Hey, who wants

Chatterbox: Inkwell

Hey, who wants

Hey, who wants to hear some random song lyrics?

My friend Julianna, who created Scarlet showed me a page that was covered (and I mean covered -- even the margins!) with Melanie Martinez song lyrics.  So I decided to spout some random songs off the top of my head.

When the days are cold
And the cards all fold
When the saints we see
Are all made of gold

When our dreams all fail
And the ones we hail
Are the worst of all
And the blood's run stale

I want to hide the truth
I want to shelter you
But with the beast inside
There's nowhere we can hide

No matter what we breed
We still are made of greed
This is my kingdom come
This is my kingdom come

You're eyes, they shine so bright
I want to save that light
I can't escape this now
Unless you show me how

I was thinking about writing a story about this one.  What should it be about?  Plot ideas?  Character ideas?

Should I spout more random song lyrics?  If you can guess the song, the next lyrics I type will be your choice.

Ooh! Ooh! It's Demons, by Imagine Dragons! I love that song! <3 Two of my friends did a duet to it for Dance Rotation Honors last year.

If you don't mind, I'd like to post some song lyrics as well, since there are so many that have astoundingly well-crafted lyricism that make me just go WOOOWW as a writer, not just a music listener.

This one, here, is kind of the "theme song" for a novel concept that I have (I probably won't write it for a while, considering I'm still working on TAoSS), which is my first tentative foray into the mystery genre.

The lyrics are so poetic and beautiful and honestly makes me cry. Can anyone guess what song it is? (If you listen to it I'm going to tackle you and babble about it's glory.)

Please include the name of the author/song writer for any lyrics you submit that aren't your own original work.

Gah, sorry. I suppose we can't do the guessing thing, then.

Anyway, it's John My Beloved by Sufjan Stevens.

-----

Such a waste, your beautiful face
Stumbling carpet arise
Go follow your gem, your white feathered friend
Icarus, point to the sun
If history speaks of two baby teeth
I’m painting the hills blue and red
They said beware, Lord hear my prayer
I’ve wasted my throes on your head

So can we be friends, sweetly
Before the mystery ends?
I love you more than the world can contain
In its lonely and ramshackle head
There’s only a shadow of me in a manner of speaking I'm dead

I’m holding my breath

My tongue on your chest
What can be said of my heart?
If history speaks, the kiss on my cheek
Where there remains but a mark
Beloved my John, so I’ll carry on
Counting my cards down to one
And when I am dead, come visit my bed
My fossil is bright in the sun

So can we contend, peacefully
Before my history ends?
Jesus I need you, be near me, come shield me
From fossils that fall on my head
There’s only a shadow of me in a manner of speaking I'm dead

You can just give the composer/writer and still guess the name of the song.

Oh, sorry admins

Song is Demons, By Imagine Dragons.

By the way, I take a lot of inspiration from Imagine Dragons songs because they are so emotional and meaningful that it really tells a story.

Something about a werewolf, or multiple personality disorder could be in action. Maybe the main character wants to protect someone from an oppressing evil, but he can't because of the monster inside him (werewolf, evil personality). Do you see where I'm going here?

I agree that Imagine Dragons songs are a good use of inspiration, especially ones like Bleeding Out, Demons, or Gold.

I also think that Ready, Aim, Fire is a good one as well.

Guess!

Song is by Pentatonix!

It doesn't matter if
Your days are long!
It doesn't matter if
Your night's gone wrong!

Just clap your hands!
*Clap twice*
And stomp your feet!
*Stomp twice*

And sing it,
Wooah,

It doesn't matter if
He let you go!
It doesn't matter if
She hurt you so!

Get up and dance!
*Clap twice*
Just feel that beat!
*Stomp Twice*

And sing it,
Wooah,

I don't know
What you've been doing
But music makes you
Lose control

Sing, sing, sing, sing,
Sing it out
As loud as you can!

Make 'em hear you
From the later Japan!
Don't let 'em
Bring you down!

That's Sing! isn't it?

I also like Shots. Can I post some lyrics? If so, this is a song by David Bowie that I quite like:

Ground Control to Major Tom
Ground Control to Major Tom
Take your protein pills and put your helmet on
Ground Control to Major Tom (ten, nine, eight, seven, six)
Commencing countdown, engines on (five, four, three)
Check ignition and may God's love be with you (two, one, liftoff)
This is Ground Control to Major Tom
You've really made the grade
And the papers want to know whose shirts you wear
Now it's time to leave the capsule if you dare
"This is Major Tom to Ground Control
I'm stepping through the door
And I'm floating in a most peculiar way
And the stars look very different today
For here
Am I sitting in a tin can
Far above the world
Planet Earth is blue
And there's nothing I can do
Though I'm past one hundred thousand miles
I'm feeling very still
And I think my spaceship knows which way to go
Tell my wife I love her very much she knows
Ground Control to Major Tom
Your circuit's dead, there's something wrong
Can you hear me, Major Tom?
Can you hear me, Major Tom?
Can you hear me, Major Tom?
Can you "Here am I floating 'round my tin can
Far above the world
Planet Earth is blue
And there's nothing I can do"

It's Sing!

OMWyrd, I love that song so much.

Just one thing... The lyric is actually "Let them hear you from LA to Japan"

I don't mean to sound snarky or anything, so hopefully that's not what it seems like.

Guess!

Song is by Imagine Dragons!

With our backs to the wall,
Darkness will fall,
We never quite thought
We would lose it all.

Ready, aim, fire,
Ready, aim, fire,

An empire's falling
just one day.
You close your eyes
And the glory fades.

Ready, aim, fire,
Ready, aim, fire away.
Ready, aim, fire,
Ready, aim, fire away.

Off in the distance,
There is resistance
Bubbling up
And festering.

Hey, Mister Motion,
Make me a potion,
Shake it all up
With your mystery.

How come I've never
Seen your face 'round here?
I know every single
Face 'round here.

A man on a mission,
Changing the vision,
I was never
Welcome here.

We don't have the choice
To stay,
We'd rather die
Than do it your way.

With our backs to the wall,
Darkness will fall,
We never quite thought
We would lose it all.

Ready, aim, fire
Ready, aim, fire

An empire's falling
Just one day.
You close your eyes
And the glory fades

Ready, aim, fire,
Ready, aim, fire away.
Ready, aim, fire,
Ready, aim, fire away.
