You could have some sort of magic Roman armband, or ring, or something. What kind of book is it? Sci fi, fantasy?

If you are writing a fantasy, here are some ideas for characters:

As an enemy, a magical spirit with an evil name (can't think of one right now) that is like a  genie, except it can transport itself to any bottle or jar in the world. The only way to capture it is to lure it completely out of the bottle and then conquer it with magical spells.

The main characters: An archeress who wants to do everything by herself, a young wizard whose spells always seem to fizzle, and a wild hawk that they tame which can speak... but only in Chinese.
