Hey guys. I'm

Hey guys. I'm not sure if this is the right section of the CB to post this, but it's fine.

Anyways, I've decided that I want to try to write a story. I've been struck by inspiration, so I'm going to take and make it into something. I'm not sure if I want to get it published or not, because that costs money, I've been told. The reason I'm posting it on the CB is because I would like some help in the process of writing the story. I'd like your opinions, ideas, and anything else you are willing to offer to an author who is nothing more than a fledgling. I'm going to think of the process of writing my first book as if I'm learning to fly. Another thing is, I haven't decided what genre to make it yet. Obviously, it would be fiction, but what kind? I have several ideas floating around in my head for the realistic and fantasy genres, but I don't know.

So basically, I made this thread to find out if you guys are willing to read my story and give me any advice/ criticism necessary. I may not end up publishing it, but it would be great if I could make it into an actual book with a cover and everything.

I'll post the first paragraph of the first chapter (that's all I have written so far, but I may end up making it the prologue) after I've recieved a couple of replies.

PS. I'm considering making the title Standing in the Eye of a Hurricane or something those lines. I won't make it official until I finish the book, though.

I'm totally willing to read your story! If you wanted any tips for writing a book (since I just finished a long one), I do have a few tips.

-ALWAYS DRAW A PLOT LINE. Seriously, if you have an idea you want to make into a book, always draw a plot line first. It helps you categorize and put certain events in the order you want, and also will help if you get stuck.

-Begin with the end in mind. When you start your story, think about how you want it to end. This helps if you aren't sure what to write next and if something important will need to happen, and when.

-Don't forget to develop characters, and vice versa. Sometimes it's really hard to remember either the plot or the characters when you're writing, depending on what type of writer you are. You want to have fully-fledged characters and backstories an motives, but you have to keep the plot interesting and moving as well.

I hope this helped you! I am looking forwards to hearing your story.

P.S. When I read the title, the first thing I thought of was In the eye of a hurricane, there is quiet... for just a moment... a yellow sky.

Hey, someone used my old topping name, "TopperHopper"! Whoever it was, please don't.

My new topping name is BLOOM, as I command a thread to BLOOM and rise to the first page with my Flower Power, but topperhopper is mine, too.  I hope this doesn't sound mean or anything. :)

Oh yeah, and Kestrel, I would love to read the book if you want to post it!

I would totally like to read it! Also, there is a site where you can self-publish for free. It's called Pronoun. You can only publish ebooks, I'm afraid (that's what makes it free, so you won't be seeing your book on the shelf). But you get about 80% of the money.

I hate to be a downer, but publishing with a big company is almost impossible when you're a kid (publishers want someone with lots credentials). I've googled it a lot. Plus you get only 20% of the money.

If you don't wanna publish, there are ways to kinda turn it into a book.

Anyhow, genres don't decide a book. The book decided the genre. Just write your idea, let the genre come at the end. There's been more mash-ups than you could imagine.

So what will your story be about? We can offer more ideas when we know what you'll be writing!

Also, I suggest plan a lot. Other people have different methods, but when I get stuck, I've learned that just struggling through works best. You see that one paragraph brightly glowing in your face, but it won't budge. You can't take it anywhere. You'll have to push it. Try different things, press the backspace key a hundred times if needed.

That's just my way, it make be different for some.

Wow. Okay. I honestly didn't really expect anyone to care. Thank you, guys. I really hope to see this through to the end. So, to give you a small idea of my story right now, I'll post the prologue. It's not perfect, and I'll probably go back and change little bits a bunch of times on my own, but here it is:

BEASTYS

Rain Burrham (Kestrel)

Annabel Eastwind (Wolf)

Mikal Arete (Panda)

Lillian Summers (Caracal)

Kimberly Terrene (Arctic Tern)

Cullen Yiley (Coyote)

Jeffory Shallows (Black Bear)

Prologue:

It’s funny how in high school, it’s so easy to rise to the top. All you have to do is  be athletic, be a good person, and be smart. Or at least, on the outside. You would be surprised how many people hide their true colours. How many people lie. When you’re like me, and my ragtag little group of friends, you float. Like a butterfly. Like autumn leaves on the wind, you float. We are all good people. We are all smart, in our own wonderful way. And we are all just a bit quirky, just a touch crazy. But it’s okay, because in middle school, we were kings. We showed the world our different, beautiful, not-so-perfect hearts, and we were kings.

Then, suddenly, we grew up. We left our wonderful world of Goldcrest Middle School, in the small, nondescript town of Cannon Beach, Oregon and let go of our reigns. We tried to catch the rope that was thrown to us when we became part of Tempest High, but we missed. So now, the seven of us, our little misfit group of family, are doing our best in this new, excited, scary world. Me, Annabel , Cullen, Kimberly, Jeffory , Lillian, and Mikal.

Mikal, Lily, Laurence, Kim, Cullen, Annabel, and me. We are the Beastys. In our world, there is no hierarchy, no judgement, no sides. We are the force that stands in a hurricane. We draw strength from our friendship, intelligence from each memory we make, and athleticism from our endless games and banter. Simple as that.

It's not much, I know. I may add on, but then again it is just the prologue. I noticed that I accidentally copied/ pasted my personal notes, which I had at the top of the page, but it's fine. The animals are going to have something to do with this fantasy world that they accidentally transport themselve to (how, I'm not sure yet). I'll post more when I have something!

It's not actually as impossible as everyone says to get a book published. The author of The Outsiders was sixteen when she wrote it and eighteen when it got published.

Advice? Revise a ton. I've written a book and without revisions it would be terrible.
