Chatterbox: Inkwell
Shoelaces
There was a girl,
this girl,
who kept shoelaces in her pockets.
Walking through
the neighborhood,
there was a girl,
this girl,
who would tie shoelaces
on the things that
mattered most to her.
There was a shoelace
on her mailbox,
where she would wait each morning
for a boy to deliver
the newspaper.
There was a shoelace
on the bakery window,
where she would spend her days
mysteriously conversing
with the costumers.
There was a shoelace on the tree,
where she would spend her nights
looking down on the city lights
from up in its spindly branches.
And then one day
there was a girl,
this girl,
who tied a shoelace
on me.
