Chatterbox: Inkwell

Marshmallow Pie

It began

With the spades.

The cards our math teacher held out

On day one.

Sixteen kids so

She had selected sixteen cards.

Four

From each suit.

"Pick a card, any card."

She said dramatically, and each student

Carefully reached out and plucked one.

Hearts at the table by the window,

Diamonds situated by the left wall,

Clubs pushed up against the bulletin board,

Spades snuggled in the back corner.

And somehow

(By some strange happenstance)

The card that drew each of our fingers to it

That we pulled out, slowly, curious

Was a spade. 

So

We four ended up squished in that square table toghether.

Sorry, but I have to say

I thought C_____ was babyish

And that A___was annoying 

And most of all that G____ was

Stuck up.

But it's funny, isn't it,

How opinions can change.

How things can change.

How we chose to be science fair

Project partners.

Foosball tournaments (that I never won)

Countless silly videos 

(Don't mention those again)

Secret codes we can't remember 

Jumping on the trampoline

Until we fell down dizzy,

Teasing about

Sticky ice cream lips

Dancing in the dark 

Laughing to the sky

Trying to make

Marshmallow pie.

This is a poem for my three best friends. All of it is a true story. I may give it to them, then again, I may chicken out, but I hope you guys enjoy it. The names are ____ed out for their privacy. If any of you guys happen to be on CB, (O.o I'd freak out) then let's just take a moment for thar marshmallow pie. RIP and ewwww. We probably shouldn't have put it in the blender, huh? Or added the chocolate. Or the blackberries. Or the maple syrup. Or made it at all.
