Chatterbox: Inkwell

Hey guys!!! I'm

Hey guys!!! I'm kind of freaking out right now, because....THERE'S LESS THAN TWENTY DAYS UNTIL THE FINALS FOR MY WRITING COMPETITION, AND I AM ELIGIBLE FOR PLENTY OF AWARDS, BUT I'M KIND OF FREAKED OUT THE PROMPTS WON'T BE GOOD AND MY PEN WILL RUN OUT OF INK AND THAT I WON'T WRITE WELL!!!!!!!AAAAAAAAH!!!!!

Yell

Kit Kat, I suggest you bring an extra new pen (or two) if that's allowed, so you won't have to worry about running out of ink. And I would think whoever prepares the prompts thinks about what to use for a long time to be sure they'll be great ones!

Old Cricket, being old and wise, knows that of which he speaks. First thing, I find that if I'm at, say, a math competition, just knowing that my coach (who happens to be my mom :) ) has extra batteries for my calculator calms me down. Having an extra pencil in my pocket is even better. And second thing, even though some prompts are a pain, those are the ones that are the most fun, after all, because you get to improvise. And they don't use bad prompts if it's important. Sorry if this is all a little muddled - it's about a quarter to six here because I woke up early. :P Do well at your competition!

*Starts screaming again*

*calms down*

I get to miss school for the writing comp. tho.

And the team is going out for ice cream

And the team is fun

and the college where i'll be writing is HUGE!

Calm down! There's really no more advice I can give you, except not to believe in luck (unless it seriously boosts your confidence). But calm down, and remnd yourself that if you're good enough to be eligible, there's no need to fret!

God bless and I hope you win! :)

You'll be fine, and I bet you sweep the competition - from what I've seen, you're a good writer. I find that the less I think about it the better I do. And, the day before the competition, write a timed essay with the worst, hardest prompt you can find. That'll make the one at the competition seem really easy. It works for math, at least. And it builds your self-confidence. I also find that if I have some really strong emotion during the competition it helps. Like anger. No matter what I'm angry at - and I don't have to be angry at anything, really - as long as I have some really strong emotion, I do better. Maybe it's just me, though. Extreme joy works too, but it tends to distract me. Anger helps me focus my thoughts very well. "X plus Y equals.... 14! Take that! Gotcha!" *scowls* Somehow it works.

I doubt even such a good idea could improve my math skills, which are rather abysmal.

What's the date of the thing, Kit Kat? The 22nd?

Two weeks... My brother and I have a joke that if we're in different places when one of us is in a competition, the other one funnels "universe juice" (Kung Fu Panda reference) to them mentally. You'll have my universe juice! Expect the transmissions to start at about seven o'clock in the morning. Laughing

You'll be wonderful! I felt this way when I was in a play for three months this spring (last performance was a few days before you posted this thread). It went great (of course, everyone, even the director, cried at the end because it was all over and my directer couldn't direct anymore because of something with her job), but no one in the cast really had any need to worry or be nervous. I, personally, have never really gotten how people can get "stage fright", because all I do is get so super excited before a play that I practically can't walk.

...So, the point of this muddled post was that you can calm down, because there's no need to be nervous. :):):)
