Brrring! Brrrrrring! The old-fashioned phone fairly jumped off the table with excitement.
"Hold your horses!" A tall, athletic girl with a long blonde ponytail called, gathering the phone and cord up into her hands.
"Yellow?" She asked brightly.
"Tonia? Is that you?" A soft, eerie voice asked.
"Ye-yeah!" Answered the girl, a bit shakily, "Hold on a second." Then her voice grew muffled to the mysterious caller as she turned her mouth away and yelled: "JARREN! GET DOWN HERE!" To some other personage.
"Okay, what was that?" The girl asked sweetly, coming back to the phone.
"There's been a disappearance."
"A..." stuttered Tonia, "disappearance?"
"And there will be more than one if you don't listen, you insolent little girl!" Tonia's mouth snapped shut.
"Now, as I was saying, there has been a disappearance, I won't tell you whom or how or when, but I want you to find the missing agent. I will give you one clue: 'harpshicord.' That is all," continued the voice.
"What!" Squeeked Tonia, "but that's impossible!"
"You will not be doing it alone. I have incorporated the help of some very highly respected detectives. They call themselves...The Chatterboxers. Cybers or See-Bee-ers for short. There are more clues than you think there are. You have 2 months. No more, no less. Goodbye." And the line went dead. Tonia clicked through the caller-ID. The last call it reported had been from her brother, Jarren, who had called her house yesterday evening after school. It was as if the mysterious call had never taken place. But it had.
"J-J-Jarren?" She called shakily, looking around for her big brother.
"Right here," he said, more gently than usual, "I heard everything." Tonia swallowed, then whispered: "You know we can't disobey The Agent." In responce, Jarren nodded seriously.
"I guess we'd better find these folks that call themselves 'The Chatterboxers.' "
"This...this is impossible though! No information. Absolutely none. Jarren..." Tonia moaned.
"Stop whining, Sis, this is a life or death situation," her brother responded, clasping her hand in his. And at that wonderful, bonding moment, what appeared to be a pie slammed against their window. And then, exactly 3/4 of a second later, the doorbell rang. The Chatterboxers had arrived.

Jarren opened the door. Tonia opened the window. A few drops of whipped cream fell off the glass and on to the rose bushes below. Trying to see beyond the dark screen of pie filling and whipped cream, Tonia struggled to make out the scene taking place in her front yard. For a second, she thought she heard an eerie laugh that sounded ominously familiar, but when she looked around and saw nothing except dripping pie filling and cream-covered rose bushes, she decided it must have been the wind. The thing was, there wasn't any wind, but Tonia was to preoccupied to notice. Squinting into the sun, she made out several strange people standing about on her front walkway. She caught a few fragments of sentences. Something like:
"Did you see—?"
"I didn't, that's the—"
"Awful first impression."
"Puck, have you no manners?"
"T'wasn't me!"
"—believe that—" And then she shut the window and decided to join her brother at the front door. Hoping that he hadn't been rude to these esteemed detectives, she hurried across the hall and slipped on the hardwood floor in her pink-toed socks. Smack! She saved herself by falling onto the protruding stairway. Oh bother socks! Bother floors! Bother it all! She thought to herself, scrambling to her feet. When she looked up, she was surprised to see her big brother staring at the un-opened door, peering through the eye-hole!
"Jarren!" She hissed, rushing forward and grabbing the door handle, "don't keep guests waiting! That's rude!" He punched her shoulder, hard, in a brotherly sort of way in answer. Wincing, Tonia swung the door open. And gasped. It wasn't in impolite sort of gasp, but a stunned and surprised gasp. For there, in her very front yard, was a gathering of some of the most respected detectives of all time. And none of them could possibly be much older than Jarren.

File 3
"Hi," said the girl who had rang the doorbell.
"Hi," replied Tonia. She wasn't sure whether she should shake hands or not with a girl who was more or less her own age.
"I can't tell you my real name for security reasons, but you can call me Kestrel," the girl said.
" 'M Tonia. Nice to meet you." Tonia politely studied Kestrel. She could see why this detective had chosen such un unusual agent name, for the girl had aquilline features and sharp eyes, but a warm and friendly smile. Her hair fell in thick, sandy ringlets down her back.
"I'm sorry about the pie," said Kestrel, "No one could see who threw it, it was so fast! But it probably came from Puck's bag of tricks," she confided. At the mention of another agent, Tonia looked around at the 5 other people standing around in her front yard. Two girls were exchanging email addresses (or so Tonia assumed, because they traded pieces of papers), two boys were staring each other down, and another girl was learing mischieviously at everyone from under her sweatshirt hood. She assumed this was Puck.
"Hey guys!" Kestrel called, catching Tonia's glance, "come over hear and meet Tonia and..." she gestured to Jarren.
"Jarren," brother and sister both supplied at the same time. Jarren gave Tonia an I can introduce myself sort of look. All the agents straightened up and walked over, introducing themselves one by one. No one offered to clean up the pie. The two girls' names were Daisy and Rose bud. Daisy had a long, deep brown braid swung over one shoulder and a shy but friendly smile. Rose bud, with short hair, pink cheeks, and a vivacious grin was exactly her opposite, although they appeared to be friends. Next in line were the two boys, who did not seem as friendly towards each other. The first, named Bolton, had slightly curly hair and a casual stance, while the second had brown bangs falling over his face. He looked friendly, but rather awkward. Puck was the next to be introduced. She had and impish grin, dark, messy hair, and dancing brown eyes which caught the light like jewels.
"Where's Brookeira?" Rose bud asked Daisy.
"She got caught in airport security with Joan. Something about swords or daggers maybe," Daisy answered, tossing her braid onto the other shoulder.
"Wait, there are more agents?" Tonia asked, trying not to sound rude.
"Um yes," Kestrel answered, "we're missing more than half."
"Uh..." replied Tonia, "c-come on in! We can get started on the case!" She wasn't so sure about the swords and daggers. Or the pie, for that matter. What would her mother say when she got home? Tonia shivered. She would have liked to tell her mother everything about their involvment in the Owl Eye Agency, but she was sworn to secrecy. Could she really live her life like this? Unrevealed and hidden?
