noise. She raced up on deck and saw a huge bird with red and gold and orange feathers. It was perched on the main mast of the ship and seemed to be waiting for something, or someone. She raced over to the bird as it lowered its head. The crew were freaking out about the fact that there was a giant bird on their ship, but Kari was completely calm as she stroked the bird’s feathers. She hoisted herself up onto it’s back in one smooth motion, waving to the crew. Finally, she thought I get to go home.

Case File #3984, Exhibit J: Transcript of Interview with Witness Teraka Soames

[Officer Davidson enters the room.]

Officer: Sorry to keep you here, miss, but--

Soames: All due respect, but shut up. The Altairans want to go home, that's all there is to it. Fine me if you like, but my little brother's depending on me to make dinner.

Officer: Are you responsible for your younger brother?

Soames: Since Mom died in custody. Hint, hint.

Officer: Noted. How old are you, may I ask?

Soames: Old enough to be his legal guardian. I said, fine me if you like. I was rowdy, I was protesting in the streets with about two thousand other Altairans who've been kept from their planet by your government. I plead guilty and all that [expletive], so will you please just let me out of here?!

Officer: Alright, alright, miss. You're not charged with anything, you're just here as a witness. As for the situation on Altair IV, I'm aware of it, and I'm afraid the planet's crust is still too--

Soames: Still too what? Full of unexploded dellurim sulfide and collapsing mine shafts and all the [expletive] your people dumped there, because you thought we weren't important?! Just fix the [expletive] planet and let us go back! It's well within your--

Officer: Miss, I'm going to have to ask you to calm down. Do you know who organized this protest?

Soames: Wouldn't tell you if I did. Heard about it from a friend.

Officer: Who is this friend?

[Long pause. Soames appears to deliberately remain silent.]

Officer: I see. Well, thank you for your time. We're processing your papers now, should be done in a few minutes.

[Officer Davidson leaves the room. Soames looks after him, then begins to weep quietly into her tail.]

sorry this is so sad guys... just kinda fit the mood of the moment.

The landscape was barren and flat. Where the crystal trees once waved in the remia, fragment breeze, rocks lacking their previous glint dotted the hard ground. Where blue-green waters had flowed, a crater dented the earth. Where the blooming quills once nested, not a sound was heard, save the sobbing of a single Juivea. Tears overflowed, tracking paths on her grime streaked face. Her small figure trembled with the heart wrenching noises that she once could not believe would be coming from her mouth. Her home was destroyed, and she hadn't been there to save it.

Anne ran as fast as she could, it was fun being an outlaw sometimes, well all the time. The queen's men ran after her. She laughed. They wouldn't catch her, she had been running since her parents had died when she was three. She was one of the most wanted outlaws, though she was only thirteen. Her satchel jangled with coins and such. She lept on to her horse, Rain-the fastest horse in all of the land. Rain ran as fast she could quickly leaving the men behind her. Anne then got off Rain and led her into a cave to spend the night. Anne slept that night with her satchel under her head. The next morning she got back on Rain's back and they started out again. But as she rode you see the point of her ears..........

My story is called "Ami Twist."

Ami woke up on a particularly special Saturday.  But she didn't know it was special yet.  It had been weeks since she had gotten trapped in that time twister.  but she didn't know that either.

Every day, Ami Hearth had been living a different life, without all the memories of the days before.  But this was today Ami's birthday, and she wouldn't let a little thing like a time twister get in her way.  If she knew it existed.

But that's not important.  What was important was what Ami did that day.  It was nothing special, she spent the day watching YouTube and doing the things she enjoyed.  At around 5:30, people started to arrive.  Only five people came.  That was alright.

The six of them had lots of fun.  They watched a movie, made stepping stones, and danced late into the night.  But then it was time to sleep, and this Ami would soon be gone forever.

Until Ami woke up.

In the middle of a time twister, memories flooded past her eyes, filling her mind with the different lives she'd experienced since she had gotten stuck in the time twister.  It all came too fast, but she knew what to do anyway.  She willed herself onto stable ground, far away from the time twister.

And time obeyed.

And I should know.  I'm Ami Hearth.
