Inter-dimensional Travel RP
We live in a world where there are many other dimensions- and many people who can travel throughout them. These people are called Switchers, and though they are not rare, there are also many people who do not have the talent, causing much discrimination.
The wealthy are known to have 'pet switchers'- they are a curiosity. They are often employed to go to other dimensions and bring back Quii, a mineral more valuable than silver, gold, platinum, or any gem, and one that is only found in a few worlds.
Switching is an unruly practice, because you never know where you will end up, not to mention the fact that dimensions don't even have names.
Other dimensions are dangerous. You never know what is lurking in the shadows- there are life forms
in a few of them, as well as outlaw Switchers who have been forced to live in exile. Every dimension (nicknamed Vortexes, quite inaccurately) is different, many defy every law of nature; some worlds are made entirely of music, while others have thousands of people that look just like you running around.
The world that this RP is set in is a semi-post-apocalyptic one, where there are very strong class distinctions and a brutal law system.
Have fun. XP
My character;
Name; Lark Evren
Age; 17
Appearance; short black hair, violet eyes, scar on her cheek, tall, wears long brown leather jacket and gloves, always carries a weapon.
Personality; cold. Business-like. Rude, and blunt.
(March 2, 2015 - 3:13 pm)
Cool. But question: is your charrie a Switcher?
Name: Faranha Crolanda
Age: young tweens, but looks much, much older
Appearance: black and white striped hair, hazel eyes. Very tall and (in appearance) mature.
Personality: she's light-hearted, but she does have something that she gets furious about (see below).
Other: Alias, would it be OK if there's some kind of "anti-discrimination fight" going on? If so, then she's against people who treat Switchers like they're not human (are we humans?). Also, the reason she looks like she's an adult was because she was captured when she was young as a science tester.
(March 2, 2015 - 4:00 pm)
Yes indeed- we are humans; born with the ability, and yes; that anti-discrimination fight is a good idea!
Also, sorry- my character is a switcher. =)
P.S. Tofu says txok. Texas okay?
(March 2, 2015 - 5:16 pm)
IDEA IDEA IDEA!!!! (if it's OK with Alias)
The reason Faranha was a science test is because she's from one of the other dimensions! And she doesn't know it. So she has this weird levitiating power (that she doesn't know how to use yet).
(March 5, 2015 - 4:17 pm)
That's an awesome idea! (And yeah, totally okay with me) =)
(March 5, 2015 - 6:00 pm)
Name: Whisper Riverfield
Personality: Mysterious, wise, smart
Appearance: Always hooded, but has greenish blue eyes and auburn hair. Carries a dagger a lot.
She's an outlaw switcher, hiding as a pet switcher. Fortunately, all pet switchers are required to wear white hoods (okay, Ali?) so she can hide easily.
(March 2, 2015 - 6:55 pm)
Name: Tommy 'Tomcat' Errel
Age: 14
Personality: He's got a good sense of humor. He's wild, and doesn't fear much of anything. He isn't a switcher.
Other: Tommy has a strange power that he can't seem to control very well. He isn't a switcher, he has some other strange...mystical, even...power.
Appearance: Short, black hair. Usually wears his favorite black jacket with a silver dragon on the front. he also wears jeans. He carries a combat knife inside his jacket.
(March 2, 2015 - 10:02 pm)
Name: Princess Aspera Padmar of Tillaque
Age: 14
Appearance: Long brown hair, always up in one extravagant style or another; brown eyes; somewhat tall; flawless skin. It has been rumored that she never wears the same outfit twice; while this is untrue, she has so many that it would be hard to tell unless you lived with her. With her tastes for the showy and exotic, she always looks the part of a Princess, especially when making a public appearance.
Personality: Calm, cool, and collected 100% of the time. She has been brought up to be very cold and impersonal, and to stay away from close relationships with those below her station (which is almost everybody). Tends to look down upon the poorer masses, not because of any innate meanness, but because it's the only way she knows. She has led a sheltered but restricted life in the palace, where nearly everything is done for her but she is being taught how to do things herself.
I thought that, since Whisper is posing as a pet switcher, there had to be someone to "own" her. (And I would guess from Whisper's character description that Princess Aspera is in for a surprise...)
(March 3, 2015 - 6:31 pm)
Starting! This is too cool to die!
The Princess whistles for me. I rush to slip my hood over my face and scrape in, looking "properly respectful." She smiles a practiced smile. When I come in, she always tries to make me like her. Of course I pretend to. But underneath that saccharine smile lies a cold dictator. I bow, although I scowl under my hood.
"Whisper, we're receiving a visitor. Stand at guard."

Faranha~
"Hello, Princess Aspera," I say as I walk into the hall.
"How do you do," she says.
I carefully glance around the hall. In a corner I see the person I'm looking for: Whisper Riverfield, Switcher. I make a few code gestures at her, and she nods curtly.
The code was, East window. 12 o'clock tonight. Report appointment.

~Aspera~
The herald at the door announces Faranha Crolanda, a scientific guild delegate from one of the few well-known dimensions, Fierka 3. I remember from the report Grand Vizier Chorstane gave me that she has business with the Domain involving thliar leaf trade, and a request for new research by Domain scientists. Faranha sketches a quick duty curtsy as she enters the throne room. I would have preferred that she did proper obeisance and addressed me as "Your Highness" instead of just "Princess Aspera," but this talk is somewhat crucial. Many useful medicines are derivatives of thliar leaves, and with the chirallosis outbreak in the Southmark, I would do well to humor her and let the discourtesy slide.
As we talk, negotiate, and begin to come to an agreement, I notice that she makes a few odd little gestures with her hands and face. They look like nervous tics to me...almost. I have been trained to pay attention to the body language and demeanor of anyone I come in contact with, and something about the flicks and flutters seems just a little bit off. I push such thoughts aside to concentrate on the discussion. The deal is made: We pay a little bit more for the thliar leaves, and have some scientists investigate new ways to use them, with the results made available to the scientific guild Faranha represents. In return, thliar leaves are reclassified as Class B Interdimensional Controlled Goods, which means that Fierka 3 must meet higher standards for the processing, shipping, and trade of the leaves.
My suspicions deepen as Faranha curtsies again (correctly this time) and turns to leave: She locks eyes with my switcher, Whisper, who has raised her head during a court function without express permission. I tuck a note away in my mental list of things to do: scold Whisper for the slight misconduct. But extremely mild insubordination is the least of my worries. I'm fairly sure now that Faranha is somehow in contact with Whisper. I make another mental note to instruct my domestic servants, as well as Whisper's maid, to watch her movements and report unusual activity. Something is going on here, and I want to get to the bottom of it.
**********
Random dimensional idea for where Faranha comes from (if okay with St.Owl): Fierka 3 is one of the most hospitable of the 6 Fierka dimensions. Fierka 1 is a frozen wasteland, with daylight only in the peak of summer for a couple hours a day, while Fierka 6 is sweltering desert with night in similar short supply. Fierka 3 and 4 are temperate/subtropical forest, Fierka 2 is snowy taiga, and Fierka 5 has patches of savanna and rainforest. Fierka 2, 3, 4, and 5 have been extensively explored, but 1 and 6 have seen only a few expeditions.

I forgot to say, Lark is a bounty-hunter-type-thing, she goes into other dimensions and hunts renegade Switchers.
~Lark~
"Get back here, punk!" I call, struggling my way through a large yellow cloud that smells like wet dog, "You've got a bounty of three bars of Quii on your head; now that makes my curious. Plus, I could use that three bars of Quii."
I break free of the cloud, coughing and spluttering, to find myself in some sort of swamp. Five minutes ago, the terrain was a woodland; this is what you get when you visit other dimensions. All common sense flies out the window. "Great," I mutter, and take look around. The trees are tall and sickly looking; each one leaning on it's neighbor. Vines clog the spaces in-between where the sky should be, and strange birds call in loud, startling keens. Mushrooms of red, blue and grey dot the patches of ground, while foul muck gurgles and makes weird splurt sounds in the places in between. Spooky.
I take a step, on what I judge to be safe ground. Then I slowly take another. The next turns out to be only moss floating, and I'm rewarded by a wet boot and a ruined outfit. I have to be careful. If I take another wrong step, and the water's deep enough, I could be drown, not to mention and creatures lurking the water.
This soggy terrain has one advantage; the guy I'm chasing can't move fast, either. It all depends on if I can make up the ground he's gained since the chase began.
I take another step, and land on what used to be ground, but it's only a shell and it crumbles beneath me, sending me head-first into the slime. I scramble up, cursing, and make a reckless decision. I start running, heedlessly, through the swamp.
Of course it's not really running. Nearly every step I take results in wet, but I'm moving faster, and I'm soon within throwing distance of my prize. It's then that we hit a dead end. The brambles and vines are so thick here that it's nearly impossible to exit, except, of course, back from where we came. The way that I am so fabulously blocking, hands on hips, muck-splattered face grinning.
I remove my small silver throwing dagger from it's holster at my wrist, and take aim. The dagger pins the renegade Switcher to a tree by the sleeve, another dagger pins his other arm, which is holding a backpack.
I walk slowly over to him.
"P-please, m-miss, I didn't-"
"Oh, I don't care what you did," I say, "I just care that I get my reward. You're coming with me."
"Wait. If you let me go, I'll give you this-" He drops the backpack on the ground, and kicks it towards me. I pick it up, still looking at him, and undo the zipper. I peek inside. It's contents are wrapped in black fabric, but once I shift the cloth, I see . . .
At least twenty bars of Quii. Now I see why I was able to catch him so easily. Poor guy must've been weighed down something awful.
I chuckle. "Now I understand why you've got a reward of three bars. Ha! It's a pittance compared to what you stole." I zip up the backpack again, and throw it's strap on my shoulder. "Deal."
I Switch back to my home dimension, leaving him pinned in the swamp. He'll get free. Eventually.

Tommy~
Tom walked down the run down streets of Joka, a town in the middle of Fierka 1. A good many people lived there, though it wasn't as populated as Fierkas 2 and 3. There where old looking houses on either side of him. He turned down an alley. His favorite restaurant was down here. Just then, there were three cloaked people standing next to him! One of them tried to grab him but Tom blocked his hand and punched the person down. The other two pulled out handguns.
"What do you want with me, switchers?" Asked Tom through gritted teeth.
One of the spoke. "It's not what we want, it's what our boss wants. Now come here." The figure who'd spoken reached over and grabbed Tom. He felt the strange sensation of demensional travel and then he was standing in a well furnished room. It had gold tapestries hanging from windows that overlooked a beautiful garden. A girl was standing in the middle of the room. hands placed expectantly behind her back expectantly.
"Ah, good work Whisper. I see you brought the subject in one piece, jut like I commanded. The head switcher who seemed to be the spokesman bowed low to the floor.
"Yes, princess."
Tom smiled darkly. "Hello princess."
"Hello Tomcat. It's good to see you again."

Faranha~
I stand below the East Window, tapping my foot and checking my watch. She's late.
At last, I see Whisper swing down the tower to me.
"What took you so long?" I hiss. "You know how important this is!"
"Sorry," she replies. "The Princess was suspectful. You should really make your code less distinct."
"Hey, I'm new to the job," I snap. "So, report."
"Right. First off, we have about three minutes, there are kitchen ladies on my tail."
I stifle a laugh.
"Second, the King is planning an attack on the Main Church in two days."
"The Main Church? Are you sure?"
The Main Church is the main switcher rights meeting place.
"How did he find out?" I ask.
"I'll tell you later, you only have tonight to let everyone know!" she says.
"That's it?" I ask.
"Yes."
Whisper turns to go.
"Wait."
"What?" she asks, turning.
"Are you sure you don't want to come with me? You could, you know. You could escape all this."
______
Brookeria, I don't know how Whisper would answer!

I know it's not in Aspera's style to write short posts, but this is gonna have to be quick.
~Aspera~
For perhaps the first time in three or four years, I am positively furious with my father.
And I'm showing it, too, just to make a point. My hair is beginning to come out of its Kriassi double crescent left over from court. I am red in the face, gesticulating wildly, and shouting at him at the top of my lungs. Most unattractive for a Princess, I know, but I just am too mad right now to care. "FATHER!!!" I scream. "Of all the cruel, arrogant, unstrategic, undiplomatic things to do!! We need the Switchers! We need them! And you think this is going to keep them on our side? Going and destroying their civil rights meetinghouse, because they're supposedly getting rebellious?! They can just jump away, to Erian or Vanjjal or someplace, and all you're going to prove is that you're a pompous old tyrant who wants nothing more than to oppress them, just because they're different. Different, Father. Remember the motto of the Domain? Diuersa in Aequalitate? "In Diversity, Equality"? I didn't think so. The Switchers are our allies, Father, and this is how you treat our allies?!?!"

Koda says fdev. Deviation? Is she supporting the Switchers?
