I WON A

Chatterbox: Inkwell

I WON A

I WON A CONTEST!!!!!!!!

So, let me tell you how this happened.

There was this short-story contest for homeschoolers in my state. The theme was 'Honoring our heritage'. Basically, write a short story set in a historical event of America. I chose to write about the Boston Tea Party.

They give you about a week and a half, which in my opinion, is not enough time to write a story. But I managed to get it written, revised, re-revised, and re-re-revised in time. It was about this boy who participates in the Boston Tea Party. There's more to it, but that's the basic definition. My mom emailed it to them, and that was that. They were supposed to email her 12 days later to say if I had won or not, but the email never came. (Gosh I need to get an email account.) Then yesterday, I checked their website. Right there, in front of my face, it said, "Congratulations to (Not telling) and (Not telling) for winning the 2016 Short Story Contest!" My name was the second Not telling. I basically freaked out. I mean like, I literally freaked out. Because (a) not only did it feel super good to have my writing win a contest, but (b) the winners get published in an online newsletter, and they also get a 25 dollar Amazon gift card! Yay!

(Oops, all throughout this thread I've been spelling 'write' as 'wright' as in 'right'. I'll fix that.)

I'm not boasting or anything, like, "Wooh! Look at me, I'm so great that I won a contest! You should all congratulate me!" Most definitely not. I just wanted to tell you all how happy I am that I ACTUALLY WON A CONTEST!!!!!!

Yay

YAY

YAY

YYYYYYAAAAAAYYYYY!!!!!!

Congratulations, Leafpool! We'd love to see your story, if you can send it to Chatterbox. And I hope you enter our Cricket League contests. That's another great opportunity to be published.

Thanks, Admin and Owlgirl! It's not my best story, (I'm better at writing fantasy) and it's kind of short, but if I can copy/paste it on Saturday onto here. I'm not using a computer right now, and I don't have the file on here. I'm only allowed on the computer on weekends. So you'll have to wait almost a week, sorry.

Nice job, Leafpool! It's really cool that you could win that. And it doesn't sound like you're bragging at all, it's totally understandable for you to be excited about this. Congratulations!

I understand how that feels, winning something really big.  Example: annually, my small town of a little over 3,000 has a Fourth of July parade, and it is divided into two parts: the kiddie parade, and the Old Fashioned Fourth of July parade. (Which is the really big parade.)  They have a judging contest for the kiddie parade where they have three classes; the walkers, the non-motored vehicles, and the motored vehicles, there is a first, second, and third place for each class, and there is a first place for all the classes.  (They judge places by how patriotic the contestants costume is, and by how well they go by the theme.)

When I was 8, the theme was "United We Stand" and I was a Union Soldier from the civil war, but I hadn't thought of a name, so guess what my mom called me: "Union Jack"  You've got to be kidding me.

But anyways, I got first place for the walkers group, but a couple 5 or 6 year old kids who were wearing R,W&B and riding tricycles got first place, because they were 'cute'.

When the Fouth of July edition of the local newspaper came in, (The paper only comes out on thursdays.) guess who was on the front page: me... ME!!!  I was so shocked, the big picture on the front page was of me in my costume.  The title of the newspaper was "Fourth of July a fun day for kids."  I was just thrilled.

So that was my big moment of fame, six years ago.  (Sighs)

Also, for 4-H I have gotten a special award at the State Fair for one of my pictures in two out of three years, there are about forty pictures out of a couple hundered at the State Fair each year that get a special award, and a single contestant may enter three total pictures.

One of the pictures is below:

Yeah, remember the time we dressed up the wagon as an airplane? And that little girl with the dressed up bike won first? *glowers*

Thanks, everyone! Darn, I just remembered, half of it is on my mom's computer and the other half is on the computer that my brother and I share. I suppose, though, I can copy/paste the first part from our computer and then type the rest from the printed-out final draft that I have. I'd rather not just give you the link to the online newsletter, because that would give away my real name and age and I don't want you knowing them...yet.

@Admins, if there's a new story contest soon, maybe I'll enter! I love the Cricket contests.

The next story contest will likely be in September. Look for the theme and rules in the September Cricket and at cricketmagkids.com/contests in September. We'll be happy to hear from you!
