I'm writing a fantasy aimed for kids my age and I was wondering if people liked fantasy. I personally love it (which you can probably deduce from my name), so I want your opinion. Do you like fantasy? (Oh, by the way, not all fantasy is faries. I perfer dragons and elves like in Eragon and stuff.)

I like fairies, but also elves and especially mermaids. Sometimes i also like the kind that sing sailors to their deaths... y'know.

I think those evil singing mermaids are called Sirens. I read about them in Greek mythology. They seem a tad creepy...

I think they're a bit different. I don't think Sirens have fish tails.

Emily,

You are both right.  Sirens don't have tails; they have the body of a vulture (then again, that might be harpies instead).  Mermaids, even though they have tails, don't lure saliors to their death with their singing.  Well, not in Greek mythology.  But there aren't mermaids in Greek mythology to begin with.  Are there?  Who comes up with these questions anyway?!?

I'm going to bed.

Sirens look like women from afar and birds up close.                                                                        P.S. Trust me.I know this stuff.

I love fantasy!!!!:):):) I've read both books in the Eragon series, and I love them. I really like reading fantasy novels. I've started to write a fantasy book with gnomes, talking animals, unicorns, and evil sorcerers, but the computer shut down and the whole thing erased. I didn't have another copy of it.:( But now, I'm working on many other books, one including a fantasy series about knights.:) I love to write!!!!:):):)

If you like fantasy, check out Tamora Pierce. Her characters live in very realistic, well-thought-through fantasy lands. I love her.

The books by Tamora Pierce that I read are about her Tortallan girls.  They are all quartets as far as I know.  The first quartet is the Song of the Lioness, containing Alanna: The First Adventure, In the Hand of the Goddess , The Woman Who Rides Like a Man, and Lioness Rampant.  The next quartet is The Immortals quartet (my personal favorite!).  The last that I have read is Protector of the Small.  Hope this helps!
