The brook bubbles merrily, splashing playfully as it rolls along. The sun shines through the canopy of trees, lighting up the woods with its glow.
Slowly, a female face appears in the water. It's blue, like the brook it's in, but as her blue fingers rise up to the surface, they slowly turn skincolor.
The girl's face bursts through the surface, laughing like the brook she's in. She's a brook! She's a girl!
She's a naiad!
Her arms hoist her up onto the bank of the little creek, laughing all the while.
She kicks her still-blue legs, shaking water from them. As the water comes off, so does the blue color.
Her hair turns to blond and her eyes to green and she stands up.
She opens her mouth. The words that come out are in a strange tongue, definitely not English. The language sounds happy and free, resembling the sounds of the brook she came from.

She continues laughing while walking around, scaring away the deer and making wet footprints where she walks.
Suddenly, she hears something. A human is coming! She tilts her head back. Her long, flowy blond hair gradually turns to blue as it st-r-e-e-e-tches out, longer and longer, transforming back into water as her head is pulled with it. In a graceful backwards dive, she back-handsprings back into the bubbling brook.
But no girl's head hits the stream.
Before it touches, her head melts back into water, joining the creek with a splash! Same with her shoulders, chest, torso, everything.
The naiad changes back to her true form.
A brook.
A huge pocket of water splashes into the creek, where the girl once was.
Not even a lock of the girl's hair floats in the stream as evidence when the human steps out from behind the trees.
However, if you listen closely, you can almost hear her giggling. What a near miss!
And despite how hard you look, you will never find the girl. Once in a while, you might swear to see a hand, reaching upwards, but only for a moment. In its place will be nothing but water.

Mei Xue strode silently through the night, ghostlike and silent, clad in black. The guard at the gate didn't notice as she fired a tranquilizer into his back.
Mei quickly slipped through the gate and into the vault. She switched on her infrared goggles. Tripwires crisscrossed the hallway like spiderwebs. Mei grinned.
She lunged through the first two, ducking under a third and leaping over the fourth and fifth. This was no operation to her, but a dance; her body twisting and turning in time to a soundless tune.
She reached the vault door on the other end and input the code, ducking inside and gently removing the ArcStone. She heard a shout and groaned.
So much for silence.
The city of Fencar rocked with the beat of an explosion, and Mei ran from the vault with the country's crown jewel clutched between her hands. And she was grinning.
