Chatterbox: Inkwell

There's a story my mom used to read to me. But the was before the earthquake separated New York from the rest of the world. That's right, the rest of the world, the government says that everything is normal, and anyone who tries to argue, vanishes with no trace of ever being here, though ever since the earthquake, no phones have worked, no computers, nothing that can work to send communications to anywhere. Anyway the story my mom told me was so fake that it was funny, at least, that's what I used to think. Deep underground is town where all the good are separated from the bad. Only the purest of heart are able to reach this wonderful world. It is cut off from all of the other humans, and no one knows about it--at this point she would wink at me--not the government, not even the president. Mom would always stop there, I would always respond, "Then how do you know about it?" When I was younger, I actually wanted to know, now it's just a habit to ask, most of the time it's sarcasm. But when I really needed to learn how she knew, she was gone. My mom knew that the earthquake was absolutely not normal. She was persistent, then one day about two months ago she disappeared off the face of the earth. I was alone. Mom and Dad were divorced when I was five. Dad moved to Idaho, but I'm fine, it was eleven years ago, I am sixteen, today actually. The downside is Mom was supposed to help me learn how to drive.

I love your story so far! It reminds me a lot of Gone and even Unwind. Anyways, for a character I have:

Name: Talia

Age: 16

Appearance: Straight, slightly beyond shoulder length, naturally midnight black hair; oddly golden eyes that seem to glow; usually wears black, boot-cut jeans; simple t-shirts, particularly blue or black ones; simple tennis shoes; fair skin, making her look like a ghost; wears no makeup; constantly wears a digital watch, which doesn't work after everything went out, but is kept as a relic; and a simple silver cross necklace she keeps tucked under her shirt, a gift from her dead grandmother.

Personality: Talia is a friendly, young-spirited girl who feels alone in the world without her grandmother. She is very smart, skilled at making things without technology, and loves nature and the world around her. Even before the earthquake, Talia never relied on technology, besides her watch. She would roam the forests, climb trees, and often fall asleep in the woods, alone.

Background: Talia's father was murdered when she was three, and her mother died when she was seven due a horrible disease. She was then taken in by her widowed grandmother and raised until age fourteen. The same disease that took her mother away came back again and stole her grandmother's life when she was fourteen. With no other family to turn to, and afraid she had a disease only she was immune to (therefore fearing she would hurt more people), Talia stayed. She continued to live at age fourteen to age sixteen at her deceased grandmother's little house, living off of garden foods and the stream water. When the earthquake hit, the little house was destroyed and Talia was forced to travel the ruins of New York for hope.

Power: Unknowingly, Talia can talk to the dead. Also, once she discovers this ability and trains it to become stronger, she can even raise the dead. But this takes an extremely large amount of energy and has a possibility of killing her due to the power.

IQ: 99 (or 110 if you can allow that)

Other: If this is okay, I would love for Talia to eventually run across Llya and they become best friends. Then maybe she can sort of sacrifice her life to raise Lilya's mother from the dead? Later on. It is just a suggestion, but it might help with the future events.
