There are a lot of RPs on the Chatterbox about a post-apocalyptic world, usually caused by war. But what if the apocalypse was caused by natural means? Wikipedia defines Cataclysm as "any catastrophic geological phenomenon," and that's what this RP could be about. A group of people trying to survive after a natural disaster kills most of the earth.
A few options for this disaster could be:
Tsunami
Super volcano
Massive earthquake

How about a MAGNETIC STORM? These are caused by solar flares and they knock out electricity and technology and stuff. Factories and sewege and stuff will get super messed up.Every few ten thousand years, the magnetic poles switch, and during that time the earth is vulnerable to one. We are actually overdue for the poles to switch, (Which we don't really notice) so it could happen. Dun Dun Duun.
I don't really understand it myself. So... research? It should take place in NYC (more destruction)

OK, I've come up with a plot that uses all our ideas.
The year is 2237. Everything on earth seems normal, until BAM! A super rare event occurs! A magnetic storm switches earth's poles, knocking out worldwide power. In the chaos of the powerless earth, nobody notices a second rare happening, worldwide earthquakes, until it is too late. Earth's tectonic plates shift, causing the continents to ram into each other, creating one large landmass. Many people die from the collision. At the seams of where the continents collided, mountains and volcanoes form. Our characters are from different cities around the world, and journey inland to find habitable land. Eventually, they meet up with each other in New York City and decide to make a group. The power is still out from the magnetic storm, so there is no way of communication. Also, there is a large volcano range that formed near New York City during the tectonic plate shift, so the city is bombarded routinely by ash storms.
And if that wasn't enough, there may be rival groups nearby fighting for what little resources there are left.

Age: 13
Appearance: Short raven-black hair, violet eyes, pale skin, black Black Widow jumpsuit.
Personality: Caring but a little bit sarcastic and/or blunt. Puts her duty first.
Talents: Hand-to-hand combat, knife throwing, and runs REALLY fast. Also, her jumpsuit has footpads that absorb impact and her secret weapon...
City of Origin: Las Vegas, Nevada (U.S.A., obviously).
Other: Is Cat's twin sister.
Cat
Appearance: Exactly like Raven.
Personality: Exactly like Raven.
Talents: This is where it gets interesting. Instead of hand to hand and knife throwing, Cat fences and does archery. But the jumpsuit features the same things.
City of Origin: Actually Las Vegas, but right now she's in Tokyo, Japan on a mission that went scrapped at the beginning of the story.
Other: Is Raven's twin sister.
Also, I think you got a big confused about the magnetic storm. Poles don't switch BECAUSE of the magnetic storm, it's just that Terra is VULNERABLE TO a magnetic storm when the poles switch.

Shades
Age: 16
Appearance: Blackish hair, blue eyes. Green tanktop, black jeans. combat boots. A belt around her waist, with a gun tied to it. A stick with long the sharpest of the sharpest metal attached to it is slung around her back.
Personality: Protective, harsh, a loner. Hates pretty much everyone. Sarcastic, but if you really, really, get friends with her, she will be kinda nice. Kinda.
Talents: Fist fighting, and gun usage. Also good with using her stick thing. Also good at making jokes
Other: Calls her stick thing a, "Sharick" (Shar-ICK)

Age: 15
Appearance: long brown hair that she usally has in a braid or two. Long legs, making her quite tall. She carries a wrench and screwdriver in her belt. Green eyes, freckles.
Personality: Bubbly and fun. But quite serious when she need to be. Know how to cheer people up.
Talents: She is a mechanic. She is very swift and can really damage things with her wrench. She is a good singer and gymnast.
City of Origin: Austin, Texas

@Somebody: Whoops! Sorry for the misunderstanding.
We can start when, counting my following character, there are five. But there really is no limit, as long as we keep it under control.
Name: Thomas Greene
Age: 16
Appearance: Untidy black hair, large nose, blue eyes, and a dusting of freckles.
Personality: Book smart. He has a lot of obscure information and nowhere to use it. Kind of socially awkward.
Talents: He is useful when you least expect it. Enough said.
City of Origin: Sydney, Australia
Some backstory:
Thomas attended a boarding school because his parents did not feel committed enough to raise him. He called it a "bore-ding" school, and escaped multiple times, one time nearly making it to the Australian outback before he was found. So, obviously, he knows how to take care of himself. On the day of the deadly magnetic storm/global earthquake combo, he had just escaped the school for the eleventh time. New Zealand slammed into Australia's southeast coast, killing his family and everyone in the school, but Thomas had traveled inland enough that he survived with nothing worse than a sprained ankle.
