Real Life Snow

Real Life Snow

Real Life Snow Scene.

She sighed as she watched.  The snow scene was so pretty.  The Snow Flakes hadn't even come out yet, but the pas de deux was amazing.  How could the Snow King be scared?  He had been the Nutcracker last year, how could this be harder?  After she had heard some other girls ask him just that question, she knew the answer.  It was the girls.  Even as the Nutcracker, not all his time was spent partnering, but as the Snow King, it was almost his whole part.

The Snow King and Queen twirled together under the lights, and came to a stop in the center of the stage.   After one more spin, the King grabbed the Queen's waist as she jumped.  She went up, up, up, while he shifted his body under her.  As the Queen came down, the King's knees bent to support her weight and keep her from toppling over, but they didn't straighten.  Instead, they kept bending.

Suddenly, the King was sprawled on the floor, his Queen lying with him, carefully shielded from hitting the floor with his own body.  For a moment, no one moved.  The King had fallen in the middle of the scene.  Was the Queen ok?  Then, they were back on their feet, waltzing away as if nothing had happened.  That was the mark of a professional, keep going even when you fall.

At the end of the dance, the King exited off to stage left, where the girl and his directors were waiting for him.  "Are you ok?" They pressed, "What happened?"  "She just came down too hard on my shoulder," he panted, his head in his hands. "My knees buckled and my back went out with them.  I'm ok though."

Oh no. The girl thought.  He's scared enough of this scene without that hanging over his head.  Another realization jolted through her brain.  Oh, Ashlyn!  She has a lift onto a guy's shoulder too doesn't she.  That won't be reassuring.  He won't fall though, Ashlyn's much lighter then the Queen.  I just hope he can get over it......

This is very good writing! Is it personal experience, or is it part of a novel or short story you are writing?

Ok, this stuff really happened during the Saturday Evening and Sunday Matinee shows of the Nutcracker I was in.

The girl stood in the wings watching with her freinds.   As the last soldiers ran off into the increasingly dense fog, the Snow King and Queen ran on stage.  The curtain lifted to reveal the two dancers waiting for Clara and the Nutcracker in their realm of snow.  The pas de daux continued as usual with the King noticibly growing more and more nervous.

Then, it was time.  The Queen spun gracefully on the tips of her pointe shoes, and the King lifted her in the air.  She came down, down, down, onto his shoulder, and stayed there!  The King held her for as long as he could, still coming down a little early, but it was enough.  The rest of the dance was a breeze, the King smiling with relief and joy the whole time.

The dance ended, and the girl looked around to see many of her fellow dancers watching with her.  The were all happy for the King.  The applause began, and the dancers backstage joined in, clapping till their hands hurt and the noise was twice as loud.

Thanks Joss!  Once again, this stuff really happened this weekend during my Nutcracker, I just didn't post the King and Queen's names cause the King is pretty embarrassed, this is the first time that he's actually fallen with a girl.  Or at all.  Period.
